  • The Habs also upset the Bruins in 1971.

  • now THAT was a team. late seventies Habs best ever

  • the canadiens were in the midst of 4 straight... and, btw, bobby orr wasn't even a MEMBER of the bruins in 77-78, i suggest these 'fans' get the facts straight... anyways, the canadiens from 1975-76 to 1978-79 were the GREATEST TEAM IN NHL HISTORY...there is no doubt... 60-8 in 76-77,59-10 in 77-78, 58-11 in 75-76 and swept the two time defending champ thugs from philly... the 76-77 team led in goals, goals against, power play goals, least ppg's against, had vezina winner, leading scorer,etc...

  • @graciemaemarie11

I would agree those Canadien teams from 77-79 were Great, But I'd put The 69-72 Bruins right there with them. Too bad they can never actually play. Either way inspite of the space age equipment they have today Both those squads would CRUSH any team today.

  • DonQwantsyou is clearly a faggot. Bobby Orr was overrated trash. He couldn't do a damn thing back then against the Habs, LOL.

  • @BreastsInspector "Bobby Orr was overrated trash" you say...he couldn't do damn thing vs the Habs. What a stupid fuckin comment if I ever read one. Total ignoramus. Maybe it's because the Habs were one of the teams that were especially keen on going after his knees on every hit. Maybe Don Cherry would have his Stanley Cup if he was as vicious as the Habs organization and ordered all his players to hit Lafleur low at every chance. Hearing Hab fans like you makes me wish he had you piece of shit.

  • i remember watching this game in new york. i was going for the bruins but montreal was just too much (these two finished 1-2 in the league that year) i vividly remember them playing we are the champions at the end.

  • It's a bit weird with the Queen song on top of this footage... that song didn't exist back then.

  • 1978? Yes it did. Look it up.

  • Sorry bro, I looked at a Bruins vid from 72 just before... got confused. It did absolutely exist, I believe it was recorded in 77. Rock on

  • @mandolinroad Yes it did. The song was first aired on the radio stations in North America in February 1978.

  • @mandolinroad yes the song was new(77 Queen News of the World album)and cbc first played it for Mtl the champs in 78

  • @jocolope I admitted to my little mistake about a year ago but... thanks for the reminder.

  • @mandolinroad yes it did

  • @graciemaemarie11 Thanks for reminding me but I corrected my own mistake a year ago.

  • I love the Habs, but I wouldn't sit in front of 26 inch tv with a video camera and then post in on you tube...embarrasing

  • Well until someone posts the same thing but in better quality, I'm not taking it down so deal with it Mr. "I'm a Big Fan But You're a Loser to Even Bother with This." I still think your tribute video is awesome, but don't be such a dick.

  • touchy, but still embarrassing.

  • @ramsback28 Agreed.

  • WTF were they using telescopes to watch the game? Where is HDTV?

  • this guy has a 27 inch tv and a video camera. Ever try uploading your VHS cassettes to your PC? It's pretty simple.

  • Wow, all those stats and never watched any of the games live.

  • Another 'classy' hit by Jonathan on a Habs player (Gainey) at 0:26!

  • Hey Habs speaking of Boston, the Bruins were never classy, only the Habs were classy in the 70s. they taught the Flyers a thing or two about winning. same thing against the Bruins and the Rangers. Ppl say the Islanders would have beaten the Habs had they met in the 79 finals. WRONG. The Islanders couldnt compete with the great Habs dynasty. Even the Islander fans in their sleep know this. They wont admit it though, too stubborn those yankee hockey fans lol. They should shut the fuck up.

  • Well said, ultrapower1977Habs! Ok but had it been the Islanders vs our Habs in 1979, it would have gone in 6 or 7 games! The Habs were still very good but they had lost their touch a bit in the 1978-79 season, compared to the team from the previous 3 years!

  • The 78-79 Canadiens were riddled with injuries starting with Jacques Lemaire and Yvan Cournoyer. I think Robinson also missed some games. The Islanders finished 1 point ahead of the Canadiens in the standings but the Isles were a healthy bunch, thats why they managed to finish first. Some of the Canadiens victories in 78-79 were huge: 12-0 over the Penguins and 11-1 over the Canucks. Both games at the Forum!

  • Yes, I remember Cournoyer and Lemaire having injury filled seasons for the 1978-79 season. And Dryden had a bit of an off-season based on his previous exploits. But the Habs won the Stanley Cup that season and that's what they'll be remembered by!

  • Hey Habs did you know the Canadiens gave up 0 shorthanded goals in 76, 77 and 78 playoffs? Did you also know the Canadiens gave up 0 shorthanded goals on the ROAD in the 75-76, 76-77 and 77-78 seasons? Thats 120 Road games (40 per year). Thats the most incredible statistic I have ever seen or researched on this team. If you wanna know any stats, stats that ppl may not know just send me a private message, I will be more than glad to give you some nice info.

  • You know Habs, the ignorant people are the ones who will say the Canadiens got lucky to win 24 Cups. Untrue. Us Habs fans know they won 24 Cups in legit fashion. When Im not working I pretty much do research on the 76-79 Canadiens, particularly the hidden stats, like shorthanded goals against for example. Another thing I do is calculate blowouts. To me a blowout is a victory by 5 goals or greater. The 76-77 Habs had 22, so far the most of any team Ive studied. But Im far off studying every team.

  • And I thought I was 'the' Habs fan! But you and this other Habs fan "BobbyOrr" are taking the time to check the stats!

Look, I remember very well those great Habs teams from 1976-79. Their run of 4 absolutely dominant years was absolutely crazy! You just knew they were going to win! And the stats that have provided is proof of that.

  • BobbyOrr and this account is from the same guy - me lol. I was playing around with names and finally came up with this one I have here ultrapower1977habs. I think the name sums it up clearly. Never will there be another team like this. You know I am still in the process of completely disecting this 76-77 Habs hockey team. My next piece of research takes me into knowing which games Cournoyer DIDNT play. You know the roadrunner missed 20 games and the whole playoffs.

  • Im probably the one who misses the lockout period of 2004-05. They showed on TV the old Habs games from the 70s and 80s, mainly stuff that featured Habs vs. Bruins, Habs vs. Flyers and Habs vs. Nordiques. My favourite matchups were always Montreal-Boston. It brought the very best emotions out of both teams, the fans and the cities. You know I think they even showed the complete game where the Bruins 4-3 at the old Forum over the Habs, the only loss at home by the 76-77 season (regular season).

  • Heres the information for that game in question

  • @ULTRAPOWER1977Habs Blowouts against shit teams in the regular season don't mean a thing. It could just mean that one coach let his first liners play and run up the score and pad their stats while another would smartly play their 3rd and 4th lines more on the power play and not risk injury to their stars. Bowman was an asshole enough to pad stats while Al Arbour would even out ice time knowing that the game was in control. Even many Habs themselves admit they got away with a cup win in 1979.

  • 24-7 all-time.....wow.....that's got to hurt if you're a Bruin fan.....which I'm not. I know now why the Bruin fans are so mean-spirited on youtube toward other fans, especially the fans of the Habs.

    Go Wings!!!!!!

  • You know what hurts? Being a Canadiens fan on their 100th aniversity and watching the Bruins squash them 4-0. Who could be fans of fans who boo The American National Anthem before game time? What a bunch of frogs!!!

  • Yeah, that was classless. But you know with Montreal, there are up times and down times, like with most teams.

    This was just Boston's year.

Now the Bruins have to win another game just to get it to a game 7.

  • Which they won. Game 7 comming up! Go B's!!!!!!

  • It should never have come to having to win Game 7, which they will win.

  • The Habs were without 5 of their best players due to injury! It's not an excuse; it's simply reality!

  • Ummmmmm........Eat me?

  • TOO MANY MEN ON THE ICE! You guys stole this one and it should'nt count.

  • I suggest you do some history learning. This was the 1978 finals, a series won in 6 by Montreal. The previous year they had swept Boston for the cup. The year after, 1979, was a semi-final series and the winner would play the underdog Rangers. That's when all the too many men thing occurred. It was a legit penalty too, I don't see how it shouldn't count. It counts because Boston's bench was dumb enough to let it happen.

  • stole this one ??? LOL.. Don Cherry vs Scotty Bowman..mismatch. The Boston Bruins fans " KINGS OF SMALL VICTORIES" . Starved since 1972 and counting.

  • @ramsback28 Eat dogshit! The B's had the greatest of all time Bobby Orr who skated circles around those FROG MFers!

  • @fatdogtavern, how about the results of Jacues Demers call on Marty McSorely, illegal stick in 93? That was a good one. I think it almost made Gretz retire after that final.

  • Its our god given right to beat the bruins.

  • My dad was at that game! He was rooting for the Bruins, but to this day he still says it was the most amazing game he had ever seen live. He said he couldn't believe the way Guy LaFleur played - it was unbelievable.

  • Great Memories, !!!
