He doesn't need his 30 seconds in this case. The girl has 9,5 minutes, and he gets ample time to figure out his next move in the time she spends thinking about her move.
@craik62 no i mean that vry few people can say they are better than some one else wich u do ! and who are u to say that ? u must be at least a GM and GM's are too humble to say that ! sorry for u but again ur an idiot
@glamourchick55 Maybe you are unaware that in chess the time is divided per side. So Carlsen has to complete his portion of the game in 30 seconds or less to win. So if a person says they are playing a 60 min game each side has 60 minutes. so the game could take 2 hours. A bit confusing to those unaware of chess culture
@GuardianValkyrie lol i got 3 moves ahead of a friend in a personal blitz game.... it was pretty funny.... and to be fair you cant wait for them to finish or you risk loosing too much time
The move 19.Qe6+ wasn't as stupid as it seemed. Yes, it obviously hanged the queen, but in blitz you can sometimes get away with it because the opponent instinctively tries to get out of the check by moving the king. Of course, Carlsen is too good for such cheat tricks, but hey, it was worth a try....
to the people saying magnus was rude, he really wasn't. he played his best, and he kept his eyes on the board for longer than he probably needed to. he could've played clumsily and still won or looked around for longer or, even worse, got up out of his chair and walked around.
Very nice to see Carlsen puts effort in making chess in his country more populair. And very brave in a way, to have a lot of patience. When his opponent is thinking about a move, he is already 10 moves ahead. He shows character.
magnus was obviously doing some thinking on the opponent's time, but the real reason he could play so well in half a second per move was because he knew the opening and some of the middlegame by heart(GMs memorize many positions). He could also play reasonable, good moves with his experience. Experience is the key to playing fast.
Why are people complaining he showed alot of respect to his young opponent there. He is an Elite player so has a reputation to keep up, and besides if he dilebrately played half assed that would be such an unfulfilling experience for that girl and would have shown disrespect.
im thinking the strategy of Magnus Carlsen was to do his "thinking" when the girl was planning out her moves. He used her own time against her. Brilliant. aka "kira" (thats what i say when i see an intelligent plan of that caliber) :D
@007VitaminD your a dumbass if you cant spell.... your, dumbass and can't haha and how am i supposed to remember something i probably typed months ago and you being the youtube troll that you are go and search for shit just to comment back and get attention for it. gtfo faggot get blocked... so are you mad kiddo?

@vinisparta Man, you dont know much about chess if you think this way. Check "Kasparov vs 13 year old. Who is this kid?". A mirror-like situation. Besides, going easy because there is a big gap between you and your rival means you lack respect for your oponent. This little girl will probably talk about her match against Carlsen for the rest of her life (unless she manages to become pro, then chances are this will be not her last game against him).
@vinisparta It does effect the game because you have less time to think. I dont think that Carlsen holds himself to a higher standard because he won. I think this vid was uploaded for novelty purposes, and certainly not by Carlsen.
I thought u have to wait till ur opponent pushes their clock button for their move to be totally complete before u touch ur pieces. Looks to me that magnus is using her time to make his moves for e.g. 3.g3 Nf6.
chess is a funny game. you feel so dumb when you lose. other sporting contests there can be luck/bad luck or other elements; wind/crowd against you. with chess its just your brain against someone elses brain. any attempt at humility by the victor has no reassuring effect on the loser. this game was the equivalent of that little girl getting in the ring with mike tyson! good on both for playing tho. funny at the end. theres is only one move she can make but still take 30secs to make it... heh
@redshark618 totally agree... he finishes his move just before she presses her clock then all he has to do is press his clock... is that legal? his clock would be registering about .3 of a second for each move... or however long it records, its wont reflect the full time it actually took him to make his move... when your opponent is looking around for something more interesting is annoying too... heh...
@zzzzzzzzzz098 No, the dream of many of us chess players is to get a chance to play AGAINST elite players, even if we know beforehand that we are going to be crushed. Big players are not going to go easy on us, and that is the way we average players want things to be.

@JustCrowned You should watch the youtube video: /watch?v=lD333XXEKu0&feature=related in that Magnus is 13, and plays Kasparov, the greatest player of the last 30 years, just after beating Karpov. In the game vs Kasparov, and he manages to draw which is an incredible freat. In the middle of the game, Magnus is literally walking around and looking at other tables because he is bored while Kasparov was thinking intensely about the game.
@analyticannoyance Magnus is great, but you need to understand that chess is greatly influenced by studying your opponents previous matches and learning his preferred patterns. This is why Kasparov is still considered the best ever because he never played Magnus on even grounds; he was just too old and out of it. Same applies with Karpov. Still Magnus might be the best now, or maybe Anand...
@Thebhn7 I never thought about that. good point I was just trying to point out that if Magnus gets bored playing Kasparov, and gets up and walks around, what hope does this little girl have in keeping his attention?
@JustCrowned I took note of that, too, but it made me chuckle. I don't know how strong that girl was, but 99.99% of the world's kids his age would've been a joke for him to play. I don't think Magnus meant anything by it, it's just that that game must've been like sleepwalking for him.
I'm amazed at all the "unfriendly" remarks posted here. Why not just look at this as what it really is: a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the little girl? Those of you who want to see what Magnus is good for should look elsewhere.
she was taking forever, its a 30 second match, nobody wins by checkmate in those, just make fast moves, faster than your opponent, it doesnt matter where.

@MajorFacepalm12 Totally. He should start playing starcraft 2 to make money on the side. Maybe handicap matches where boxer gives him a 30 second head start.
@varishnakov a 17 year old bobby fischer could, besides carlsen is already 21, he is very young but not a little kid like when he became gradmaster(13); besides Fischer dindt had any trainers and he became grandmaster at 15 all by himself, Carlsen was trained by the best player of his country:P
@varishnakov nah, i dont think so, you have to remember that Fischer defeated all the masters of his time and also Fischer has the second highest winning percentage of all world champions in history(i think that only Capablanca or Alekhine has a highest percentage).Short says to have faced Fischer on internet(i think that in chesscube)and have been defeated by Fischer 8-0;and Nigel Short is modern player even younger than Kasparov,i think that Kasparov and Short have the same level:p

@MajorFacepalm12 Totally. He should start playing starcraft 2 to make money on the side. Maybe handicap matches where boxer gives him a 30 second head start.

Dude, Magnus is so bored with his opponent that he's barely even paying attention to what he's doing.

can a 7 year old bobby fisher beat this carlsen guy????
Hazedream 3 months ago
@Hazedream No. A 27 year old Bobby Fischer could, however.
varishnakov 3 months ago 2
@varishnakov a 17 year old bobby fischer could, besides carlsen is already 21, he is very young but not a little kid like when he became gradmaster(13); besides Fischer dindt had any trainers and he became grandmaster at 15 all by himself, Carlsen was trained by the best player of his country:P
uchihadante77 3 months ago
@uchihadante77 Perhaps a 17 year old Fischer could beat him once given enough chances, but he would obviously be destroyed in a match.
varishnakov 3 months ago
@varishnakov nah, i dont think so, you have to remember that Fischer defeated all the masters of his time and also Fischer has the second highest winning percentage of all world champions in history(i think that only Capablanca or Alekhine has a highest percentage).Short says to have faced Fischer on internet(i think that in chesscube)and have been defeated by Fischer 8-0;and Nigel Short is modern player even younger than Kasparov,i think that Kasparov and Short have the same level:p
