  • what is simple and pure is always adorable. Hayley got second place for a purpose, everybody knows she got the first place anyway. i like the irish accent :)

  • Haley. Please sing this as an adult. I would just bet. It would be a masterpiece

  • And 17 years later she is doing her own concerts right through NZ to sell out crowds. I saw her this week - fantastic and such a lovely down to earth young lady.

  • is westerra a maori name or irish

  • @TheHirider its not Maori...

  • It's all there, even when Hayley was just 7! Perfect pitch, legato like a laser, power to fly to the moon. Since, Hayley has grown into a wonderful young woman with astonishing talent - and she keeps growing still. Way to go, Hayley, you are a blessing and an inspiration to the world.

  • good job hayley :) the lyrics fit you perfectly >.<

  • Who got first?

  • Good girl .

  • This is so cute and such beutiful singing it is sad that the people are talking while she performs

  • they never knew that that girl will be an international sensation

  • She's in first place now...

  • that is so rude why do they keep talking

  • sweeeeet

  • How very precious.

  • Very cute.... but my oh my hard to imagine this little girl is now one of the hottest Classical Crossover Artist on the Planet! ....I just can't believe that at over 20yrs old and so gorgeous and sexy she was ever this little girl and to be so beautiful with such a fabulous voice is even more hard to imagine! :D .....I imagine she has to still beat the boys off with big stick. lol.... but being my young age, I'd still be trying at least!!!

  • SO SWEET

  • What I wonder is, who won first place, and what is that person doing now?

  • @Kairuka exactly what I was wondering. I doubt we'll ever find out.

  • CEEBIE13 HOW DID YOU GET THIS? ARE YOU RELATED? bECAUSE I LOVE HER BUT YEAH JUST INTRESTED IN HOW YOU GOT THIS?

  • Who wouldve thunk it!

  • Even at such a young age you can tell her voice will grow into a amazing talent!

  • i bet that teacher fels well bad putting her 2nd now hes seen what shes done haha

  • @pcollinsnz It was a container on the back of a truck set up in the school ground for a stage. This was just the local primary school fair and fundraiser.

  • that is very cute, i love her kiwi accent coming through when she says ben and it sounds like "bean"! my mum has a strong kiwi accent and it reminded me of when she would tell me to go to "bead" LOL!!

  • @stoneytheclown My names Ben and I have the same problem. As a NZer living in Australia people think I'm saying 'Bean' when I'm introducing myself. lol Btw, Haley was pitch perfect - even at 7years old.

  • yay there goes our hayley my daughters cousins

  • !!! Your daughters cousin? I LOVE Hayley, her voice has changed now =)

  • so cute

  • I wonder what the first place winner is doing now? Hayley is the best!!

  • How cute!

  • Just for a change of pace from people brought here by Susan Boyle, I was brought to this clip by Connie Talbot. Hadn't actually heard of Haley before; I know comparisons are futile given the subjective nature of this sort of thing but I really do think Connie is a better singer at seven than Haley when she was seven though I admit Haley is not singing under ideal conditions here.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger

    spam alert >_>

  • she sing so differently from now!!!!!!

  • thats good for a wayne :)

I recon it is her her

  • Of course it's her. The last few seconds of the video show the MC asking Haley how to pronounce her last name and she responds with Westenra.

  • There's two voices... did she lack confidence, and sang along accompanying a previously recorded rendition? I too find it hard to believe it's her. Wish there was a closeup. Her face might be more recognisable than her voice!

  • "Two Voices" Gosh cant you tell its the original recording with michael Jackson in the background. They may not have found a instrumental version.

  • I'm a huge fan as well. Can't belive it's her though. But she could've grown into it...she's only 7 here...

  • I think it is not Hayley.

I am a HUGE fan of her but I think

    she never sung like that.

  • By now I'm sure you have been corrected by being directed to look at the last part where the MC asks her to pronounce her last name.

  • is that REALLY Hayley Westenra? She's

    amazing!!!

  • She's really cute, and already at the age of 14 she was an excellent singer, but I can't say she was at the age of 7. I'm a big fan of Hayley, but that was just awful (but then again, if people encouraging her back then made her the singer she is now, I'm not complaining).

  • Haha oaw man she has a strong kiwi accent thea, My home town chch woop woop

  • Hayley sang along with Michael Jackson, so cute.

  • Comment removed

  • She sounds like a kid singing the Oscar Mayer Weiner song

  • The llittle rose seed that was planted in the winter and became a rose in the spring.

  • Hayley still wears this same dress on very special occasions.

  • really?? so cute~~

  • Knowing where Haley is professionally now, it's hard to believe how LOUD the crowd was, virtually covering her up. I would have a hard time singing over all that noise.

Amazing to know this is THE Haley Westenra.

  • agree 100%

  • r.i.p the one and only king

  • perfectly adorable.

  • I'm a little confused on why he needed help in pronouncing her last name. Isn't Westenra pronounced the same way it's spelled?

  • and look where she's now! Right on top!! Nobody has to ask her last name now!! :)

  • Awwe, she's really cute. Not that bad of a voice for so young either. Now she has an enchanting voice!

  • After watching this clip, I have new found appreciation for Connie Talbot. :P

  • Ahh, she's cute here.

  • Well, she's still pretty cute. :)

  • I can't believe it hayley at 7 !!!!!

    Greetings from Mexico

  • hello everyone!!! please can you give my water is wide version a listen and please comment on what you think....thanks abi x

  • Hayley is now a beautiful and talented singer, so whatever will Connie Talbot be like when she becomes adult, because if you watch her at the same age (in fact possibly younger)you will be astounded.

  • Susan Boyle brought me here, but now am an avid fan Of Hayley.

  • haha same!

  • same here too O_O

  • A big point missed is that Hayley came second - undeterred or maybe even because of that second place she rose to stardom, plenty of help from her Mum who we hope was not making the video.

  • Aww! Even talented back then! What a cutie!

  • What an inconsiderate audience. Is it because it's a child that they think it's acceptable to talk all the way through her performance? Or is it just because they're unthinking idiots?

Well done though. I can't imagine that many 7-year-olds would have been able to see that song through as she did.

  • @jonajsil You should hear how she sings THESE days! LOL

  • @jonajsil many videos on youtube are like this. I don't think the talking is actually that loud. Handheld cameras tend to pick up the sound closest to them, so the crowd probably sound a lot more inconsiderate than they really were and the camera picked up the sound of them talking more than the sound from the stage.

  • @jonajsil I hate when I go to performances and NO ONE respects the person performing. Talking and going about their business. Like Jeez, this is a PERFROMANCE. You want to be rude, please go somewhere else.

  • @jonajsil I know I would have told everybody to SHUT UP AND LET ME SING!!!

  • @jonajsil I totally agree with your sentiments. I also noticed that they were walking around as well. Mind you, she had the last laughs, look where she is now. Ps, why did the person holding the camera not keep it still and why did he/she have to play with the zoom half way through?

  • @Andrew68Taylor The 'cameraman' was only 13yrs old and was playing around!

  • @jonajsil No, its just that it's a typically uncultured NZ audience. The song isn't by Michael Jackson, by the way.

  • Susan Boyle brought me here from Evansville IN, U.S

BUT now i am gonna start searching for videos on Hayley Westenra

  • I have a suggestion for those who thought we MUST know this singer otherwise we live in a cave: Please please make a full list of the singers, dancers, or whatever, who performed in front of your queen (and you need to update this list often), and post it worldwide, so that we narrow-minded people can learn these names and avoid being labeled as a caveman. Thanks.

  • susan boyle brougth me here

  • she is amazing .. Haeley is wonderful and has a wonderful voice .. I dont need susan boyle or

any other crap to bring me here to listen to haeley's music ..

  • Comment removed

  • how cute! But i've seen video's from her being older, her voice has changes and become SO beautuful!

  • Comment removed

  • Fenketje, you are right, and I think you are beautiful as well!

  • Comment removed

  • oh my life...did i miss the memo about saying that susan boyle bought me here? the last 8 videos i have watched have those comments...just look at her though, a great voice even at that age, and still brilliant today : )

  • Cute! ;)

And btw: I'm so damn sick of "Susan Boyle brought me here from wherever", so what? What has that got to do with Hayley singing in a talent quest??

  • If not because of Susan Boyle, we wouldn't know Hayley (I still don't know who she is; I bet she is not world-famous) and wouldn't even check out this video, which was listed in the related videos section.

  • She is world famous. You must have been living in a cave. At the age of 21 she has already performed in front of the Royal family, in fact, she actually sang thrice in front of the Queen within the span of a week.

  • what a pity . .

hayley westenra is amazing . . a very talented singer!

you never realize that the royal family plays important role . . the world today is the product of the british empire . . and british empire is belongs to the royal family . . Queen plays important role in goverment as well as in commonwealth . .

see something from many aspects don't be narrow minded person

  • I'm not british nor from the english speaking country. I admire their contribution to make the better world.

there is no country in the world which is the largest AND most populous. the world largest country is Russia and most populous country is China. which one you mean?

seems you don't really clear with what you said or . . oh I'm so sorry may be you are not really well educated . . think before you speak.

I strongly believe the caveman like you always said is resemble yourself.

  • Comment removed

  • She may be world famous - in the world of singers and/or English-speaking people. I never heard of her, until i found her version of "I dreamed a dream" while listening to the 10th Anniversary Concert of Les Misérables.

And i do not live in a cave or lack culture or anything.

  • Meiroh. Hayleys latest album Hayley Sings Japanese Songs 2 debuted at No 16 in the Japanese charts and since has reached as high as No 10. She was also named in December 2007 as the biggest selling classical artist of the 21st century. Hayleys appeal is universal with the exception of th US where bland formula musc seemd to dominate.

  • Don't get me wrong, i wasn't saying she's not a true artist (as an adult) :)

But i don't think she is that famous, really. Do you know the amateur sentai series "France Five" ? Well, it's well-known (and liked ^^) in Japan. Yet, in France no one knows them...

It's the same here : she may be a great artist, but she is definitely not worldwide famous, and it's not only about US ;) (please don"t answer "France is known for not knowing anyone but themselves", uh ^____^)

  • Good point! Just because people don't know your favorite singer (in a specific culture or dominated by a specific language) doesn't mean people are narrow-minded or cavemen. Even if I don't know any famous singers in the world, it simply means I am not interested in singing or music, nothing else.

As Merioh said, this singer sings well (and yes, as an adult), but not as famous as you fans think. When fans get too crazy speaking for their goddess, things become ugly.

  • USA is only 300 years old, they will catch up on the culture in time.

  • hey!

  • So does Hayley! :D

Both of them perform opera songs really well!! (though "Ben" is not an opera song)

  • celtic woman brought me here

  • Good singer

  • Cute

  • She's so adorable with a great voice!

  • Susan Boyle brought me here from Northern Ireland!!

  • Susan Boyle got me here from England

  • susan brought me here from california usa!

  • Susan brought me here from Canada!

  • Susan Boyle got me here from Australia.

  • Susan Boyle got me here from Hong Kong.

  • LOL

    Susan as well!!! from Poland

  • Is this really her?

  • Yes it really is her! I knew her well growing up in Christchurch, New Zealand.

  • Thats so cool! Thank you I wasn't really sure.

  • Susan Boyle brought me here again from Egypt

  • Susan Boyle got me here, too. Nora from Egypt

  • She is just adorable

  • still...Susan Boyle brought me here from Austria

  • Stop spamming

  • awful

  • Obviously a proud mummy moment here, its a pity the crowd kept chatting as she was singing. I would be furious if I were trying to video my daughter and this happened. Have a little diva in our household too, but nothing Hayley. We think she is amazing, all the best xx

  • Brilliant, thats soooo cute.

I think Haley is an amazing talent and a great ambassador for N.Z.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • In this vid, I could obviously guess that she's a soprano and pitch perfect!

  • czy ktos zauwazyl ukryty talent A.D1994

  • it sounds horrid cause the vid was made in crowds and a tape is playing with her to sing along. But you can hear she already is a very talented 7-year old!!!

  • Soooo cute!

  • Wow, what a horrid voice at 7, har har. Maturity has done Hayley right. Quite the Angel. ^.^ :)

  • It is still better than most 7 year olds voices are!

  • That's so sweet!!!

  • Someday a talk show host interviewing Hayley is bound to show this video.

  • The camera work is sheer genius! It harbingers the current handheld cinema noir. The kid deserves an oscar.

  • it would be pretty cool to see the video from mcdonalds young entertainers as well!
