  • Talk about musical alchemy.

  • oh man

  • What a Quartet, Barron is avesome.

  • スタン・ゲッツ、ケニー・バロン"SevenStepsToHeaven"ジャズの王道、理想郷、ここにあり~ベースがアレックス・ブレイクなのが嬉しいね!#jazzm

  • holy shit kenny barron is amazing

  • augh i love jazz

  • Actually it was just Victor Feldman that wrote Seven Steps to Heaven for Miles. Victor wrote it in just one night in the back seat of a car per Miles request. Gotta read the full true story along with other cool stuff on the new site: VICTOR FELDMAN.COM. Love it!!!

  • What a performance by Getz and what a rhythm section! I love this challenging tune by Victor Feldman and Miles Davis. These pros make it look so easy. Peace, Peter

  • Man they're all soo talented.

  • another great tune brilliantly played by all.great drive & dynamic flow.superb.5*****

  • Kenny Barron is OFF THE HOOK here, totally killin'.

  • VICTOR FELDMAN wrote this tune. LOVE IT!!!!! Check out the You Tube video just loaded up by going to: SEVEN STEPS TO HEAVEN - VICTOR FELDMAN LIVE. VICTOR is amazing on the VIBES!!!!!

  • After Barrons solo they had to throw away the piano!Sensational!

  • i have so much respect for stan getz

  • I like this version much better than the original one. Great piano solo going on here..!

  • @Nonettegetz - just saw your reply - thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • who can dislike this??? wtf?

  • @HyrulianWarlord

I'm going to assume that they had their minds blown by this and couldn't see straight enough to hit the thumbs up button

  • smokin'

  • GENIUS

  • haha...

the title should've been "Stan Getz - Seven steps To Heaven (ft. Kenny Barron)"

  • his bass is so high

  • see this is why I find him to be one of the most complete players ever, he was playing funk, bossas, ballads and bop right up to his very last recording. I think everyone can learn from Getz.

  • As Chet Baker said, a drummer has to be REALLY good to be better than no drummer at all.

  • What do jazz and air have in common?

    You can't live without either!

  • @boxing1000 I can breathe bad air, but my jazz must be pure!

  • the pianist sounds just like bill evans (or another pianist if not evans) but its not an origional sound

  • @pmr360 Stop doing drugs...

  • @pmr360 -- How you're familiar with Bill Evans and don't know Kenny Barron is perplexing. As a kid (20+) he replaced Lalo Schifrin as Dizzy Gillespie's pianist in the mid 1960's. Some wikipedia and youtube research is in order for you. Try "The Art of Three - Billy Cobham, Ron Carter and Kenny Barron" for a start. BTW - he's the 2010 headliner for the Monterey Jazz Festival on tour.

  • @pmr360 Bill Evans isn't an "original" sound. Everybody has predecessors. Evans borrowed a lot of stuff from guys like Bud Powell, Red Garland, Wynton Kelly ect. Kenny Barron is a modern bebop pianist. His sound will be familiar, although a good pianist can recognize him because he DOES have a distinct sound (aggressive touch, freight train-like groove and time, strong bebop phrasing, occasional modal/pattern use....)

  • the pianist sounds just like bill evans (or another pianist if its not evans) its not an origional sound anyway

  • @pmr360 What does your therapist have to say about this...?

  • Hi Cerpa05, hope alls well - was wondering which DVD this is from? I'm working on a documentary about female jazz musicians and was hoping to license a clip to feature Carrington in this performance - thanks so much!!

  • @erinmli8 --- "Stan Getz, The Last Recording"

  • My god, that's the hippest piano I've ever heard!

  • great playing but man does that drummer sound like Gadd!

  • Just rocks !!!

  • Go Kenny!

  • JUst here again listening to what is still my favorite video on You Tube

All of us are so lucky to see and hear this. I met and heard Satn once 1976 ona Jazz Cruise on Rotterdam. awesome then as forever. Once in a lifetime a player like him.

Coltrane supposedly said of Stan" we'd all play like that , if we could "

  • Terri Carrington is simply killing on drums...

Usually, I don't pay much attention to drums, but Terri... freakin' awesome!

  • Kenny Baron= Beast

  • thats what i thought...

    LOS NUBLES!!!!

    this song is awesome

  • Sweet!

  • wow, that piano solo is AWESOME.

  • I Love Terri Lyne Carrington XD

  • Grande jazz. Grande Stan Gets

  • Yea...Please God Thank You Tube for us.

  • how I miss Stan Getz......

    thank god for YouTube....

  • Best Barron solo ever!!!!!

  • Kenny Barron is a fucking monster.

  • yea man...he is!

  • Terri's cymbal work alone should put her in the top ten any day- anytime!

  • I love her !

  • dbest!

  • Barron's on fire!!!!!!

    Lovin Stan as always

  • This is how a very tiny bass player can be one of the greatest at the same time... Super piano solo and awesome, this drummer lady! Too bad that Stan couldn't join them not much longer anymore with his last days already in sight.

  • Too bad Rock drummers make 50 times more money are 100% more popular and only work 1/10th of what she does and still enjoy what they're doing.

  • Just because most Rock drumming is less intricate that doesn't mean it's less work. Besides, there's only a handful of Rock drummers who are more popular than Terri, and probably only two or three who really make 50 times more money.

  • Just ask Steve Smith ;)

  • Carrington's a friggin world class drummer

  • she is one of my favorites ever. She is doing the berklee summer camp this summer also.

  • @Cerpa05 She´s amazing. Coltrane once said: we would all be playing like Stan Getz..... if we could !

  • @SolubleSound

Well.. one among others cause this band rocks.. ;)

  • @SolubleSound That bass guy scares me to death....

  • As sailorguyli has said...great to have this back again....they are doing the business...love it !

  • From the DVD "Stan Getz - The Last Recording"

  • Cookin' ♫♫♫♫♫

  • so glad this is here again, My all time fav on You Tube

    Thanks

  • Great rendition. Never was a Stan Getz fan before. How great is this?

  • totally agree this got me on the train now i love it. If you like this style of getz get the album anniversary it is my favorite

  • @rj2046 Well, RJ, several years ago I was only into Trane, Rollins and the likes. Then, as I matured as a musician I started to listen to Getz. And that was it: he was such a melodic improviser... Actually, he blows melodic lines after melodic lines right there, on the spot. He is one of the greats, man. Just listen to his last CDs with Barron himself ("Anniversary" is one of them) and you'll see. One last note: I'm very happy to have broadened my musical taste!

  • One of his best!!!!!!!

  • I believe the bass player was Alex Blake.

  • Thanks! You are correct he sounds great.

  • Thanks for putting this back up. You Tube has taken this down twice, so don't know how long your post will last.

  • This needs to be up here it is so swingin'
