  • Burgess Meredith's performance was equally, if not more, amazing in Rocky. I wonder how they decided the winner of this one.

  • Great performance - I think he utterly deserved to win. Competely inhabited the role - and the screen when on.

  • I'm glad he won but I hate how he has accused film actors of being sellouts.

  • I like Robards but I really don't think he deserved to win for All The President's Men. His win the following year was even more of a mystery to me.

  • Burt Young was definitely bummed at not winning look at his face

  • Robards was awesome!

  • Is it safe?

  • Robards won TWO Oscars... and deserved both. Great, great actor.

  • I think Laurence Olivier should have won...in Marathon Man he is perfect as the mad dentist...the part when he tortured to Dustin Hoffman is really scary...I will never forget that part in all my lifetime.

  • Back when actors were less self important.

  • Olivier should have won, none of the other performances came close.

  • Cheyenne..I mean Jason Robards in ATPM. xD I shouldn't say that, limit him like that that his.

  • shouldve gone to Meredith...

  • The following year he also won for JULIA - he was appearing in a play so could not attend. Robards got very upset at the subsequent comment made by host Bob Hope who said he was "playing bridge with Marlon Brando and George C. Scott" so could not attend. He said he would decline any subsequent invitations to attend the Academy Awards - and stuck to this.

  • @okonh0wp maybe ur a fanboy with no knowledge of films

  • O'Neal was a little candy!

  • I remember watching Jason Robards in Magnolia

  • where is she now? anybody? anyone at all? is she dead?

  • @DaBigChalk1991 She had a much rockier recovery than Anna Paquin. She was in an independent film in 2006 or 2007 called "My Brother"

  • this is the category peter finch should have won in.

  • @kingcaesar5 with Bill Holden as best actor?

  • this is the category peter finch should have won in.

  • Revisited "All The President's Men" on weekend, and yes, Jason Robards pulls off his performance superbly. In fact, I think his role in the film has become some sort of template to many of his subsequent roles. Case: "Philadelphia".

  • Laurence Olivier was the best, I think. Still, a very weak year.

  • @dinasztie is it safe?

  • It should have been Burgess Meredith. I'd give Robards his Oscar for "Julia" because Alec Guiness ("Star Wars") already had an Oscar at home. But Meredith has never won an Oscar.

  • great actor buta pointless win

  • He's gonna pull off its head.

  • ned beatty or burgess meredith

  • Ned Beatty did THE best performance of that year. He should've won the Oscar for Network.

  • @nwaamw they were MEDDLING WITH THE PRIMAL FORCES OF NATURE since they didn't give the oscar to him, if i may say so myself

  • "in all my years in Hollywood" yeah Tatum, all those years

  • @nWo315 True, admittedly an idiotic line for her to say. Don't blame poor Tatum though... it's the writers of the show to blame. Just one of the countless moronic lines presenters have been given on Oscar night.
