  • 3 years later and this still helps. Thank you :)

  • im learning:)

  • I just wanted to say that three and a half years ago, I started learning Japanese from scratch on the Internet, and these videos were one of the things I used right at the beginning. I watched all of the ones that you'd uploaded at the time and they were really useful to me. Fast forward to now, and I live in Tokyo and am fluent in Japanese. Thank you, takineko. :)

  • @Azimuth1 Wow! Thanks so much for sharing! Yay success stories!

  • Desu is pronounced D-E-S the U is silent

  • may i ask a question if you dont mind, if i say Ken Hi ryu the correct translation would be school of the fire fist, or there would be any other form to say that. thanks for oyour help.

  • @dragonvalor9991 you would need to "ken hi no ryu" (no means of, or possessive)

  • @Qwerty81397 thanks for your help dude

  • "Whenever there is "wa", it is safe to assume that the word or phrase right before it is the subject of the sentence."

I don't want to hate, but that's only one of quite some mistakes in this video. "wa" is no subject marker, it's a topic marker. "Sakana wa tabemasen" is a perfect japanese sentence, but it translates to "I don't eat fish" and not "Fish don't eat", to give a very simple example.

  • Hi thanks for posting this videos i have a question how to say "i'll speak in japanese"? LOL :)

  • @ruivinha246 Watashiwa Nihongo de hanashimasu ;)

  • Very good work

i like your style of explain and teach japanese

    おめでとう

  • those are some funny exersizes XD

  • lol your precoius

  • If you do one on accents, don't forget to mention that you use (as I call it) a neutral D sound, not quite an L nor an R sound, like you have rolled your R for only 1 syllable. Which sounds a lot like a D sound, which is why I have named it Neutral D.. no idea what others opinions are on this, I am not sure, just wanted to brag a little.

Good to see you use the D sound too :3

  • @CaveofTwoLovers You should do an instructional video on that

  • too fast for slow learners

  • IM SO HAPPY I FOUND YOU!!! I wrote down the vocabulary and I have been using the excerisizes in the video and saying FLUENT JAPANESE SENTENCES! Thank You!! Soon I'll be talking like a real japanese person!! Please continue the lessons! :)

  • thanks it's a really good wibsite for learning japanese :D

  • Wow just look at how many views this first one has gotten. I do plan to do more, I'm months behind, moving around and what not. Give me about a month or two, maybe I'll have everything set up at my new house. There are about 50 maybe 51 lessons total. I'm stuck currently on a really out dated lesson I might skip it. Thanks guys!

  • I want to learn Japanese because my buddy is learning korean so we can screw with my Chinese neighbor

  • @isaaczais1

    Lol

    Lool

  • Awesome, :)

  • u talk a lil bit fast but this lesson was awesome , i look funny and weird talking to my computer trying to repeat what were u saying but i loved that , and now ur not doing that for nothing ur making ppl like me really really happy and u can be proud of the culture ur representing , DOMO ARIGATO

  • hah! Your hilarious, I swear! That is so funny. Thanks for making these lessons enjoyable by adding stupid comments, it helps, rather than making out to be like the last slide: Blah is my new favorite word, I'm not making sense am I?

  • My friend heard this and was like Watashi wa hon de su!

  • Thanks it really helped ^___^

  • Yes. Its great. Keep on doing it.

  • lol@end

  • Otoko, appllies only to men, men or it can also mean men like a human being?

And I'm sorry, 'cause I know it probably sounds stupid...

  • @ig852456 Otoko applies to men (male adults, pretty much). For "people" or "person", it is "hito". For human/humans, it'd be "ningen", which is a double-meaning word also meaning "doll"! XD

    Hope that helped .w.

  • thanks but what happened to gender stuff for "I". In your lesson you mentioned watashi-wa is the main but isn't watashi and atashi beginnings for females and boku and Ore-wa for males? so the sentence for "I am a man would be "Ore (or) Boku-wa otoku de-su"?

  • Kore wa Sparta de su!!!! :D!!!!

  • love it, ty

  • One of the blahs is spelled "bahl" lol

  • Ty :D

  • what does the predicate object mean?

  • @helloimkatiealexa lol...

  • @KFDraven fanks.

  • It's quite funny (although a bit sad) how some foreign language students (in-class) try to use "Shirimasen."/"Wakarimasen." as an excuse to not participate in the lessons. XD

  • what a sexy voice....

  • i like it and you have tought me ^.^

  • actually i do have a question isnt wastashi wa used when girls say "i" and guys use ore wa instead because i have been hearing this alot

  • I was on a video making website called Flipnote Hatena and someone by the username of Carina made a japanise lesson video, and in the end they suggested your videos, and your videos are actually pretty good!!!

  • Started studying Japanese about 6 months ago in school. I quickly became fascinated with the culture as a whole. From Samurai to Pikachu, that country is the shit! <3

  • @binnyficate pikachu is korean

  • @omgliliflower It was a joke.

  • rubbish.

  • @biitch1218 thats because your a baka.

  • @GenerationDarkness its ironic that you're calling me a baka when you used the wrong "you're".

  • @biitch1218 cool story bro.

  • @GenerationDarkness i guess you don't have a come back.

  • @saraahxhc actually, a typo doesn't determine anything at all. it only shows someone has made a error at the time.

  • @GenerationDarkness or you can't spell properly.

  • @saraahxhc you sound like you have a significance on this planet. lololololol

  • @saraahxhc you sound like you have a significance in this world LOL

  • @saraahxhc no you don't

  • Is Japanese grammar less complicated than French or German?

  • @cantavoidtrite If you're an English-speaker, Japanese grammar will be far more alien than Germanic or Latin languages. I speak German, and not so much French, but I do know that German's grammar is a wee bit more similar to English' grammar. For example, "I love you" in German would be "Ich liebe dich". Same grammatical positioning. As opposed to French, in which I love you would be "Je tu amour" or "J'taime".

Hope that cleared it up for you a bit! :)

  • I like it honey ... and your voice is hot. If you are a boy. You're still hot.

  • @iMaDeMoN2012 LOL FOREVER. New favorite comment.

  • @takineko then...what are you? :P

  • @iMaDeMoN2012 hes she was a boy, then your gay LOL

  • @iMaDeMoN2012 Sore-wa otoko-de su!!!

  • @commando414 His gay what?

  • so can you speak it pretty fluently now? just curious because I am beginning to learn japanese. I hope this helps, and so far it has. Thanks a ton(:

  • lol good job explaining your a good teacher :) add me

  • I've been to 3 2-hour japanese lessons and you have just taught me more in 4 mins. Great vid! keep it up.

  • Thank you for the video I really enjoy it :) Ramona.

  • Awesome lesson. :3

  • Hey, I found these four years later. I may be taking a trip to Japan later this year so was looking for some lessons. Thanks a lot for the effort. Very funny and helpful :)

  • Helo, i would like to know, is there this book to read in online for free?

  • at 2:9 did you notice the spelling mistake in the first sentence??

  • 50 People out there don't appreciate the true Beauty of the Japanese language or culture.

1,094 people are going to Japan for free.

  • I'm actualy taking notes right now as we go along!!!!! This is wayyyyy better than school!!! Thank you sooooooooo much!!!!

  • ....Exercises is the way it's spelled if you are wondering.

  • i like your voice >< hehehehe

  • wow holy shit im slowly and i mean slowly learning but hell im starting to get it

  • i thought that man was "otoko no hito"

  • @ilovekyokyoxD

    Thats also correct

Watashi wa otoko is simply "i am a man"

Otoko no hito literally means "man of adult" or "man of mankind"

The easiest way to think of it is "Adult man" so...you could say:

"watashi wa otoko no hito desu"

    Hope that helped.

  • please, people I seriously don't recommend that you use this books method to learning Japanese. This book misrepresents the logic of the Japanese language. A better guide to learning Japanese grammar is taekim's guide to japanese grammar. You can find it by typing in tae kim on google and clicking on the first result. I strongly suggest you use that website if you're serious about learning. It explains Japanese grammar from a Japanese perspective, not the way this video does.

  • sore in place of kore haha

  • llol "i am a man, stop calling me miss" XD

  • haha, i feel like i can learn japanese with lessons like this :3 , its not terrible to watch, because theres a lil personality thrown in, and not some asshat repeating everything they've read in a textboox like a machine. thank you for uploading!! :D

  • This is very helpful thanks! I understand most of it because I'm in 1/2 of a year of latin so it's easier to understand other languages too. But there's one thing I don't understand, sometimes people always add desu (de+su so it's not an ending anymore I think) What exactly is that then? I don't understand how people say desu at the end of sentences, an ending for a predicate compound ending+ is/are/am???

  • @RackHopper if ur are talking about wat i think you ppl just add that because it sounds cute yeah it sounds stupid but i looked it up it doesnt change the meaning of the sentence at all i think

  • lol.. dude you are funny... and i acctualy learned something...

Watashiwa Katie des... sorry if i did it wrong.. im still a begginer... don't judge me... thankyou...

  • What a delightful way this is to learn Japanese! Thank you, Takineko!

  • hello takineko.. : ) ... how many lessons are there in your japanese lessons videos?.. your videos are so awesome : ) ...

  • Wow, most upfront mention of the super expository (at least that's the term I've come to know for de aru and associated grammar) I've ever seen. Seems like you know your stuff. Good job.

  • Really Funny Explanation. . :D In A Good Way :D

    Nice Tutorial xD

  • I thought it was really good, and I really liked your adaptations at the end. I am impressed! Arigatoo gozaimasu! Keep on keepin' on in your studies! Benkyoushimashoo? ^_^

  • ooh! i have that book too!! XD but din't understand it lol

  • i love it wen u start going crazy, its funny!

  • well don't stop doing this vids

    u are so helpful

haha and i kinda like when you go crazy

  • lol i love this. it helped so much.

  • Who want to learn Japanese with me online?

  • *epic fail face* understood nothing that was said on that video!!!!

  • subscribed! hopefully i can learn japanese now =D

  • so hey im a south american 13 y-o boy, and i wanna get a japan scholarship, so HERE WE GO

  • another thing is with teh kore and sore.kore is what you use with stuff that is within touching range like if i was a HOLDING a pencil then i would say "kore-wa enpistu desu" (this is a pencil) if someone was holding that object and i was across teh room i would say "sore wa enpistu desu" and long long range as in like 60 yard range you would use "are" "are-wa fujisan desu" (that is mnt fuji) hope this helps if you find it confusing dont worry about it then teh *are* the re is sounds like "leh."

  • @moonfanaras this explained more to me than the entire video ^^ I love understandable examples!

  • @MercifulAngel lol thank though i spelt enpitsu wrong lol i was typing to fast to even notice

  • I read a similar book...

  • This helped me a lot. ^ ^

  • This was an interesting view :)

A little note though: "Watashi" is not used very often at all in Japan. It makes you sound kinda wierd/girly if your a guy.

Instead. Atashi for girls and Boku for guys is more common.

Im not slating your video at all by the way! Thanks for this contribution. Together we can all learn Japanese! :D

  • thnx u so much u earn my subscribe! i love u! lol

  • @braceletring1 issit? o.O jap sounds nicer AND cuter. SO SADD LUHH. Frech is naish. LOL i change so quickly

  • this was really funny, but its not pronouced "de su" is just "des" (with a silent U)

  • Dont be fooled by their dresses! :D
