@zzausel I did not mean it's boring. I love Troyanos but I prefer the version by Natalie. It's undoubtedly the most brilliant and engaging version ever.
I love Troyanos but this recording is a bit daunting. Her voice is too forward and overwhelms the orchestra. As opulent and lovely as her tone is, you can't fully appreciate it given this imbalance.
@Azzenstudent Since TT was not the conductor, sound engineer or producer she's not to blame for any imbalance you hear. Besides, this post sounds altered - much more echo here than on the actual CD. It
Incandescence des sentiments, voix-miracle... magie de l'instant suspendu entre deux notes élégiaques... Je veux mourir en écoutant la Troyanos.......
i can't believe that she's the one who sings the role of Romeo,Sesto or Octavian listenning to this. Got the CD recording conducted by Richter recently but haven't listened to it yet! What a wonderful Cleopatra she is!!
Hey manrico73 - if you haven't gotten the answer yet this is from a full length recording of Giulio Cesare conducted by Richter. It was originally put out on DG in 1970 and was recently re-issued on CD
This was the talent of Troyanos, able to move even in a soprano aria... just captivating. I have a coach who is very learned in the Baroque style and she brought this up and said "wasn't that just right, wasn't that great the way she did that" - I agree!
Is there that which could bring tears down the cheeks of angels and surpass the haunting beauty and the heart-breaking music of this aria? The orchestra faithfully follows the lasting sorrow in Troyanos' voice. This is a unique version which I'm sure many will cherish. I strongly believe that there had never been a composer as divine as Handel. Thank you for sharing this great music from such a great man.
Sublime interprétation très émouvante. La direction n'a beau pas être baroquisante, cela ne me gêne pas. Troyanos fait parti des voix les plus sensuelles de mezzo et les plus belles qui soient.
MOST SUBLIME AND BEAULTIFUL VERSION THIS ARIA EVER!!!

Best version of this aria.

I think that Natalie Dessay and Emmanuelle Haim have recorded the best version ever. This version is a bit monotonous.

@Monteverdiforever Who the hell can get bored by this combination of Händel and Troyanos?

I like everything except the depiction of the Ancient Kemetic people on the video.. They were not Europeans! They were Africans!
actionsrlouder 7 months ago
@actionsrlouder Cleopatra was ethnically Greek and those closest to her would
have been Greek as well. So the European dipiction of these ladies is actually
historically accurate.

TheRealBlackRefleX 9 months ago
@TheRealBlackRefleX My sense of humor is alive and kicking! LOL! I assumed you were joking but
I had to comment just in case. I've read some of the most moronic comments posted on opera pages
by people who know nothing about opera. I sometimes find it hard to pass them up without comment.
Even if I lost my sense of humor completely it would never keep me from listening to Troyanos and/or
Handel - yes, truly a divine combination! No hard feelings my friend. Cheers!

Her high register is as haunting as her lower register. Brilliant, and dauntingly ghostly. She was the greatest.
