Thank you for posting this. This was a song I had been searching for ever since I was a teenager. I remember as a child feeling so happy the donkey felt beautiful in his service. I am haunted by this song from my special childhood. Had it on the Very Merry Christmas album, and I must get a copy for my daughters. It tugged at my heartstrings back in the early 70's and still does now. Thank you for posting--I feel beautiful now. : )

This can be found on the "A Very Merry Christmas" album from 1971, made special for the old Grant's stores. I still have the copy from when I was a kid, we listened to this album alot while decorating the tree/house. You can find this album alot of times at Goodwill and ST.Vinny's. My parents had an old LP of Ed Ames I can still remember the cover dark red with christmas lights glowing behind Ed Ames...I have looked for that record in boxes and boxes of garage sales and thrift stores records. I never found it ....I have sang this to my children, wanting to share it but wondering if I had forgotten a verse. Someone web searched it for me awhile ago but only found that it existed basically. I haven't heard "THE BALLAD OF THE CHRISTMAS DONKEY" since I was a kid.

It was on a Chrismas album with many different celebrity singers.  It brings back so many memories and I love it!! I wonder if the song has been done since Ed Ames recorded it?? Thanks for the video...it was worth hearing and sharing!!
