  • i like fencing with a rapier hilt because its lighter....but a sabre is good

  • i do this it so fun but it hurts

  • i really wish that all the people that post the really ignorant comments that just make them sound like an idiot would stop watching fencing videos

  • This sport is interesting....

  • mariylin manson is about as gay as this video, you know they wanna have a full blown cock fight loool

  • any how rly good fencing i wish i could fence like this lol

  • @ScagAteHer epee is no good sabre is better =P

  • Nice video !

  • i fence epee. less excitement. but still awesome

  • It's somewhat disturbing how well the song fits this art. Quite disturbing.

  • The best sabre ever is Polish cavalry hussar sabre from 1630!!! It is the best fencing weapon ever!!!

    look here:

    /watch?v=pHP4pSQvbxk

    /watch?v=n6IcZnx1flI

    /watch?v=voxErBJyFuw

  • My favorite weapon!

  • Marilyn Manson = GAY MUSIC

  • all those years of training technique... gone...

  • Great looking sport. Never really looked at it before.

  • fullspeeddave: You're so wrong, while the sport is somewhat divorced from real sword fighting it's not a difficult step to transfer it to a real weapon which can be wielded very quickly making the skills of distance, lunge and parry completely relevant. Given real weapons a fencer would be far more prepared for the fight than anyone else, that was why the sport was created, the fundamentals are the same.

  • @Squeallikeafrig

it is very much divorced i might say. if you had an opponent wielding a real, sharp sabre, then you would not be jumping back and forth in a line. nor waving around with you own sword. they would maybe have an eye for the distance but since they care not of being hit one second afterward, they have not trained to parry for an afterblow (even if the opponent might have died by your hit, his/her sword might still be going toward you)

  • @DarkViktor Sorry, you don't know what you're talking about. All competant sabre fencers are taught to counter parry-repost (parrying "afterblows"). It's not always necessary (like if i'm slicing you open while you're arm's in the air). Don't surmise the complexity of a sport by just a video of glory shots. Everything in their form, and actions has a reason and a powerful effect in illiciting mistakes from their opponent so they can hit without being hit (LIKE REAL SWORDS?!? o.0)

  • @DDRKnightProductions 80% of the time they were getting hit at the same time... which would mean either they have shitty defence or all they know is how to reach a little bit further to tap the other person for a point... from wat i see they know how to run and attack

wat darkviktor is saying is true, that 80% of the time would mean both people would get a fatal or serious wound or b dead :P if it was real, doubt they would b dead though... a simple stab to the shoulder isnt going to kill lol

  • @nomnomieatu I don't have enough words on a youtube reply to actually explain all the feints, athleticism, and tactic going on in each touch. I am an experienced DIV1 sabre fencer, and I know firsthand these guys are amazing by even the most critical coach's standards. Suffice it to say you've no idea what you're talking about, nor do I think you care to. Also, it's a sport, a glorified GAME. So it's derived from swordplay. so, what? It has rules. Points. a goal. the end. don't be stupid.

  • 0:41 both think that was their point :D

  • @RoanTheOne

Left fencer Attack no, right fencer riposte no, left fencer remise of the attack; touche.

  • I just wish they would not call this fencing. They are playing with toy swords in a sport so completely deforced from reality that it bears no resemblance to real fencing. These guys are having fun, and are fit and fast; and it is better than playing computer games...but it is not fencing. Fencing is the art of defence using a weapon that can kill; these guys bout with toys & consider tapping someone a millisecond before they hit you a "win",

  • @fullspeeddave

Can you show us real fencing then? I would take one of these guys in SCA Rapier Combat or whatever anyday over the regular "Classical" fencer.

  • Nice sport. Pity it has not much relationship with real sword fencing.

  • @duran3d actually it really is

  • i luv sabre fencing so much

  • Hella yeah to fencing + Marilyn

  • I BLOODY LOVE FENCING!!!!!

  • Check out the brand new 3 weapon box just search for "Fencing scoring box" on youtube as it won't let me attach the url link complete but this is the last part - /watch?v=qoxkHLFAVoI

  • What the hell were you thinking when you choose this music?

  • @13370wn4g It's good music, to this video. Manson loves special efects and some show. Sabre fencers are the same, it's the bigest show in fencing.

  • @13370wn4g I think the music goes really well with the video ^^

  • I Love sabre but its hard to find people in my area using it most people go for epee

  • possibly the worst choice in music ever for this.

  • like the music, was foil for a long time, then went to sabre... havent looked back

  • how did you associate saber with marilyn manson??? terrible, terrible music...great bout, though. :)

  • @fencRGirl Fuck you, Mansons awesome!

  • I prefer Sabre, prefer to slice and dice rather than stab and prick.

  • Wow....

Does anyone know where to find a beginner foil class in St. Louis during the summer? I'd like to learn but I'm having a hard time finding one.

  • good fight

  • I've never seen real fencing before. Just lots of flynning, so I looked for a clip on youtube and holy shit! Those guys are quick!

  • It's become more of a game. It's 90% offence and it has the artificial right-of-way rules because the "weapon" is so light and fast. Of course, barring a shot in the eye, it couldn't inflict a serious wound

  • i fence sabre its so awesome ^__^

  • football is a bouch of sweaty men weasling in the grass

  • no this is sabre and you can strike your opponents from waist above

this is a great sport and it requires much more skills than most other sports

  • More manly than most sports. Ultimate fighting for example is basically just 20 minutes of sweaty dick punching.

  • mma takes a lot of skill, its just hard to see to the avg person... just like all i see here is people trying to poke each other with a stick, but i have a strange feeling that a lot more is going on

  • it's like most sports...

If I look at football, I can only see some big dudes crashing into each others, but I know there is so much more then that...

  • @Vampmonkey616

LMAO dick punching though? Thats funny as hell

  • you know nothing about this sport dude thats your problem sticks lol to you dude

  • thats funny!

  • metal sticks that can rip an eye out, fast precise movements that a ninja probably couldnt match, need to be super fast...yeah. gay and poking. i bet. you try it. its hard as hell.

  • lets see how well you stand against me in sabre then you have no idea how much skill and speed is required in this

  • and im assuming youll do this without any protective clothing :) fine by me i dont mind injuring fucksticks like yourself, you dont stand a fucking chance go act as if your "well ard" somewhere else

  • If I remeber right, if you try that with a live blade you would lose a finger or two.

  • Comment removed

  • Theyy are going for the speed here...

I dont think they care too much about footwork, Its good ENOUGH, not PERFECt...

Instead they are interested in going unorhtodox and surprising their enemies

And with both of them doing that, there isnt much scope for footwork, its sheer speed that seems to control

  • i fenced a girl that was going to the Olympics she was a really great competitor and she ripped me a new ass ahaha

  • Do you attach your coach's eye while watching this video , Mad? If i tell u i am bolt's student ,do i have his running speed? Try taking 1 of them ,u might get a 0:15

  • There is no way that Podznyakov has bad footwork.

  • Jeez! Wat r u?! Foil? Always tryin to prove ur point in which I am not saying is wrong but half proving my point.... I really don't wanna argue either so i'm just gunna go watch other videos... Merry Christmas everyone and check out my channel cauz I posted some new videos!!!

  • @MadCrazyMaddie ahhaahahah proving your point...get it? foilist proving his point... :)

  • Very choppy footwork and it looked as if they were balanced because if they were, they one dude wouldn't have done the splits in the beginning. Sometimes, you kinda have to take ur time and not rush cauz thats where you mess up.

  • 1. They may take big steps sometimes, but truly "choppy" footwork is called attack no, so these guys couldn't win bouts if they had choppy footwork.

    2. The splits were a last ditch effort at the end of the strip. He knew he wasn't going to get the touch.

    3. Of course you shouldn't rush on an attack, but Aldo Montano (the guy who did the splits and also was the gold medalist in the individual in Athens) and Stanislav Podznyakov (who won I believe it was 5 world championships) are poor examples

  • Ok, I don't want to get into an angry argument, but could you say what specifically you thought was bad about the footwork in this video. (same for the parries)

  • JEEZ!!!! I do sabre fencing and I have to say that there were some horrible parries in there! (those are blocks) Not to mention the footwork! Guys just like to have it go really fast and not worry about technique

  • MadCrazyMaddie, these are some of the best saber fencers of the past decade....

  • Exuse me!! I am a student of Charles Randall (google him!). He was the national women's sabre fencing coach for Mexico and coached Mariel Zagunis and Becca Ward! I think I would know a little bit about fencing.

  • Top class fencing. I mean, under thirteens are beginning to get the hang of it, including myself, but what is shown here is about ten times as fast and five times as accurate.

  • pozdnyakov!

  • 1:45-1:47 is what all fencing, swordfighting, combat is about. controlling distance and taking advantage of a very small moment in distance and timing to simultaneously attack the other and prevent their attack from hitting. for those who think this is just tag with metal sticks and electric lights i assure you that you havent got a clue.

  • i completely dissagree with you guys about how they celeabrate. if u were in the olimplics, u would be excited too

  • it is indeed childish. I went to a tournament and won first place with a jammed thumb. Even i was not partying like these guys man....

  • i was out trying fencing with my basket team last week. and EVERYONADECELEBRATED like that after every point they made...

  • In the fencing that i do is trying to be humble and not overly confident

  • It really irritates me when these fencers celebrate wildly everytime the score a point. Very childish.

  • haha how is this so confusing

they're not using swords because if they used swords, we would have a lot less fencers. why? because they'd all be dead. it's a sport, not death combat.

and also, this is absolutely sabre fencing. i am a sabre fencer, i can tell you that the slashing and arm/head hitting is not foil or epee.

  • Wow. Those fights are really fast, and short.

  • oh my...ok, so its defiantly saber fencing...(note the speed of each round)...and there not supposed to be like swords, which are specifically meant to kill the other person. Its a sport. Just like boxing, which they wear padded gloves, as to prevent damage. And yes, it is fast, which makes it AWSOME. Those guys are some of the best. Ive fenced saber for three years now, and its great stuff, great stuff...

  • No, those are definitely sabers and they are hitting arms which you cannot do in foil

  • Well, if they look like swords then they will cause more damage and will be heavier. If you can fence with a sword like saber then i will congratulate you

  • well fine i understand that, but then it shouldnt be called sabre fencing. its like a drag car racer in a stock car derby. wrong!

  • I like the music. Its odd. But not bad.

  • bad music, good fencing. Well, fencing is what matters.

  • 2:04 Holy shit! Now that's bladework! (Not that the footwork wasn't also great.)

  • great sport,one of best..

  • its funny when the gut felt and did the spread hahaha

  • I like fencing, and I like Marilyn Manson, but this is a combination too awkward to even put into words.

  • awesome sport.

  • what you se on film and what you see here, has nothing to do with eachother

    like allonewordy is saying

  • its amazing guys wonderful speed and great playing ...... keep it fencing ;)

  • What a return from Russia!!

  • i dont know too much about fencing at all but is there a fencing style that includes actually using your other hand with another weapon in it? If i were to fence id prefer using two of the sabres, foils, or epee's. if not ill stick to kendo for a bit longer before i do some fencing.

  • I've just completed my BADC advanced stage combat exam. Our disciplines were smallsword, unarmed, quarterstaff, broadsword and sword and buckler. Obviously stage combat isn't a sport as such, the idea is to make the fight look good by telling the story of it, without hurting each other. It is a lot of fun though, and sword and buckler is an interesting dual-weapon style. The level one exam of this board always seems to involve rapier and dagger, so maybe try that route if you're interested.

  • so BADC is sought like drama

  • British Academy of Dramatic Combat. Yeah, it's stage combat.

  • ur thinking of Medival style fencing, which is much different from poin tfencing. Different weapons r used.

  • Yup historical fencing, the combat art as opposed to the sport.

  • i fence and now im in advance sabre!

  • Also watching the Three musketeers right now so this made me want to look up sabre.

  • I want to learn how to fence so bad. Unfortuntaly, nowhere near me offers it.

  • That sucks you can't learn it anywhere near you. I plan to take it next semester because at the junior college I am going to has it and my friends all like it.

  • Comment removed

  • wow great to watch I've been fenceing for about a year it's good to see more advanced fencers.

  • There is no doubt in my mind fencers could kill you will real weapons, Ive been doing it for 2 years and am still astonished how good people are, I have alot to learn

  • i've been fencing 7 years but still really bad :L

  • Fucking troll.

  • ok... I did like a little but still moving in a line still?

  • kendo is japanese fencing

  • I know least you have room instede of a line.

  • True, also, why the hell swimmers swim in lines, why not go in circles? Or better yet, in spirals, full 3D, yeah baby!

  • it's interesting how most, if not all, of the movements would clearly be effective in sword fighting (as opposed to sport fencing), but this clearly not sword fighting.

  • Well... I don't know if the pro fencers would be as good with real weapons, but I must tell you, after fencing for a year I was absolutely unreachable for the very beginners. What olympic fencers are capable of I can't even imagine, it's just crazy, the stuff they can do yo you...

  • This is sport fencing and of course it's not like sword fighting like all sports it evolved.

  • actually, my point was that in many ways it IS like sword fighting, that's why I said that most of the movements would be effective. I believe the attributes would carry over as well.

  • I disagree, most, if not all, of the techniques that are effective in sport fencing do not translate to historical (combat) fencing, take even the definition of sabre, the weapon that they are using in this clip is absolutely nothing like a combat sabre. The basic attributes of fitness and awareness may carry over, but the difference of paradigm is very large, there would be a lot to unlearn.

  • i miss fencing, damn knee

  • yeah me too :(

  • i know what you mean

  • wow. it always looks so neat and choreographed in the movies but i guess like real fighting it doesn't have to look pretty to be effective.

  • that was intense

  • I would learn how to fence with heavier baldes, combined with a lot of training in Aikidio and Jujitsu, and THEN Karate.

  • Aikido is really only good for the hand locks.

The actual physics of it make little sense because your enemy isn't going to run at you and try to blatantly chop your head in a downward motion every time.

And he also isn't going to just go along with the whole "I'm going to flip you while barely exerting myself and then calmly put you into a hand lock" shtick for long.

  • i like the touch at 0:43

  • lets see the sabre against a katana

  • lets see a Ferrari against a Hayabusa

    shouldn't compare that ....

    -.-

  • Sabre vs katana? You mean the real weapons? Simple answer - the most experienced person will win. Both weapons are sharp metal things that will kill you. But agains any type of sword I'd prefer to carry a 9mm.

  • they've actually done fencing vs kendo lol. little trials. in all honesty. a sabre could defeat a katana just as easily imo.

  • Oh surely, Kendo is a Japanese fight stile, and you know, Japan was isolated for centuries so any arts of sciences were developing within themselves. While fencing has moves tested and tried pretty much around the entire world, so very efficient. I have done a little bit of fencing and kendo, and I find fencing to be much more effective and efficient than kendo.

  • thank you for the video. Pure Physical Chess. I used to do in college. I would be dead after one bout till 15 - it's very hard!

  • Good video!

  • You people are fucking stupid tbh. If u dont like the sport do what you like. We all have different needs and interests. I like women, USA3333 likes donkeys so let him... WHo cares.. I love fencing and i always will.

  • Your just pissed because you know you could never do it yourself.

  • Lol. Well I guess I can't get you to like it then. I have been in fencing for 5 years and have enjoyed it. It has taken me to the Canada Winter Games, Nationals twice and even a World Cup.

I wouldn't knock it until you try it USA3333, but if you do not enjoy it, I respect that. Please respect people who do though. It is harder then you think it is.

  • I think USA3333 is just trolling.

  • I would love to see you try it before you open your mouth

  • Come on...try it big-mouth!!!

But be careful that no one rips off your ass!!!

    Sucker!

  • USA, i would like to see you try

And i'm not surprised by your name...

    USA=stupid country

  • what do you do?

  • What is your problem with fencing?

  • O cretino!!! vai vai a spigare i campi!! deficente...

  • Wow, this is what Sabre fencing's all about!

  • Great clip! Great music and great fencing scenes!

Sabre is still the most interesting and fascinating weapon in fencing!

  • i totaly agree sabre aaf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • aye, aaf. some kid like chipped my elbow today in it.

  • um how?

    xxx

  • i was getting geared up and he swung and hit my elbow :/

  • that was smart :P

    you got msn?

    xxx

  • no, aim

  • total newbie?

    xxx

  • foils cool too. i do both

  • eh eh with the right music and good pic fencing become amazing!

  • After all I have written, I want to clarify that in the case of this video, the fencers are using their points often, appear to be using enough force in cuts and thrusts to evoke a wound, etc. I only note the scarcity of head attacks and the low carriage of the saber, far below the waist. Hardly a cavalry carriage! My old fencing maestro, long deceased was Pacific Coast Champ in Saber several times. He always described saber as "dismounted." The distance these two are fencing is very close.

  • It does seem like they're close, but it's not the way they're fencing.

I saw this video in the proper format and the distance was fine. The user changed the format so now it looks like they're fencing really close.

  • New English Americans spell it Saber. The Old English...or British spell it Sabre. Does it matter that much?

  • I suggest you look up the spelling - both are valid. The USFA uses saber. You seem unfamiliar with it so you can't know fencing very well.

I would love to "come out" just to show you what a foul mouthed psychotic you are. I am confident I could deal with you, but its not worth the trouble. I was a long time member - two decades - of one of the most famous clubs in the U.S. and was a top rated fencer. I have also taught a great deal over the years.

  • You are the one who seems like a newbe and here is why; you don't know that both spellings are valid and haven't even been on the USFA website to learn that - and you are easily upset. Becoming upset easily is a big problem if you hope to be a successful fencer. You will be taken apart by anyone with some bit of experience.

One point where you are a little correct; I am retired, so I have time to post on this site more than others perhaps.

  • jesus calm down wtf is wrong with u

so what he does research into it? maybe he might be interested? committed? maybe he has more than a pair of braincells to bash together?

who cares if u cant win thats the whole point of going and getting practice u tard

  • 94leinad94:

one: everyone who does a sport has a life, compared to people who don't do sports. prob. fat kids like yourself, sitting home in front of the tv or computer the whole day.

but yeah, some sports are really gay, like handball for one, but no.. sabre fencing def. isn't!

two: what's fun about going to a club and beating everyone?? the fun part is fencing with people your own level, and not against people who can't fence.!!
