Still a great player, one of my fav's. Someone asked one of my old bands 'why no drum solo?' and guitarist replied I pretty much constantly solo...I've learned to mellow that out a lot. FWIW I'd love to see Buddy Rich playing Aenima as much as Carey doing big band. Or maybe not.

I saw this show in Grand Rapids, The kid from the Make A Wish Foundation was AWESOME. It was just a 5 piece or something but he tore it up. The 10,000 Days tour show was the best I've seen. They put so much effort not just into the music but the all around performance. I had a hard time listening to a recording for a few weeks after that show.
I know what u mean bro I saw them twice on that tour, once at staples center L.A. and once at cox arena San Diego. All of their albums are nothing short of masterpieces but you can't be a true tool fan until you've seen them live!!!
Did this in NJ too. Big Business opened and stumbled back out on stage for Lateralus (in sombreros) and they drummed at each other for a while. Intense (but neither one is Portnoy...)
Carey is a much stronger drummer than Portnoy and achieves that reputation without having to play a solo between every other song. Also, Portnoy is kind of a cocky bitch (nonetheless a great drummer). The man said Neil Peart should quite before he gets too old. Ha!
I agree 100%. I love Portnoy, he's good but he tends to overplay at times and lacks feel. He also is much better in the studio than he is live. He does have awesome feet though.
lol I was at this concert, and I thought it was awesome...tens of thousands of dollars and lights, lasers, and screens...and then a big roll of toilet paper! And yet, from a distance, the effect of it was just as amazing as the rest of the lights and visuals!! :D

i was at this show in Boston. its funny how the other drummer looks like an 8 year old boy with a toy drumset looking up at the God of all drummers...while he just undeniably plays the best shit on the fucking planet....(behind his insane arsenal of metal and wood which he calls a drumset of course).......
props to the other drummer. he probably had a blast and that would be the experience of a lifetime (at least for me being that i drum and thoroughly enjoy tool's music).

I saw this show in Grand Rapids, The kid from the Make A Wish Foundation was AWESOME. It was just a 5 piece or something but he tore it up. The 10,000 Days tour show was the best I've seen. They put so much effort not just into the music but the all around performance. I had a hard time listening to a recording for a few weeks after that show.

I know what u mean bro I saw them twice on that tour, once at staples center L.A. and once at cox arena San Diego. All of their albums are nothing short of masterpieces but you can't be a true tool fan until you've seen them live!!!

Did this in NJ too. Big Business opened and stumbled back out on stage for Lateralus (in sombreros) and they drummed at each other for a while. Intense (but neither one is Portnoy...)

Carey is a much stronger drummer than Portnoy and achieves that reputation without having to play a solo between every other song. Also, Portnoy is kind of a cocky bitch (nonetheless a great drummer). The man said Neil Peart should quite before he gets too old. Ha!

Portnoy is one of the most overrated drummers ever. He's great, but no where near good enough for how much credit he gets.

I agree 100%. I love Portnoy, he's good but he tends to overplay at times and lacks feel. He also is much better in the studio than he is live. He does have awesome feet though.

lol I was at this concert, and I thought it was awesome...tens of thousands of dollars and lights, lasers, and screens...and then a big roll of toilet paper! And yet, from a distance, the effect of it was just as amazing as the rest of the lights and visuals!! :D

man as a drummer myself and a huge fan of danny carey art work that some refere to as music. playing on stage with him would definatly be the experience of a life time. never will i ever keep up with his shit though. props to the little guy and always respects to danny as a current leader in revolutionizing music/drumming

That's Coady Willis from Big Business and currently also in the Melvins. He's a good drummer too but not in Carey's league.

this was from a show in cinncinnati dude. i should know cause i was right there watching the drummer from the opening band, which had the old bassist from the melvins in it. but yeah this wasn't from montreal. gg.

I was AT tool, on July 10th 2007 and they DID do this. Trust me, Ohio isn't special. I'm sure they did this at every concert.
