  • do ANYONE have the lyrics to this song??

  • i love this song!!!! you can get it off the pbs history of the blues! i love this knind of blues like that ..old..old blues, man!!!

  • This is where all the white screamer singers get their voice from, like Rob Halford and Ian Gillan.

  • @eyeofset This is where all rock comes from even... gotta love it and show it respect!

  • ♥ .

  • tommy johnson was a great singer and guitarist.there was nothing romantic about his life or others like him.tommy was just doing what he had to . he may of had other health issues besides his fondness for a drink.many bluesmen at that time did have dissablities that put them out of the running for any kind of field work ,what else was there ?you survived or you didnt,no pacts with the devil were required,no choice either.prohibition was just part of it.

  • Why are people talking about Lady Gaga???This is not why i'm on this page, no need to be talking about modern ''musicians'' when you got the great old blues hitting your eardrum, not to mention your heart and soul.

  • I can't stop listening to this song

  • HE'S THE ARTISTS ARTIST. THE SINGER'S SINGER. A FALSETTO LIKE A COOL CLEAN MOUNTAIN BROOK. HE'S IN EVERY "HOWTO HOW TO PLAY THE BLUES" INSTRUCTION BOOK. HE'S IN MY HEART.

  • Haunting.

  • Yumm, Im considering a drink myself right about now.

  • Totally badass...

  • I love the guitar on this! A lot of these guys couldn't even read music and yet they could do intricate guitar riffs like the one we hear here - brilliant!

In stark contrast we have Lady Gaga, who was supposed to have gone to this prestigious music academy and yet thus far her records have all been tuneless shit.

  • @TheJester8979 check out her acoustic performances there actually impressive shes a very good piano player.

  • @RcUniverseGuy I might have considered it if I wasn't suffering from extreme Gaga overload and if she wasn't shoved down my throat every day for the last two years.

  • he used to drink shoe polish filter through bread

  • One of the trully greats which not many Blues "Fans" kow of.

By the way how in the hell could he drink that nasty shit is beyond me...

  • Makes me proud I'm a Johnson, even though I'm white, I like to think he's distant fam.

  • @einsteinslies y'might also be related to blind willie and robert

  • Hey, that art work is by Neil Harpe, and can be seen in the book Delta Blues by Ted Gioia. Credit where credit is due!

  • Johnson/Johnston/Johnstone is the best last name of all time.

  • @hislipsaremoving amen to that...........coz it's my surname. Lol

  • 1929

  • cool song =)

  • Eh, I'd say huffing paint will probably do you worse than sterno.

  • Y'all are right, even rendered down shoe polish provided those hooked on booze when prohibition went into effect. You might wonder why there are so many old-time blues musicians out there. This stuff will make you go blind as well as bootleg grain alcohol. Keep it green folks, that stuff killed me 3 times.

  • Every once in a while you find out things about the way those "old" days were that takes you aback. Thank you for your insight & a keen reminder not to mess with poison, whatever it's form.

  • basically canned heat is like buzzin petrol.... you get fucked up!, but can feel the effects for days.... tried them all at least once... life is for livin' after all - at least it was just a fleeting try - during the insane prohibition era, men like tommy became addicted and their downfall would transpire soon afterwards - I prefer my home grown green! (governments should make it mandatory) Amsterdam in february... roll on the days!

  • man ... this is full of the essence of poverty, despair and madness....disturbing stuff!!

  • @batterseaspark not disturbing.................very moving stuff

  • @tommyau2006 isnt it the same?? its disturbing as in you can smell the desperation and poverty in it..... it is moving like images of murdered people... this music isnt fun!

  • @batterseaspark No, you want to see disturbing go watch 3 guys one hammer. You cant see someone get killed hearing this song but that video, its disgusting, its something that engraves itself in your mind forever...

  • @termanogue no thanks!

  • @termanogue -dude, why the fuck would u tell anyone to watch that shit, hahajk i've done i too, but I don't reccomend watching it to anyone

  • @Devaprakash777 Yea that video is fucked up, I Didn't actually "recommend" per say, I just meant as more of a comparison that "if they're going to complain about something disturbing go complain about something real not a song" anyways I realize I was over reacting.

  • @termanogue -haha, i was just messing, but yeah, that vid never leaves your mind, poor old man. On a seperate note this song is amazing:)

  • @batterseaspark couldn't have said it better myself, "Cool Drink of Water Blues" is even more haunting

  • Yes, and Tommy wasn't kidding... he was hooked on the stuff.

  • pretty disturbing subject matter on this one.

  • What kind of substance does canned heat refer to?

  • Stupid question on second thought.

  • It's a cooking fuel, people used to drink it to get drunk. Various methods were used to strain the methanol out of it. Very dangerous stuff!

  • And I thought huffing paint and gas was bad... Drinking sterno? Dang.
