This remake does not seem to tread on nostalgia which is great but I hope the plot does not involve (as 1 too many American film does) the protagonists (number 6) saving the world from ultimate destruction.................... :)

This better be the one thing that hollywood does not screw up as far remakes go. The trailer was put together good, but time will tell. It will be interesting to see how they portray the original 6. Coming from an American`s perspective, I always thought the original series took place somewhere near Britain. Look at the intro to the show....Patrick sure as hell aint driving an American car....the whole imagery was not American. Either way it`s trivial, hopefully this remake will not suck. BCNU
Wow, lots of comments about whether the original Six was American or British. The important thing to remember was that he was playing a British character in the original.
Be interesting to see how they pull this off. Looks more of a film than a TV series here.
It's music from "28 Days Later" and that's my final answer.
I had been wondering the same question since this trailer was released. I knew I heard it before, I just couldn't remember where. Then it dawned on me yesterday that I heard it when I was going through fan Doctor Who music videos searching for another song (long story). Anyway I searched for that video, found it, and it said that the music was from 28 Days Later. I looked up that movie's music and voila. Magic.
"In the House - In a Heartbeat" by John Murphy. I think you're right though, this has to be a cover of some sort. There are different versions of the song used in the sequel, but the original is the closest one in resemblence to this trailer, at least 35 seconds into it anyway.
I object to an American no. 6 not because of patrick mcgoohan's nationality (btw... he's british. culturally that is.) but because the stereotype of the plucky american against the oppressive englishman is carried on. come on, the american revolution is over.
Also, I have the Original on DVD, so if this show turns out to be a dud, it's not like someone from The Village is going to come to my apartment and steal them while denying that The Original ever existed. Nostalgia is wonderful but I won't let it stop me from looking at a new spin on an old concept that nobody involved in it wants to "replace the old" or compete with it. Be Seeing You!
I'm on the fence on this one. I'm old enough to remember The Original Series but I'm intrigued by this "retelling" in spite of my general contempt for other "re-invent a classic" projects on film & TV. While The New #6 is nothing like McGoohan, I have a feeling that this will pull in more American viewers than an entirely British cast would on USTV while Sir Ian will add the necessary dry Brit wit that past #2s contributed to The Original (although Leo McKern, my favorite #2, was Australian).
I am really looking forward to it! My only disappointment is an American #6. I don't buy that it will draw more American viewers. They seem to be ok with James Bond, Harry Potter and Austin Powers ; )
I hate to break the news to you, but The Original Number 6 WAS AN AMERICAN! Look it up at IMDB if you don't believe me! The point that I was making is that between Brits & Aussies taking elocution lessons to appear on American TV shows and the establishment of BBC America prompting an AMC/ITC alliance, an exclusively British show isn't going to fly in this global entertainment market if it doesn't appeal to American couch potatoes! I'm not proud of that fact but I can't ignore it either!
You're entirely incorrect. Patrick McGoohan--Number Six--conceived, wrote, and starred in the series as a semi-continuation of his "Secret Agent" series. If you look at the opening to the show, he's clearly in London where he quits his job. Listen to any episode--Number Six is British. I can't imagine why you would think the original Number Six is American--The Prisoner is a classic British television series.
Look at his entry at the IMDB website! Patrick McGoohan was born in NYC, NY and his parents were IRISH! He was British EDUCATED but he wasn't BRITISH! And Patrick HIMSELF has said in numerous interviews that Number 6 was NOT John Drake! Also, John Drake worked for an INTERNATIONAL organization and answered to British SUPERIORS. While he obviously lived and worked in London, it was never stated that the UK was where his birth country was!
Saying Patrick McGoohan is American because he lived in NYC until he was four is the same as saying Mel Gibson is American because he lived in New Jersey until he was four. McGoohan was a Brit. Gibson is an Australian. Number Six's accent is clearly British. You need to lay off the caps-lock key; all it does is make you look like a gibbering monkey who thinks an actor's nationality is a life-or-death piece of information.
On the other hand, you're saying that McGoohan is British because you choose to ignore that his parents were Irish and he was born and spent a good deal of his adult life in the US would also be like saying that Bob Hope was an American even thought he was born in Britain and that Amanda Tapping is either an American or a Canadian even though she was born in the UK as well! And yes, Mel Gibson IS an American despite his Aussie-raised accent!
Also, you understand that Ireland is part of Britain, right? Because saying his parents were Irish (excuse me, IRISH!) makes it more likely that he's British than not, yes? Perhaps a Valium or something will help you out. Be seeing you--oh, wait, BE SEEING YOU!!!!!OMGELEIVENTY!!
I don't believe that anyone who lives in Ireland would consider themselves British, especially the IRA...I'm sorry, the ira, so I wouldn't be the only one who thinks you're full of it!
And perhaps a few courses in geography, history and political science could educate you about the difference between The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland! Guess which ones Patrick's parents came from? And unless you want to be arrested for practicing medicine without a license, I would suggest that YOU lay off the Valium and the stupidity pills that you're taking because you don't need caps to look like an idiot!!!
And I'm not the one who's got a problem with an American Number Six so I'm not hung up on nationalities, Mr. or Ms. "McGoohan is a Brit because he appeared on a popular British show, so there ! NAH!" Grow the hell up and admit you're clueless!
I never said I had a problem with an American Number Six. I don't. I never said McGoohan was British because he appeared on a popular British show. I have no idea where you got these ideas. But you've posted *seven times* about this nothing topic with incredible amounts of vitriol, while I've never been remotely angry. The only one who looks clueless, or like an idiot, is you. Don't you have anything better to do?
I don't understand all the haters. Nobody's watching the original version (not because it isn't good, but because it isn't shown). It's not like AMC will be burning all the prints of it. If you don't like the remake, don't watch it. Go watch the original instead. Not everything has to be about you and your childhood memories.
It's not just a matter of ignoring the new version and nostalgifying over childhood memories. There's just no reason for this to exist. It's not like two different interpretations of Shakespeare (etc); this is just another attempt to get more money without the need for new creative thought. Why not just write a new story? It's not as if creepy, overwrought conspiracy theories are hard to come by these days.
But wouldn't any attempts to explore this theme still be considered derivative and imitative? At least this concept doesn't pretend to be anything other than a re-examination of an old premise without making an effort to "replace" it! You say there's no reason for it to exist but ask anyone in your neighborhood under 30 years of age if they've ever HEARD of The Original! And if it's done right, it COULD be considered comparable to "modernizing Shakespeare" without obvious visual effects!
