@MechanicV8 Well, if that's true than Siamese Dream should be called Billy Corgan's first solo album. James Iha helped write the introductions from Soma and Mayonnaise; Mike Mills helped write the music for Spaceboy. Billy Corgan wrote, recorded, mixed, played all the instruments, preformed lead and backup vocals for: Today, Quiet, Cherub Rock, Hummer, Rocket, Disarm, Geek U.S.A, Silverfuck, Luna, and Sweet Sweet yeah that's a solo album.

@MoonMoney1 Anyone who is expecting Siamese quality is a dumb ass. A forty year old cannot write the same type of song a teenager can. Besides, I think he is finally happy, and that is GREAT!!
@DustyAndPistolPete You are wrong. "Song For A Son" is great, "The Fellowship" is amazing... That is how I see it anyway. Though "Tom Tom" really feels like "classic" TSP, but not as an attempt at the "old" music, but simply as evolution of the band's music. Fantastic.
This song is killer. I have been a pumpkins fan since '92 and definitely--in my opinion--the best thing Corgan has written since MACHINA. However, the opening verse guitar line is VERY, VERY, VERY similar to Death Cab's 405. Not a complaint just an observation.
Hm...don't care for this version as much as the live versions I've seen on youtube. I much preferred the song with the opening riff being cleaner, and without the heavy guitar riff over the chorus/bridge sections. The second guitar instead playing an echoey lead over Billy's riff gave the song a lot of atmosphere.
Best song Billy's written in years, right here. It's just a shame that he continues to insist on using the "Smashing Pumpkins" name for what's really "Billy and the current group of people he hasn't thrown under the bus". The (real) Pumpkins had style and character and attitude that balanced Billy out, where now it's just his ego trip.
But still--best song he's written in years, no matter what band name he releases it under.
@DigiFluid It's still the Smashing Pumpkins to me. It is his right to continue under this name. He recorded most of their old stuff solo (except drums) by himself anyway.
Anyway . . . This is a really good song and it has been released as a single, so I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a big hit on modern rock radio.
hi there, you can write me at amg-mail@web.de if you like. I don`t wanna post so much personal information on a publich bulletin board too, but I`m gonna tell you then. yeah, I have myspace too or maybe myspace has me... the aeroplane flies high-box contains some of the most beautiful b-sides the pumpkins have ever made. these songs can even cure a cold within one day... ;) *lol*
use your ears. "everlasting gaze" was without doubt the hardest of all "machina I" songs. "heavey metal machine" and" imploding voice" are rocksongs too but they are by far no "hard" rock-songs. they are just arranged as rock songs but necessarily created as rocksongs. for instance the demo of "heavey metal machine" was more a electro-song and imploding voice is not really much harder than most of the other songs on machina I. nonetheless you find far more rock-songs on machina II.
@schmatzekater actually i don`t want to post so many personal data on a public bulletin board. but if you are interested i would like you to give me your mailing adress. so i could write it to you with more privacy. by the way do you have myspace? i don`t really like it, there are better ways to stay in touch with each other...but anyway: nearly everybody uses ms.hard to absent o.s.
with reference to your last posting: i adore the aeroplane flies high songs. perfect for cold day in late autumn!
so as d`arcey, james and finally jimmy left the band they gave corgan the chance to let go. it was a clear sign to better stop then thinks are just good but have little chances to become really great again.
corgan is just sick in the brain because for every album he chances everything and this concept can`t work longer than some years. he is like a little kid who always wants to play with something new and throws the old toys away. even this 44-track idea is pure megalomania.
hi again, I`ve never read a review of teargarden in one of the great mags. for sure they don`t send their EPs to those mags. just a few internet-mags have written some reviews about teargarden....
unfortunately I haven`t heard D`Arcy`s call but her comment nailed it. ;) love her very much. she, james and jimmy are the only true pumpkins because they knew then it was the right time to give up this band.
@schmatzekater one further question: do you know about any official review for Teargarden? I wonder if there are reports in the common mags. I assume that you have heard D`Arcy`s call-in in that Chicago Radio Show and her entertaining statement about Billy`s singing skills. I suppose she compared it to a tibetan monk :-)
between old Pumpkins and Teargarden. In a certain way even Future Embrace was more similar to the 90s Pumpkins stuff. That`s just a matter of fact. You may like it or not but stop pointing at all the critics and discount it as anachronistic rubbish!
However I hope to see how the Pumpkins...I should have to write Billy ...develops his music further and I am looking forward to almost anything that may come.
I am a very open minded person and I really enjoy good music, no matter WHEN it was made!
@schmatzekater after heaving read this book please let me know. the whole argumentation here reminds me of it and i would be happy to share my impressions with any silver-tongued like-minded person. I should have mentioned "stitch in time" too because of it`s catchy hookline. imho it`s derisory to point at all the critics with the exclamation "stop living in the past".off the record i`m far too young to stuck in the 90s! it`s just an unprejudiced matter of fact that there exits a vast difference
unfortunately I don`t know this book but I will give it a chance and maybe something there reminds me of me... thanks for recommend it. by the way you mentioned a good point of view. it`s totally the way you say it. widow wake my mind and fellowship are even for me almost the only songs I like from teargarden. sometimes "stitch in time", too but the rest of the songs almost disturbs me, `cause I know officially that`s pumpkins yet this music has nothing to do with it...
@BackingTracks6661 ohh cool, but still rock is still becoming to commercial. with bands like overdust mixing rock and techno. techno is techno and rock is rock. lets keep it that way.
of course Teargarden has some catchy songs but it totally differs from the smashing pumpkins in the 90s. it stands to reason that people who liked mellancollie, siamese dream and adore won`t definitely fall in love with all the new stuff. that doesn`t mean that the old fans stuck in the past. it just feels as if there are two different bands with one label. well, for my share I miss the profoundness in the new songs. But Billy also made me happy with widow make my mind or the fellowship.
have you ever read Nick Hornby`s "Juliet, Naked"? if you haven`t you really should because some of your postings remind me of several passages. nevertheless, good point! pumpkins will never be the pumpkins again like in the golden age of mellancollie or siamese dream. all in all it is very grown up, maybe too grown up and i really miss all the rock`n`roll stuff and the atrabiliousness. corgan himself described mellancollie as "the wall" for the genereation x!
billy isn`t the same he was in `95 but even not the same he was in 2000. it`s same with girlfriends. would you still be ogether with your girlfriend if you sense that she isn`t the person anymore you once felt in love with years ago? so why should fans stick by corgan if "this" person is to 80% not corgan anymore and this fact mirrors in the drastic decay of his songwriting. they would still stick by him if the result of his change was good music but beside few songs the result is alarming
Honestly I don`t think any of these songs are good, besides fellowship. to make a song thaht is just "ok" and "worth listening" isn`t so difficult. there are bunch of songs outwhere that are "ok", even the most chartmusic i still "ok". but it`s not enugh for a song to be just "ok" to become appreciated.
I find it sort of odd that a studio version of "The Fellowship" was heard before the studio version of "Tom Tom", but yet, the latter song is being released tomorrow on the official Smashing Pumpkins website, and we still have yet to see "The Fellowship" to appear...
this is the best one off teargarden so far although no way near anything 1991-2000 since their reformation ive been trying to like the new stuff but i am struggling. the production isnt as good and wheres the heavyness and atmosphere gone ???
@makoeyevii I think it's coming. Also, the new stuff may not be quite the all-time classics that came out in the 90s, but compared to a lot of other rock/pop music coming out right now it is really good and still really pretty music. When's the last time you've heard any kind of guitar solo ya know?
This is turd, nearly funny if it wasn't that sad. what happened to Billy? Really o don't know how you all think this is good. Sound like generic song number 24 bland crap.
the reason people comment positive here is simply that only people who still like teargarden and follow the pumpkins even now searching for new teargarden releases. most formerly smashing pumpkins fans have given up to pay attention to the new music. that`s why you just find 200 good ratings here. once the pumpkins made music that at least 8 million people liked. ;)
@schmatzekater have you ever heard of a band called The Tear Garden? It's edward ka-spel from The Legendary Pink Dots singing and cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy does synths and stuff in it. They've been around as long as the pumpkins. It's a totally amazing band but unfortunately, they have never played a live show... ever. They just made a bunch of studio albums. Worth checking out in depth cuz their sound and style branches out in many directions and takes many forms.
so it would even better to quit than to pretend moving "forward" though they`re walking offside. look at soundgarden, they making new music now but they don`t put fans noses out of joint by drastic changes in their songwriting. damn, pumpkins there the best 90- band and now they must play little clubs and the world, the big media, ignores them completly. is this a "comeback"? this is a ruin.
at least one of you is Billy Corgan. ok, @NosferatuNite 1. I`d like to hear from the "new" pumpkins more personal lyrics with a little more profoundness. if lyrics are really heartfelt then it`s easier to make also innovative music. 2. I want more complex song melodies that are emotionally intense. - not this "sing-a-long-songs".
I don`t care if this results into more acoustic or more rocking music, if it sounds futuristic, timeless or reminds on the last decades.
@schmatzekater Well to be fair maybe these are personal lyrics to Billy and the time he is in now...He has said many times he is not the same person he was in 94 or 95...Well the Pumpkins in the passed has had many sing along songs, as well as Complexed and emotionally intense songs... Not to mention this is a 44 song album!! There are going to many different styles of music pumpkins style here he is tryin to make a balance, & not repeat....So you don't even think any of the songs are even ok?
everything became a stupid joke since 2001. this band, songwriting, singing, vocals, nothing of this is "smashing pumpkins" anymore. do you think it is a step "forward" to dissolve everything that once made you famous and gave you many fans...? that`s just suicide.
would I hear this new song? yes, because I`m open for something new and of course I don`t have to buy and still can hear it. but beeing open doesn`t mean that you have to like it. "ignorance" were to just forget "teargarden... "and never pay attention to it.
would I buy the new songs? never ever. so if corgan wants to make money he can take yours not mine.
@FreakinKoolEverything: what has it to with "ignorance" if one simply doesn`t like a song?? I don`t hate this song, some parts are quit good, but corgan sang much better and wrote better songs on ALL 90s-albums.
he should write his stupid medicore new song under an different bandname. maybe "zwan II". jimmy was totally right that it had beend better to just play old songs.,,
he is not so stupid like others. he has seen the difference and that the new songs SUCK...!
I`m glad you don`t have a vagina cause if you were a girl your boyfriend then had to always put this song in the player while he fucks you. I guess this results in quit boring sex...
"sha la la!
I`m coming,
I`m cuming,
ahhh!.."
this melody is made for funny lyrics... ;)
so anyone who likes this song shut your fucking face you guys are no true pumpkins-fans and I guess you never thought the 90s pumpkins were good. the guys who dislike this song too, please protect me.
this is just awesome. definitely the best teargarden song yet (beats the fellowship by a long shot and spangled by a hair). i would go as far as to say this is my favorite smashing pumpkins song since untitled.
if this song was written in the 90s you would have thought it was awesome, stop being one of those people that says all music written in this generation sucks. rock is STILL AROUND, its just not in the mainstream, and waiting for the right time to rip pop music's untalented GUTS OUT!
@FreakinKoolMedia I agree. The thing is, people don't understand why music "isn't what it used to be". I have figured it out though. When we are young, in our teens or late teens, we are still developing physically and emotionally. If we then in those times find music that becomes special to us, when we grow up, nearing our 30's, we will never be touched by music the same way. Today I enjoy music on another level, since I have grown up and I am emotionally stable. But: I love good music! Period.
AURAL FIXATION, each song off of TBK get's better & BETTER & I think this has a nice crunchy 90's vibe to it (the opening lick reminds me of Porcelina!)
I really really like this song. if only he'd left out one shalala i want to enjoy the beautiful guitarfuzziness. not a fan of the cheesy bridge towards but the end the rest is genius
@ritalinrush "wont"? I doubt you were alive in the Gish era, obviously you know nothing about The Smashing Pumpkins. Every album sounds different, that's music. A band can't sound the same for 22 years. Get over it.
@kanookle wow wow ..hey i know ..i never said this is bad but i like gish the best but i also love siamese dream ,mellon collie and the infinite sadness and some of the stuff after that like adore i love smashing pumpkins they are still my favoret band to date...my heart live in 90s rock
I'm getting older, too, Billy, yet I still want some music with fire power behind it. And I depend on you to do it.

MoonMoney1 1 year ago
@MoonMoney1 Anyone who is expecting Siamese quality is a dumb ass. A forty year old cannot write the same type of song a teenager can. Besides, I think he is finally happy, and that is GREAT!!

@sirwexley Corgan was 26 when Siamese Dream was released.

First really good song off the album...love it!
DustyAndPistolPete 1 year ago
@DustyAndPistolPete You are wrong. "Song For A Son" is great, "The Fellowship" is amazing... That is how I see it anyway. Though "Tom Tom" really feels like "classic" TSP, but not as an attempt at the "old" music, but simply as evolution of the band's music. Fantastic.
stakleni00 1 year ago
This song is killer. I have been a pumpkins fan since '92 and definitely--in my opinion--the best thing Corgan has written since MACHINA. However, the opening verse guitar line is VERY, VERY, VERY similar to Death Cab's 405. Not a complaint just an observation.
Secondadam7 1 year ago
Hm...don't care for this version as much as the live versions I've seen on youtube. I much preferred the song with the opening riff being cleaner, and without the heavy guitar riff over the chorus/bridge sections. The second guitar instead playing an echoey lead over Billy's riff gave the song a lot of atmosphere.

This song proves that Billy doesn't need anyone of the original members to make a good sounding Smashing Pumpkins song :)

DigiFluid 1 year ago 2

"heavey metal machine" and" imploding voice" are rocksongs too but they are by far no "hard" rock-songs. they are just arranged as rock songs but necessarily created as rocksongs. for instance the demo of "heavey metal machine" was more a electro-song and imploding voice is not really much harder than most of the other songs on machina I. nonetheless you find far more rock-songs on machina II.
schmatzekater 1 year ago
@MsSinfulSaint
where are u from, how old are you? are you on myspace, too?
schmatzekater 1 year ago
@schmatzekater actually i don`t want to post so many personal data on a public bulletin board. but if you are interested i would like you to give me your mailing adress. so i could write it to you with more privacy. by the way do you have myspace? i don`t really like it, there are better ways to stay in touch with each other...but anyway: nearly everybody uses ms.hard to absent o.s.
with reference to your last posting: i adore the aeroplane flies high songs. perfect for cold day in late autumn!

@schmatzekater Everlasting Gaze was the only harder rocksong? Really? What about The Imploding Voice and Heavy Metal Machine?

so as d`arcey, james and finally jimmy left the band they gave corgan the chance to let go. it was a clear sign to better stop then thinks are just good but have little chances to become really great again.
corgan is just sick in the brain because for every album he chances everything and this concept can`t work longer than some years. he is like a little kid who always wants to play with something new and throws the old toys away. even this 44-track idea is pure megalomania.

MsSinfulSaint 1 year ago
between old Pumpkins and Teargarden.
MsSinfulSaint 1 year ago
@schmatzekater after heaving read this book please let me know. the whole argumentation here reminds me of it and i would be happy to share my impressions with any silver-tongued like-minded person. I should have mentioned "stitch in time" too because of it`s catchy hookline. imho it`s derisory to point at all the critics with the exclamation "stop living in the past".off the record i`m far too young to stuck in the 90s! it`s just an unprejudiced matter of fact that there exits a vast difference
MsSinfulSaint 1 year ago
@MsSinfulSaint
unfortunately I don`t know this book but I will give it a chance and maybe something there reminds me of me... thanks for recommend it. by the way you mentioned a good point of view. it`s totally the way you say it. widow wake my mind and fellowship are even for me almost the only songs I like from teargarden. sometimes "stitch in time", too but the rest of the songs almost disturbs me, `cause I know officially that`s pumpkins yet this music has nothing to do with it...

of course Teargarden has some catchy songs but it totally differs from the smashing pumpkins in the 90s. it stands to reason that people who liked mellancollie, siamese dream and adore won`t definitely fall in love with all the new stuff. that doesn`t mean that the old fans stuck in the past. it just feels as if there are two different bands with one label. well, for my share I miss the profoundness in the new songs. But Billy also made me happy with widow make my mind or the fellowship.
MsSinfulSaint 1 year ago
@schmatzekater
have you ever read Nick Hornby`s "Juliet, Naked"? if you haven`t you really should because some of your postings remind me of several passages. nevertheless, good point! pumpkins will never be the pumpkins again like in the golden age of mellancollie or siamese dream. all in all it is very grown up, maybe too grown up and i really miss all the rock`n`roll stuff and the atrabiliousness. corgan himself described mellancollie as "the wall" for the genereation x!
MsSinfulSaint 1 year ago
billy isn`t the same he was in `95 but even not the same he was in 2000. it`s same with girlfriends. would you still be ogether with your girlfriend if you sense that she isn`t the person anymore you once felt in love with years ago? so why should fans stick by corgan if "this" person is to 80% not corgan anymore and this fact mirrors in the drastic decay of his songwriting. they would still stick by him if the result of his change was good music but beside few songs the result is alarming
schmatzekater 1 year ago
@NosferatuNite
Honestly I don`t think any of these songs are good, besides fellowship. to make a song thaht is just "ok" and "worth listening" isn`t so difficult. there are bunch of songs outwhere that are "ok", even the most chartmusic i still "ok". but it`s not enugh for a song to be just "ok" to become appreciated.

makoeyevii 1 year ago
@makoeyevii I think it's coming. Also, the new stuff may not be quite the all-time classics that came out in the 90s, but compared to a lot of other rock/pop music coming out right now it is really good and still really pretty music. When's the last time you've heard any kind of guitar solo ya know?

the reason people comment positive here is simply that only people who still like teargarden and follow the pumpkins even now searching for new teargarden releases. most formerly smashing pumpkins fans have given up to pay attention to the new music. that`s why you just find 200 good ratings here. once the pumpkins made music that at least 8 million people liked. ;)
schmatzekater 1 year ago
@schmatzekater have you ever heard of a band called The Tear Garden? It's edward ka-spel from The Legendary Pink Dots singing and cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy does synths and stuff in it. They've been around as long as the pumpkins. It's a totally amazing band but unfortunately, they have never played a live show... ever. They just made a bunch of studio albums. Worth checking out in depth cuz their sound and style branches out in many directions and takes many forms.

TheAlibabatree 1 year ago
so it would even better to quit than to pretend moving "forward" though they`re walking offside. look at soundgarden, they making new music now but they don`t put fans noses out of joint by drastic changes in their songwriting. damn, pumpkins there the best 90- band and now they must play little clubs and the world, the big media, ignores them completly. is this a "comeback"? this is a ruin.
schmatzekater 1 year ago
at least one of you is Billy Corgan. ok, @NosferatuNite 1. I`d like to hear from the "new" pumpkins more personal lyrics with a little more profoundness. if lyrics are really heartfelt then it`s easier to make also innovative music. 2. I want more complex song melodies that are emotionally intense. - not this "sing-a-long-songs".
I don`t care if this results into more acoustic or more rocking music, if it sounds futuristic, timeless or reminds on the last decades.
schmatzekater 1 year ago
@schmatzekater Well to be fair maybe these are personal lyrics to Billy and the time he is in now...He has said many times he is not the same person he was in 94 or 95...Well the Pumpkins in the passed has had many sing along songs, as well as Complexed and emotionally intense songs... Not to mention this is a 44 song album!! There are going to many different styles of music pumpkins style here he is tryin to make a balance, & not repeat....So you don't even think any of the songs are even ok?

would I hear this new song? yes, because I`m open for something new and of course I don`t have to buy and still can hear it. but beeing open doesn`t mean that you have to like it. "ignorance" were to just forget "teargarden... "and never pay attention to it.
would I buy the new songs? never ever. so if corgan wants to make money he can take yours not mine.
schmatzekater 1 year ago
@FreakinKoolEverything: what has it to with "ignorance" if one simply doesn`t like a song?? I don`t hate this song, some parts are quit good, but corgan sang much better and wrote better songs on ALL 90s-albums.
he should write his stupid medicore new song under an different bandname. maybe "zwan II". jimmy was totally right that it had beend better to just play old songs.,,

You're wrong.
m13y 1 year ago
@FreakinKoolMedia I agree. The thing is, people don't understand why music "isn't what it used to be". I have figured it out though. When we are young, in our teens or late teens, we are still developing physically and emotionally. If we then in those times find music that becomes special to us, when we grow up, nearing our 30's, we will never be touched by music the same way. Today I enjoy music on another level, since I have grown up and I am emotionally stable. But: I love good music! Period.
