I know, I lived and played in Nashville for 5 years...and that place too has some of the most amazing singers, writers and musos, and studios in the world and probably a greater concentration of musicians and studios anywhere
Glen stands among the greats as an original entertainer in his own right and a great guitarist. Some of his songs even country fans have hardly heard of like, London, Late night Confessions, and others which are great songs.
This guy has sang and played with Frank Sinatra, The Beach boys, (Brians Part) and more and played on hundreds of high profile sessions. He is unique by the virtue that the songs or many of the songs he has sung were written for him, by the like of Jim Webb and others, bit like Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Generally Elton plays Piano and sings and Bernie wrote most of the lyrics or was the power house behind the lyrics with some input from Elton...
Being a brilliant session player, a brilliant vocalist - I think he has or had 3 octave range and singng unique and beautiful songs doe snot make him neccessarily a song writer which he is not and never claimed to be unlike many popular country singers today who often hook up with popular songwriters just to get a slice of the income....However, you dont have to be a songwriter to be unique and special or brilliant as an enterrtainer.
OK, enough garbage. Let's just admit to the fact that the album is really good, but what I miss in it is his excellent lead guitar work. Too many people (hi Heather) do not realize he is in that group that includes Jerry Reed and Roy Clark, and today Brad Paisley: great singers who are also known to their fans as fantastic guitarists.
near the start of his career he didn't want people to know he could play the guitar because he wanted to be recognized as a vocalist.... maybe he wanted that same message sent with this album.... but It definetely was disappointing to not have any guitar rifs!
I have always been a big Glen fan. This album is wonderful! He has such a great voice for being 71. How nice to have Robin Zander, and Rick Nielson on the album. I'm from Rockford, IL and Cheap Trick is such a good band.
Just got this CD. Great sound, great production, great song choices. Very impressed with Glen's voice at 72!.......WOW!!
I loved every song at first listen...and that doesn't happen to me very often...Love the modern songs with a that signature Glen Campbell guitar and voice!!
As your are musically ignorant and that is be expected from a 16 year old , you may wish to know that Glen doesnt write his own songs and has been recording and interpreting other peoples songs for 5 decades.
This album is amazing! Just look at the Amazon user reviews...His great voice, the songs, the arrangments..."Sing" makes me want to cry every time I hear it, just like Wichita Lineman and Galveston did. A VERY welcome comeback! I hope he does more.
Just picked up this CD. It may be a must have. I love it. Every song is perfect. I wasn't sure about the Green Day tune, but he really makes it his. Production is on the mark and Glen Campbell sounds like I remember when my mom used to buy his albums.
Glen's voice dropped to a baritone range in the 1980's, but here he sounds like the Campbell of the 70's again! At age 72, this guy is still singing better than any 30 year old in the top 40 today.
I'm anxious to check out the new album and Glen deserves the renewed attention in today's bleak national music scene where talent and originality seem to come along like a blizzard in July.
As a child I was a massive fan of Glen Campbell's Jimmy Webb era songs and albums, he had and still has a voice that melts when matched with strings and melancholy. Ive heard three tracks, I love the originals. These versions are even better! I am SO going to buy the album, something I never thought i'd ever say again, and something I havent done since 1976 (apart from reissues). Glen's back, yay!
I'm sure people will make fun of this CD, but Glen Campbell is actually an awesome singer. If the album is anything like his version of "Sing" in the video, I'll be buying it!
Not that we needed this album to show that Glen is without question the finest Vocalist/Musician of our generation, but a fitting example to all serious music observers - Glen Campbell will influence our new generation. Rightly so.
Glen's vocals sound fantastic ! I was a bit worried at first because he really hasn't sounded that great on his last few albums -- but this is amazing !
I am SOOOO psyched about this project!!! I've seen the songlist, and listened to most of the originals...I can absolutely hear Glen performing all of them... the U2, "All I want is You" 'Glen Campbellized" guitar solo will be awesome! I didn't know what direction he would go with his next album...this is a most pleasant surprise!
Great album and just a legend. We are looking forward to having him at Yarrawonga Showgrounds Friday December 4th 2009.

Went to see him two weeks ago in Birmingham. He's better now than ever. The covers are great and he's made them sound like his.
Been listening to him for 30 years and he just keeps improving.

Ahhhh, okay, so having an OPINION and being a young Aussie counts as being musically ignorant? I call that a gross generalisation.
This guy by the sounds of it has enough talent to write his own music, all I did was question why he hadn't.
It is all well and good to be an "all knowing" 40 year old, just as long as you don't insult others for being who they are in the process.
Good luck to Glen in the future. Hopefully he'll add some whole hearted originality to his collection of work.

I'm sorry, how do you define ignorance? Surely your older generation did not embrace those before you.
To call us "musically ignorant" would only be highly hipocritical.
Furthermore, with a user name such as yours im sure your credibility can be surpassed by no one?
I didn't think so. Of course, each to their own. Had i any desire to hear horrid renditions of perfectly good songs i would listen to someone else.
