officially, Germany has been absolved from blame re ww1. Polanddid provoke Germany by
1. Threatening invasion
2. A quick military incursion into Czeckoslovakia . Also eastern Germany was ceded to Poland thanks to Versailles. A referendum result in Gdansk ( formerly Danzing ) was held to bring it back to the Reich. Result 98%
3 Germans in Polish ( ex German ) territory murdered and persecuted. Bromberg for example
Soviets invade Poland. We don't complain. Poland got what she deserved
like I said France and the British Enpire declared war on him. For 6 moths after that he did nothing. The Versailles treaty sent Germany into hyperinflation, people dying of starvation. Hitler got them out of that and made Germany an economic power.
There were those that were not going to let that happen. They wanted a broken Germany.
@alanbstard4 You have a very tenuous grip on history if you think the Treaty of Versailles led to people dying of starvation. Please check your facts. Hitler took the Rhineland, Austria, the Sudetenland (having explicitly stated that he would not, at Munich and then he invaded Poland. Of course, war was declared on him. What would you expect? or do you think she should have been permitted to take over Europe unopposed?
@mikelheron20 The British were happy with him taking back the Rhineland, Saarland etc, they even signed a naval agreement with Hitler. Austria was a referendum with over 90% Austrians in favour
Know your history
The Versailles treaty was directly responsible for starvation conditions in Weimar republic
@alanbstard4 They werent happy - they were prepared to let him do it. Big difference. The Anschluss was forbidden under the terms of Versailles. It doesnt matter how many Austrians were in favour of it. Hitler also built an airforce against Versailles and the western powers allowed him to get away with it. German reparations (check how much was actually paid) made a relatively small difference to the economic plight of Germany. There was a world economic collapse. Know your history.
@alanbstard4 The British Government was anything but "happy" but resigned to it. They naively hoped that Hitler would be satisfied with recovering the Saar and the Rhineland. An airforce was forbidden under the terms of Versailles. The Austrians were in no position to give Hitler permission - union was forbidden under the terms of Versailles.Versailles was not the cause of hyperinflation and the collapase of the German economy. Check some facts and figures.
@alanbstard4 The collapse of the German economy was due to (1) the costs of WW1, (I dont mean reparations - wars are very expensive!) (2) the incompetence of Weimar politicians who tried to cure the problem by printing money (3) the World economic collapse. The Dawes Plan and Young Plan substantially reduced German reparations and spread them over 59 years. After 1933 nothing was repaid anyway.
@mikelheron20 No. There may be some influence there in part, but it was Versailles that started this mess off. There is even a book, " Hitler born in Versailles
@alanbstard4 There is a book called the Lord of the Rings too - but it is fantasy. When you say "started this mess off" what exactly do you mean - Germanys economic collapse? the rise of Hitler? It is far too simplistic to blame either on the Versailles Treaty. Its rather like saying that Gavrilo Princip caused WW1.
@alanbstard4 Well, we clearly will not agree. I suspect we are arguing over a matter of degree. Of course the reparations worsened Germanys economic position. But they were not the cause of economic collapse. The problem wasnt the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, rather that the western powers didnt defend it. Hitler was allowed to abrogate it little by little. The message may be dont start wars - but if you must, make sure you can win them.
@alanbstard4 In WW1 Germany invaded Belgium violating its neutrality. In WW2 Germany launched an unprovoked attack on Poland. What was Britain supposed to do - stand by and allow these things to happen? In both cases Germany was the aggressor. As I said, dont start wars you cant finish.
the Reichstag story is speculative nonsense. Hitler was the most popular politician and 44% in a multi party nation is a lot. You can't arrest the " deputies " as you call them, as they would need to be replaced. Who fed you this crap?
Don't forget the referenda he had too, and had the best economy on earth with no poor. Not bad for a " bad guy "
It was the SS Hitler's body guard very early that swore allegience to him, not the army
@TheVenturino123 it's obvious they would. The nation was ruined by communists and capitolists working hand in glove, and he got the nation going again, impressing Britain and the world
People were literally starving in the streets until Hitler saved them
@alanbstard4 Yeah Hitler saved them, and than drafted them in the military to fight the bloodiest wars ever...And had his private army behind him keeping a watch on all people...I understand where your going with this on how he improved alot of things...but he was still wrong in what he did such as invading everyone and killing MANY
@alanbstard4 ive heard this one too many times about allies declaring war on hitler...but who lied about not taking all of czech? who took all of austria and poland? he may have not declared war on them but he provoked war.. even in his mein kumph book its pretty obvious he was wanted war...only he wanted great britain on his side but couldnt get that...and with this "history written by the victors"..yes but there are also evidence and facts about what he did and his nazi regime.
@TheVenturino123 After WW1, at Versailles, the eastern part of Germany was ceded to Poland. Hitler and the people wanted it back. Hitler returned it to Germany. We never asked the Soviets why they invaded eastern Poland
@alanbstard4 yes i know ive heard that a million times...Prior to 1917 parts of poland had been part of the tsarist russian empire. Stalin saw what he was doing in poland and finland as reincorporating lost 'colonies' back into the russian empire. you really think great britian and france were ready for war with both nazis and soviets? and the relations between the allies and ussr was in a bit of a limbo..not like with hitler where it was really to protect poland from german aggression
@alanbstard4 and in the end, so what, b/c look what he did afterwards...went on to take most of europe...he would have took france whether they declared war on him or not...as he says himself in his book
@alanbstard4 He made some mistakes? His parents were the ones who made the mistakes - two of them. (1) failure to use contraception (2) failure to abort the bastard. If I hear that "victors writing history" cliche once more I shall scream.
@TheVenturino123 Theres nothing clever about curing unemployment by drafting everyone into the army. Improved a lot of things? Yes for Germans - so long as they werent Jewish or any other minority group that he hated. Hitlers success - which was very short-lived - would have ended with or without WW2. But it would have ended sooner if the western powers had jumped on in him as soon as he started to tear up the Treaty of Versailles.
Common wisdom is van der Lubbe was a mentally challenged person the Nazis lifted off the street, and used as a fall guy patsy. They burned down the Reichstag, and then take this homeless mentally challenged guy they pulled off the street and say they caught him with matches on him "red handed". Not like he is going to be able to defend himself in court, not in that climate of the time, right when everyone is looking for someone to blame and fry.

@mikelheron20 they were happy as they were German territory, and the British warned Versalles conditions too strict
The Luftwaffe was very small. The Soviet airforce was biffer than the rest of the world combined. Anschluss had permission of the Austrian people
Hitler had the best economy in the world while others suffered from the depression and they weren't going to let him break from the banking system

@mikelheron20 the name of the book says it all. Wel before it was written, the Britsh, in the 30s warned France not to enforce the unfair reparations
I was the reparations that started WW2, it was Versailles that started. Those mafia like stand over tactics

Well think about it, people thought (however much they loved Hindenburg) that he wasn't repaying France for defeating Germany.
Germany needs to be Led. Told what to do, that's just the kind of people they are.
Hence why their PM is a prick.
