  • In 2001, I watched this clip from my 10,000 watt r.s.l. dvd to get psyched up for the Oils show I was going to later that night. And holy shit they actually PLAYED IT. It was a lot slower than this, but it still rocked the house. I couldn't believe that they played something from Bird Noises, what an awesome night!

  • The zombie trot - peter garret at his demeted best.

  • Nothing beats the last 2JJ concert at Parramatta park when Garrett sung I dont wanna be the wog instead of I dont want to be the one...people got beat up ....onya Pete how do you feel about it now...you also sunf Fraser why dont you get fucked - now your a pollie and Fraser has become a human being.

The truth is that in these years Australia had record youth unemployment the CES and DSS were a sad reality for young people.

  • I was there, up in the balcony on the right hand side. Wish I was back there right now.

  • This song is their best ever.. I played this 1000's of times-no kidding from when I first heard on Bird noises in 1987 but this live version rules!!! I get goose bumps still hearing the guitar riffs after 23 years. My sons (2 and 3) play air guitar and no one dares to talk during the lead solo!!!!Max the volume and ENJOY!!

  • Best song they ever did. shannam138

  • the very best rockn roll song of the oils. so good

  • Here's a real transpotter analysis of where this clip came from. I think this clip and one of Lucky Country from this show were aired on Nightmoves, subsequently these clips were picked up for the 20,000 Watt RSL DVD/VHS in 1997. Then in 2005 they were remastered along with what could be recovered of the Capitol Theatre concert for the Oils On The Water DVD along with the Goat Island Show. Unfortunately a lot is still missing, the "truck mixes" were songs without video from this show

  • As I alluded to earlier, this is one of Oils greatest songs. As good as the version on Bird Noises is, this is craps all over it. The chorus is so powerful, so passionate that it still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck 25 years after seeing it the first time.

  • Peter Garrett is a really STRANGE man.

  • they rocked the relief concerts... but it's pretty hard to top this

  • Let's Surf!!!!!!!

  • i think that was the time befor peter saced his stupid bouncer . for letting in fan (pissed fan) to be on stage to sing & i see peter is makeing a tour yes fans he's back so get your sleeping bags packed

  • Giffo!

  • Yeah Giffo. Rock on!

  • I believe that this is the Capitol Theatre show from 1982

  • OOPS! (gulp!!)

    You are indeed correct, gman!

    Thanks for the "heads up"!

Google tells me that the entire concert has been released commercially, together with the Goat Island concert. (The Best Of Both Worlds).

I'll pull the vid shortly. (...and buy me the DVD set!)

    Cheers.

  • yes, it's from the DVD release, that's right.

I've got that DVD and it's been played many a time!!

It would be nice if they'd release some earlier shows from the 80's.

Check out the videos from the user called "MidnightOilVideos".

There are some great clips from the Melbourne showgrounds in 1980

    cheers!

  • The DVD isn't of the entire show. It's about half of it, which is a shame because it's one of the best live performances ever captured. I have an audio tape of the entire gig which I would put up on youtube if I knew how to do it.

Anyway, hopefully someone discovers all the lost footage of the gig. Would be terrible if it's lost forever. A great moment in Australian rock history, the Oils as a young band at the peak of their powers. Simply awesome.

  • @drew1974 Totally agree. I watched so much of this footage on Beat Box in the 80's and it's what got me into the Oils. This track and Lucky Country sealed the deal. This is one of the great recorded live performances I've ever born witness to. It hasn't aged a day IMHO.

I reckon the Oils were one of the great live acts of that era. I'm happy that I own the DVD that the ABC put out.

  • cheers dood for posting this am having a great time seeing the oils in their prime ! keep digging out these great hidden classics ! the best live band never realized at he time sadly as they werent politically correct until now as the shit hits the fan !
