As I mentioned in a previous post. I too was a child of the night. This video shows a PG version of that life. I saw children of 4 and 5 raped in alleys as people passed by, no there was nothing i could do as i was barely a child myself. I lived in dumpste, eating off societies waste. Iwas just a face in the shadows. I am writing a book on my experiences and I hope someday that no other child will ever be a Child of the night. They aren't always runaways. some like myself were throwaways.
That video is about some serious ,serious rage. And its spreading as the middle of the pyramid is forced to spread their cheeks wider and wider.BEWARE.
@Anakha Never said I was *chuckles*. Ive done what I could too...including buying the kids fat slice when I was in berkeley so *I* knew they ate that day....could only do it for about 5-10 of them every other day...but I did what I could. What was sad is for several of them the streets were safer than their home life and I knew what that was like.
Back in '98 we (kids) got adults to call in an order (couldn't be motel or pay phone as they'd know and refuse) for several pizzas. When the order wasn't picked up they'd throw them out (maybe keeping 1 or 2 for themselves, so it's important to have a big order) in the back dumpster still warm in their boxes. We had to share with the adult who claimed the dumpster but we still ate good with leftovers for later. Don't know if that trick still works today but worth a try.
For those who made it off the street...never forget where you were...and when you can help the kids that are still out there when you can. I can tell you from personal experience when you make friends out there and then they are gone...you never know if its a good ending or a bad one...but inside you always hope
I was one of these children of the night abandoned by my parents at 15 at a gas station in Utah. With nothing but a bag of clothes. I never sold my body but came close to selling my soul. People look at you and toss you change only to ease their conscience not to help. I walked for six months one time with no shoes on. Did anyone care. NOPE. Hold your children close and give them all the love you can.
This is one of the most beautiful rock songs I've ever heard, yet it's so gut-wrenching! The video is just heartbreaking, and it's a crying shame that our country has so little compassion for those who need help the most, while the filthy rich get richer every minute! Sad! But the song and video do show that there is a glimmer of hope still out there. Let's all hope!
@YaoiHuntressEarth - Song that bring tears to my eyes.... I have a few - I once managed to make a compilation album of my own from songs that made me cry. It had 21 songs, nearly all Country Music (both American and Australian Artists - Mostly male).
"Children of the Night" organization is awesome and more people should consider helping children all over the world who go thru this; instead of being so selfish and only caring for ourselves and/or our own families.
I fell in love with my husband to this song; 18 years ago. This was his life as a child and no one should ever be so lonely, so I have loved him unconditionally ever since and always will!
i was a child of the night i was a throwaway child my parents abandoned me i wasNOT a prostitute or addict i survived by doing odd jobs in convenience stores like sweeping floors for food. I was 15 and had other children younger than me that i looked after who were abandoned or left or ran away. DONOT JUDGE UNTIL YOU HAVE WALKED IN OUR SHOES
The saddest thing is this song came out over 20+ years ago, yet tonight there are still far too many "children of the night" caught up in a world of drugs, prostitution, gangs, and utter hopelessness. Yet America sends billions of dollars in "foreign aid" overseas yearly to countries that will stab us in the back at the first chance.
As a child that was thrown away, one who knows the sight of his blood upon the floor and the sound of his bones breaking, this is a very powerful song. In my youth I was at a point where I was ready to give it up, I already had it planned. I heard this song and it gave me hope, it gave me the strength to go on. Twenty years later, I am still here and now I work in crisis response and counseling.
@yoseph57651 This song also reminds me of my childhood. . I was not a throwaway or runaway; although I tried. I was sexually abused and now as a 40 year old woman I share the story that I spent so many years hiding. Some of my blogs and poetry have been fowarded by my readers, to others who suffered abuse and are attemping to handle it.
Counseling could use more people like you who understand because they have been there. God bless
I don't believe it's just about runaways. It's about -and for- any kid on the street-whether they ran way, HAD to run away, were thrown away, or just fell through the cracks in the "system". It doesn't matter-they are all in the same boat! Then, now; and it's sinking. This song can still make people aware of this problem and maybe move us to do something about it. He could always do a song right!
@PippyT1 - The song was written for the Children of the Night charity. What Firebirrd85 said is right. CotN received a portion of the proceeds from this song.
@Kezzabou Thanks for your reply. I know the song was done for a special group and am very glad there were (and are) people who are in a position to help (that is-get the word out in a way that will make others take heed).I just personally think it is for all children, everywhere, that must face life like this. Has always been one of my favorite songs; by a very talented artist.
lord i know im bound for heaven for ive done my time in hell. thanks for posting this song. to all the childre of the night listen to the lyrics. THOUGH THEY MAY HAVE SCRATCHED THE SURFICE, THEY CANT TOUCH WHATS INSIDE, We live on and you are not alone,XX
Actually this song came out in the early 90's @Hecjosmen since it was released by the Summer of 1990 when it was released on a single audio cassette. This song is so beautiful & almost enough to bring tears to my eyes since its so touching & I suspect that this song by Richard Marx is pertaining to his life as a child too.
Marx wrote this inspired by the "Children of the Night" organization in Los Angeles. Dr. Lois Wyle and the young runaways she worked with told their own stories, which Marx includes. The "children" (young men and women) are also the voices in the chorus at the song's end.
@ToddSurfsLBCA I think that is so beautiful that Richard Marx and Dr. Lois Wyle made a difference in their lives. They had a chance of something normal in their lives, people who care. We all need to care and not allow this. Lets stand up for them, because they can't, and they depend on us.
I'd like to dedicate this song to the disappeared women on Vancoiver's Downtown Eastside and the murder victims of Robert William Pickton. He was found guilty of second degree murder in the deaths of six women. 20 other charges of first-degree murder against women were stayed. Many of the women were prostitutes from the Downtown Eastside, known as Canada'[a poorest postal code. No bodies were found intact, so hundreds of experts sifted thru the soil on Pickton's farm looking for scraps of DNA.
It took 14 years to catch the murderer, partly because the police were reluctant to initiate a search for prostitutes. The family and friends often had to fight with the police to find their loved ones. I'd like to dedicate this song to those friends and family who must deal with their loss and memories of trial evidence, as well as the murdered and missing women and those still suffering on the Downtown Eastside.
I'm sorry about this being a reply. I'm can't figure out how to post.
alexbrookecarrington God Bless You!!! We need the world to take notice of the CHILDREN. They are innocent, defenseless, and need us. They are our future. Lets take care of them....The Children Because WE Can
How sad and yet so true in every society. I had been priviledged to have travelled etensively since childhood and I had witnessed most of these scenarios. I thank the Alimighty for all that I am and that I have. I can only wish for all these souls to be given a fair share and a better chance. Instead of working for the corporate world I had chosen to work in the healthcare / social services for human causes. Peace, love, serenity and a bit of prosperity to the world.
