Guys, I understand the Perlman Vs. Vengerov 'Absolutely EXACT' debate. I ADORE Perlman but Vengerov's my favourite because he IS a lil' goblin during this. I don't need them to enjoy, but the faces crack me up. It's infectious, which is part of good music. I'd be no good in a live audience because I tend to suffer Awesome Overload & start laughing out loud. He's good. He knows it. Just opinions, but M.V.'s decidedly cheeky interpretation of a number of show-pieces make me smile widest.
I couldnt help but laugh at the faces he was making but so far i love the music. It's atcually natural for violinist to make faces like that but i also did that too at my concerts, it just happens when you get into the music thats all. :D
Ive been playing violin for 8 years and seriously, if you want to play such a masterpiece or any other and you want to shock your public, music has to be transferred from the very deep of your heart passing from your brain directly to your arms and then to your fingertips.
Those feelings are the explanation to all the faces hi puts. He is not fool.
I find it a bit sad that so many people who claim to love music seem to want to try so hard to find some ridiculous fault that nobody cares about, rather than just enjoying the music.
oh come on already, I love his attitude towards music, it isn't like he is making faces on purpose, like Lang Lang for instance, who looks like he is impaled to his chair! Vengerov really sees into music, and if he expresses himself through facial muscles let him make faces. just don't let him stop playing.
I'm sorry, but I cannot take him seriously. I've watched this video 4 or 5 times and I still haven't been able to accurately evaluate his playing because of how distracting his mannerisms are. I don't care how good you are, there's a certain point where you just look a little TOO silly.
That's one of the problems in my opinion. I would like to see a world where it is easy to access classical music without being judged or automatically condemned as pretentious or elitist. Granted, the faces can be quite annoying, but I think there needs to be a bridge for the "animals" to cross so as they can access the talents of perlman and other fantastic musicians, and Maxim provides an apt bridge in my opinion. Besides, it also gives us musians more work!! haha.
I'd have to agree with Sviolinist. The face expressions were the first thing I noticed. I love the music, but over exaggerated body movements or facial expressions make me frown. Great music, however. ^^
I'm going to be one of those people that says he looks like a fool with all those faces. I love Alfred Brendel and he has a similar sort of problem. It's very distracting. I shouldn't have to close my eyes so I can hear beautiful musix. Good job Verngerov, you're the man.. but stop it with the faces damnit.
I think it's really good. I wish he had played the full version. Personally, the Perlman version is much better though. He is just perfect - and he doesn't do funny faces while playing! This guy is still good though.
Pls dun insult some pro violinist(world's top). He's a proffesional and so pls stop making tis kind of comments.I think he's really very good.99.9% good to me,like excellent!!!
AWHHHhhhh i hate show of violinists even if they play good they look like making the piece look ridiculous LACK EMOTIONS. The piece meant to be serious and breath taking you make it look Ridiculous stop making those dumb asss facial expression it sux really
I don't think it's necessarily the worst performance of this piece, but it's not that good! =)(Sorry, I know a bunch of people will kill me for that, but I'm not saying he's bad - I think he's amazing!)

You should try some 'meditation' to develop your compassion techniques, the poor guy is 'hated' just because he likes playing music?
"I don't care if he is considered one of the best , he isn't bad of course but for certain isn't not good enough for my ears."
oh yeah, and needless to say, you are so much of a great guy that you can talk so highly about you're ears?!? haha dood, suit yourself. ok to say that you prefer other guy, now to place you over him and to say you're better... you can get lost.
I have heard Maxim Vengerov in other performances too. he is overated. He shows off off much and sometimes bounces too much . He tries to show to everyone he really has it but there he loses it. He destroyes the tempo butchers the notes or scratches too much. I don't care if he is considered one of the best , he isn't bad of course but for certain isn't not good enough for my ears.
I must say I prefer the Itzhak Perlman version.. he seems to play it in a much more relaxed and natural fashion. Having said that, it's pretty difficult stuff and it was definitely well played!

Not so good ; technically it's ok (but he's moving too many IMO), but, well I don't really know how to express that, but there is no... elegance.
The way he plays it is agressive and the result is not excellent.
