hiya m8, and who be this? matt the hat? i'm in south africa now and married with a dog called fluffy. whenever i throw a stick or something i can truly say 'keep it, fluffy!'
thanks neil! i'm crying in my living room. they can't evict the spirit! long live leytonstonia, green mania, cafe euphoria etc etc etc...lancaster carnival of culture march 1st 2008...
seeing this has reignited the spark within me, society in the western model is like a runaway train heading for disaster.......when are we all gonna get off the goddam train!
I was too young to understand what was happening around me I'm afraid. I'm making up for my passivity in the past by being as active as possible now in local and national socialist and environmental struggles.
I enjoyed 'fuktehban's response. Very succinct...not! So some protestors smashed a couple of old cars, leaving glass there... so what? A friggin' great road was built over said landscape later! As for them being dirty, what do you expect when people are basically living outdoors, camping, etc? Would you expect to get anything other than cold, wet, and grubby, even roughed up by the pigs, if you went to do something like these heroes did? What would you've done, gone in a suit? Silly man!
Sad but interesting to look back on those times. The whole environment thing seems to have gone mainstream in some ways, but on the other hand, so little effective action is being taken. I've been looking at some of the Newbury footage on here too. 12 years on, and the traffic is worse than before the bypass was built.
yeah, claremont... i was there for a time... with er.. cody and the buckleys from no.1! and also at twyford with Lush and later with earthfirst! angry then.--.angry now.
Pagan little fucks....Get a life...Get a job...Get some money...Get a car and FUCK OFF. Thanks for destroying those cars...Leaving shards of glass and metal littered over the landscape...Real smooth.
You really are a misguided fool. This country is ruined due to the lack of empathy and understanding shown by people like yourself. As long as you've got money and a car then everything is ok is it?
Take a step outside and see what's happening in the real world!
Road building is just the tip of the iceberg: there's loads of other stuff apart from climate change. I've been involved in the eco-war since the 1970s. When did you start on your campign? I raised funds for Women's Environmental Network by selling music on and environmental theme: ECOSOUNDS in late 80s. People are just jumping on a fashionable bandwagon.
nice one for posting this socpa...i hadn't seen some of these images in years, and never in this edit, and they still inspire! proud to say a few of my shots are in there...from selar and pollock. all the best!
but let's not nit-pick. the eco-war of the mid 1990's undoubtedly kickstarted the modern environmental movement, taking the rhetoric of Rio out onto the streets, helping to revolutionize society's attitude towards the planet on a fundamental grassroots level, and in all posibility, giving you, landyloony, the wherewithal to get on your high horse today...
yeah, i think that you're right in terms of that individual event. This was an urban protest against a road scheme through Pollock, Glasgow. the locals chose to express their anger towards encroachment from the car culture by building a 'carhenge'. a few individuals chose to torch it on the day...
yeah really sensible...lets protest about polution and the enviroment etc...ok now lets set fire to a couple of cars Well done I'm sure that helped to reduce global warming
