I live in the USA. My teachers complained about how little we knew and was expected of us compared to their generation. Now I see the generation after me doing even poorer work lower expectations compared to us. Worse yet we are telling the current generation how well they are doing. This is really Sad. The educational system has been dumbed down to an unbelievable extent. I think its time we get involved and educate ourselves. Using tools like YouTube to make up for what education is missing.

i live in the US and im korean. and i have a japanese teacher that really pro at and he taught me for a while. so im really good with this stuff. and the amazing stuff is that even 4 year olds can do like 6 grade math. my name is James and im 14.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was the Japanese version of the abacus, the abacus from china has 2 things above the bar and the japanese version has 1.

Yes, you are right. This is the Japanese version which is also known as the modern abacus and has been adopted in majority of the Abacus Institutions around the world.

@WhiteRose1971 The Chinese version with two beads at the top and five at the bottom allows them to use it with a hexadecimal number system. The Japanese abacus allows each place value to go up to 9 before it carries to the left. The Chinese version allows each place value to go up to 15 before it carries. This is useful if you have 16 ounces to a pound. One place value can be ounces while the next can be pounds.
