what SAS are you running. looking into it but cant find a kit that i like. looking to run 35's right now it has a 3" with 33's. it's a good start but not great off-road due to IFS
why toyota had to go a cater to all the vaginas out there and go ifs i have no idea if they stuck with the solid front axle jeep would be out of business
@F4izzle because not everyone rock crawls and wants crappy solid axle handling its only better at flexing low speed. If youd ever been in a toyota with bolt on long travel ifs and done some high speed off road youd take back your vagina commet in a sec.... i hate solid axle noobs. PS jeeps suck period .
@PowerLine596 Bolt on long travel and high speed dont mix buddy, if it was BOLT ON you were not doing no high speeds or maybe it felt fast to you. And my Tacoma handles 10x's better after doing an SAS to it and with a smoother ride. So stick to your crappy bolt on shit while we real offroaders will stick to our at home fabrication.
(1): I know CV joints break. Although I have never broken one, I have broken a U-joint.
(2): I NEVER said CV joints don't break.
(3): I NEVER said IFS was superior.
(4): In fact, I even said "I'm not debating the benefit of solid front axles". That means I DO KNOW that solid axles are typically stronger. So there is NOTHING to "change my mind" about.
(5): I actually DO use my Tacoma. Knowing I have IFS, I understand it's limits and am careful.
(6): You sure are ASSuming a lot. You have no idea how much I do actually use my Tacoma. I've got the scratches and body damage to show for it.
(7) Every 20 miles? Wow. That estimate is quite a bit off, isn't it? I know of NO ONE who literally brakes a CV joint every 20 miles. Not even close to 20 miles.
If you had actually had reading comprehension skills, maybe you wouldn't have made wrong ASSumptions. Maybe you wouldn't have taken what I said and ASSumed a wrong meaning.
@sglander2 PART3: I still stand by my statement "Not everyone needs a solid axle". That is a FACT. Deal with it.
The issue is when someone blasted Toyota for using IFS. Toyota knows that most people don't need IFS, and that the benefits of IFS are more than enough for the typical buyer. And it seems that almost every manufacturer agrees, since only Jeep now uses a solid axle in a non-heavy duty application.
The '05+ Tacoma has stronger CV joints/shafts/front diffs. So it's better than it was.
@WKHalford easy guy. dont get you panties in a ruffle. yes i used some sarcasm when i said every 20 miles but its true. I just replaced the front diff, and both front axles and cv's last year and now i gotta do it again.
What year Tacoma do you have? Mine is an '06. I do know they went to stronger front drive components starting with the '05 models. They now have an 8" ring gear in front versus the previous 7.5" ring gear.
thats a sick ride man. i myself have a 92 yota on 33s. nothing special. its a good truck. im just getting money together to solid axle the front and put like 8 inches of suspension lift, and bob the bed. are you a part of arizona wildcat offroad by chance, cuz i know one of the dudes there has a taco exactly likes this one.
doing the fab work should be left to someone whos done it before. But most of the work isn't bad. Rebuilding the axles, installing shocks. Weekend guys can do all that. GO FOR IT!
its fairly involved, especially if you use a linked suspention like the one in this video.
if you google " toyota solid axle kits" there are quite a few companys that sell complete kits useing leaf springs, all you need to do is supply the axle
not bad at all, my personal Opinion is that its far to tall. But i guess its all relivant to where you wheel. Rounds these parts regardless of how much flex you have you would be on your side in about 3 minutes.
Now dont take this as me knocking your ride, its nice to see some one willing to mod a relitivly new truck like that.
I guess to put it into perspective. One of my buddies i roll with has a 85(?)K5, hes rocking 49s on about 4" of lift. its all about big tires low trucks here
It did turn out a bit tall... but I had to some trade offs to sort out. Im also really into GLamis and you need more up travel for that. So it's set right in middle, 7.5'' travel both ways (at the shock).
Good eye. I used to run rancho 44044 leafs up front. To be honest, the leafs flexed almost as much, and i had less sway around town. They where not bad at all! I went to the coils because I really got into going to the dunes, no comparing the coils to leafs out in that environment. A lot has happened to this truck sense the video. I had more pics on my web site. You doing a sas?
Thanks a lot man! Yeah the jeep toyota pissing contest still goes on. But it gets to a points where it really isn't a jeep or toyota anymore. We are all out to wheel!
I had the single cab purple taco with a mild lift and black rims. Im always down to go wheeling though as long as we go somewhere that is ifs friendly.
Thanks. They don't flex really, when stock. No perfect truck. I just started with what I thought was the best and for what I like to do, made it better.
Thanks! And I do. I just bought a diesel to tow it around with. Not that it doesn't drive fine, but if i kill it in the dunes ( 400 miles away ) I need to get it home! SO... it might end up a buggy with that mind set!
Did you read my first comment? Once you start wheeling hard enough where damage isn't a question of 'if' but 'when', you will understand. Sometimes in the dunes, someone else will crash into you! No truck, buggy, toy is unbreakable. I just think ahead.
It's west of old post on ft. Huachuca.... you would love it. my friend has been to chiva and he says it's more fun and technical thank blacktail but the views up at the top of blacktail are great. Plus there's some nice cruxes to get through on the way up. ;)

TheCaferocker 1 year ago
@F4izzle Well it goes like this: Not everyone needs a solid axle.
I'm not debating the benefit of solid front axles. I'm just stating fact.
My '06 Tacoma 4 door TRD 4wd is just fine with it's 3" Skyjacker lift and tires that are 2" larger diameter and 1" wider than stock.
Once I get it paid off and can afford a newer truck for the street, I might just modify mine with a solid axle.
But for right now, the IFS in mine works just fine for me.
And saying so does NOT make me a "vagina".
