I think it was pretty selfish of Roger to do that to the rest of the band. This is their lives, and what they love to do. He can't just take it away. Gilmour did the right move not letting the band die out
26:54 David Gilmour- "Roger would be driving it more than anyone else, mostly in it's dynamic range". Damn right Dave. Learn your place. Roger did more for Floyd than you could ever dream of doing.
@LizardKing625 Cool Story bro. Yes, Waters wrote most of the lyrics. But you seriously underestimating GIlmour's material that he wrote in Pink Floyd. 99% of Pink Floyd's Memorably guitar solos (After Piper at The Gates of Dawn) were written and played by Gilmour. Yes, Roger was the most enthusiastic member of the Pink Floyd, but saying that Gilmour didn't do much for Pink Floyd is TOTAL bs.
@xybecthegreat42q I'd like to think that Nick, Roger, Dave, Rick, and Syd were as a whole Pink Floyd. But if anyone is truly "Pink" it's Syd (they never would have begun or truly be "Pink Floyd" without him) or Roger (see Syd Barrett, only difference is that Roger was a far better writer and though Floyd would never have started without Syd. They never would've continued without Roger. So in all honesty, Roger is Pink Floyd. Which explains why I hardly consider the last 2 albums, real Floyd.
most awesome floyd story ever! even a non floyd fan could understand what took place.. I love the dark and light side! still today, the final cut has to be one of my favorite... very deep and double meaning...
It's sad that Gilmour refuses to play together as Pink Floyd now that Roger Waters has had a change of heart. They still sound amazing together, especially compared to many of their contemporaries who still play live (they sure aren't in their 20s or 30s anymore!) and I think they could still have creative potential together if they gave it the old English try, (or the old college try)!
all three are/were necessary in the band, Sid, Roger and Gilmour, altho i will admit, when Roger took over from 70-early 80's, i think they were at their best, my opinion tho
The BEST Documentary I have seen on Pink Floyd. Does anyone know if Gilmour , at the very end, says "ain't going to happen" or "anything can happen" about playing again with Roger Waters.? Could not understand exactly what Gilmour said.
@cadidliac I wodered the same thing and replayed it 10 times and I'm pretty sure he said "Aint gonna happen". Too bad I'd love it if they would. Roger Waters is playing next spring near me and I'm going but it's only The Wall. I'd love to hear some Dark Side, and Wish you were here, Have a cigar etc.
David gilmour WAS pink floyd. Roger waters and syd would have never went anywhere with what they were writing. they were underground till david replaced him and also gave them their trademark sound.none of their albums sold with syd as front man. they got famous only because of david and if you cant agree with that then you are not a true pp fan or a person who did not do their homework about the facts of the band...
@lollypopkyd I don't agree with you, Syd Barrett was Pink Floyd, David Gilmour just made Pink Floyd more famous. I believe if Syd Barrett hadn't become an acid causualty he would have been Pink Floyd, and maybe they wouldn't have made what they did if Barrett had stayed the frontman. I do believe you have a point though.
@RichWrightFloyd19 The Pink Floyd that I (and most fans) grew up loving was a colaborative effort between David, Roger, Nick, and Richard. Syd was the leader of the early band but that music was not what apealled to millions of fans. The Dark Side was the first huge album that was the beginning of the legendary rock band. What if's and could have beens don't count in reality. What counts is what Floyd DID achieve after Barret.
@lollypopkyd I definately agree. Rogers incredible lyric on DS aside, the guitar work of gilmour is easily the single most emotional part of floyd music and why I love the band so much. The guitar work on "Time"! Seriously leaves me speechless every time I hear it and I have listened to it probably 1000 times. A lot of my favorite stuff comes from Lapse of reason and Division Bell where Roger was gone. All band history aside, it's about the music. For me it's Gilmour absolutely no contest.
in my OPINION.....Pink Floyd Without Roger Waters, is like Aerosmith with Steven Tyler, or the Stone without Jagger ....Pink Floyd is/was a Unit. a certain Formula that created just the right chemistry as a whole. ..Seperate they are barely mediocre. United they are awesome.
@97warlock There is chemistry between certain bands that gets lost when they break up. Your examples are good ones, and also Guns & Roses. Genius together and pityful on their own, Van Halen too, and what about the bBackstreet boys w/out Justin Timberlake!!! TEEHEEHAHA
I don't hate roger as most people do. he's a great lyricist and it wouldn't have been pink floyd without him. that's all that needs to be said here. the music speaks for itself.
@BlackMaidenTallica Oh yes, Bob Klose. When Roger appeared on Jimmy Fallon, he said that Klose failed his first-year exams in school and was forced to leave the group by his parents.
There have been six men in Pink Floyd. Bob Close, Syd Barrett, Rick Wright, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and David Gilmour. It's such bullshit the people in charge of making music documentaries know less than the fans watching them. Bob's even in the photo at 2:21 for chrissake! Put people in charge who know their stuff and care about doing it right next time. I love the BBC but they can be unbelievably dumb at times.
I've watched so many videos, interviews, music videos, and pictures of all of them when they were young, I feel like that's how they still are, I feel like this is just them wearing a bunch of make up that makes them look really old....
@roachkin god damn me too :[ fuckin missed one of their last ones when i jus learned who they were. at that time i was into greenday and shit. ill never forgive myself
"wtf do u know, it was CRAP" --- this comes really from his heart ))
i really love how they openly talk about their pretty embarrassing self-consciousness fellings and very personal conflicts -- together with beatles and genesis they are definitely the greatest britisch rock bands to me!!!
what they say in the end is very characteristic, about "being a family or not" - waters says, anaytic as ever "i feel things for mum and brother that i do not feel for the floyd", and gilmour says "very much LIKE a family, and you get that wonderful HONESTY"...with the "honesty" clearly referring to waters....waters is surely the head of floyd, but gilmour was the heart as it seems....and waters forgot for a long time that head and heart congenially depend on each other
no one was pink their best stuff was not lead by anyone hence dsotm

I grew up well after their heyday, and still no band will ever mean as much to me as Floyd. What a legacy.

How the hell do they talk about Atom Heart Mother but they don't talk about Obscured by Clouds or Ummagumma. Those were their best early albums.
