This is the fucking best Synopsis ever!!!!! i cant stop watching this it is just so great! i have learnt so much from this and it has changed me. i am now a better person and i love my life, last week i was going to kill my cat, but after this great synopsis i have decided otherwise. Thank you once again this is a lifechanging experience such a good video such a good year.
I didn't like this, I feel you probably could have done a better job. Not with the presentation, that was excellent but with the information, I felt that, that could have been more. Like perhaps what every character represents and what every event represent. The Windmill- Stalin's five year plan, The Farmhouse- The Kremlin, Fredrick- Hitler, Mr. Jones- The last Tsar Nicholas II, The Hens- The Ukrainian Peasants ect.
stalin was the worst leader a country can have...he was worse than hitler..he killed so much more ppl than hitler did..dont get me wrong..hitler was awful like stalin..but since stalin was around more he had done worse...the war between these 2 was none for me to root for..both were terrible nations at this time..in fact, it would have been better if hitler got rid of stalin AND THAN we defeated nazi germany and destroyed hitler
@burgersforreal Totally agree with you. Stalin was much worse then Hitler. We know who Hitler hated and who he wanted to get rid of but Stalin was sneakier and much more sinister. What he did to his own people, men, women and children, is beyond despicable. I don't think words can describe how heinous Stalin (Uncle Joe) was to humanity.
Ifh, the way you think is probably the problem. In my estimation, your paternalistic philosophy is looking for a hero in a paternal type Govt that Lennin was offered the people. But you must understand that the Czar was also a paternalist. Maybe I should make my own video, but commenting on this one doesn't make me blind to what I see from "you people". Let's just face the truth, this video says Stalin did all the atrocity, which is false, a lie and someone needs to say something. Lennin wasbad
Um..you are white washing Lennin...it was Lennin who violently overthrew a democratically elected govt. The Czar had capitulated. It was Lennin who had the Czar and his family shot in their basement in fron of a firing sqaud. It was Lennin who jailed poets, military, sent them to Gulags, mass mudered Kulaks. Marx didn't invision any Utopia, he only tore down Capitalism and Democracies. Lennin instituted the secret police. War broke out in Poland, not Stalingrad. This synopsis is rubbish.
I don't think anything is whitewashed here. It's a brief overview, and a really good, simple introduction to the book and the violent regimes of the 20th century. Very good video. Anyone who wants to focalise on one point or another can go make their own video.
How about democratic, capitalistic despotism?? At the end of the story when the animals are looking at the pigs and the humans they can hardly distinguish which is which, same as now, you and I are owned, its all about money..
Is that what you learned from Orwell, to protect yourselves from all oppressive despots? Huh, that's funny...I learned that Socialism whether it comes from Russia Germany or any other area creates despotism. And don't be a neophyte and take umbrage at the word socialist, that some low browed neanderthals dreamt of in the mid 19th century to cover up totalitarian, collectivism and statism. I learned from Orwell to protect your individuality, and not to be a jackass prolitariate like Benjamin.
I know about this alright,I learned about in my American Govt class,we read the book and saw the movie! If we're not careful something like that could happen here in the USA!
the winter wasnt Hitlers undoing it was the fact that Stalin and his generals moved his army in the east to the west after he figured out japan wasnt going to to attack that army freed Moscow and worked its way down
Stalin wasnt the front runner his nick name in this time was the Grey blur y would a front runner have a nick name like that. Stalin didnt have a close relationship with Lenin he was shown to through propaganda. Stalin had killed all the orgianal Bolsheviks by 1939 inside Russia and had Trotsky killed in 1940 that was a hole 12 years after he came to power
sorry i am doing this at the mo in college a few things i picked up on Nicholas II wasnt over thrown he abdicated. the hammer and cycle wasnt to represent the workers the hammer represented the worker the syical was for the farmers due to them being the biggest population group and Lenin recongised this as the biggest revolutionary group, stalin wasnt trusted in fact towards the end of Lenins life he wrote he would rather Stalin be dead than take control of Russia.
i always felt bad for the horse but if you boil it down the motherfucker was just too stupid to realize he'd been sold shit and ate it up like it was sirloin.
and are you a horse or do you see the similarities in what is happenening in America and other so called free democracies? because Americans and mos countries in the world are living out this same old tired story that has been on a cycle of opressors and revolutions since the birth of agriculture
You may not like the President, but the fact is America became Manor Farm LONG ago. The lesson of Animal Farm has little to do with communism, but rather with revolution in general. I'll bet that if the "pigs" of the American Revolution (Jefferson, Washington, Adams, etc.) set in a room with the British after their revolution, the animals wouldn't be able to tell them apart either.
The lesson is that revolutions tend not to ever lead to real change. I'd hardly call Obama a revolution.
so... if i'm understanding you correctly, you believe art that requires thought, art that demands careful analysis, art that refuses to cater to the lowest common denominator should not only be ignored but should simply cease to exist because it makes you uncomfortable. interesting point, "thegangbang"... interesting point.
Is it possible to download this video on my computer? I'm an English teacher and I'd like to show it to my students because they're reading "Animal Farm".

How can I burn your video to dvd (as one person commented)? I would like to share it with my English class if you don't mind. We do not have access to YouTube at school anymore.
it's a pretty small file, so i could send it to you through an email. just send your email address to my inbox. make sure it's an email account that can accept attachments of more than 4mb.
yes, marx was a philosopher. i used the word "economist" as it is a term used in various sources to describe his work in developing economic theories.
I definitely thought that Old Major was supposed to be Lenin. Both promised a better future for their country/farm. A power struggle erupted after lenin's death (Trotsky vs. Stalin) and a power struggle erupted after Major's death (Snowball vs. Napoleon)
Old Major is a synthesis of Lenin and Marx...if you look there are similarities to both. Although to be, during Stalinist Russia I would say Lenin took on the same role of Marx...
Old Major-Karl Marx Mr. Jones-Czar Nicolas II Napoleon-Josef Stalin Snowball-Leon Trotsky Boxer and Clover-The Proletariat (working class) Squealer-Pravda The Dogs-KGB (secret police) Pigs-Communist party members Mollie-Russian Aristocracy hurt by the Revolution Moses-Eastern Orthodox Church Muriel-Educated class Benjamen-Old Russians reluctant to embrace the revolution Pigeons-External propoganda for Europe Frederick-Germany Pilkington-Great Britain Sheep-Russain general public
The hard working horse was the peasant class of which millions were shipped to Russian concentration work camps or killed like the horse to the glue factory. The building of the windmill was part of the 5 year plan by Stalin.
snowball is trotsky, chased out of the counrty by napoleon, stalin. stalin chased trotsky out because he was his opposition and stalin got rid of everyone who opposed him
Wen snowball was run off of the farm, not only represented Leon Trotsky being exiled from Russia, but it represented Russia's loss of decent and good intentioned leaders.
Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four were both based on the Russian Revolution, and both had a similarly bleak ending. The difference is, 1984 was more litteral, whereas Animal Farm is an alagorical fable for the entire history of the revolution. Winston Smith's joib was to change the past (Specifically, old newspaper articles).
You mentioned trotsky as stalin's enemy but not that he was his oppenent in the struggle for control of the government. You mentioned the secret police but not the animal(s) that represented them (Napoleans puppies?) who is squealer? Lenin? The horses, donkey, and other animals? Well done but could be more detailed!
And why use Stalin's picture as an example of Lenin's trusted advisors? Stalin had a minor role to play before and after the revolution, you had so many to choose from, Zinoviev, Trotsky, Kamenev, etc. Stalin's "former friend"! Trotsky was never Stalin's friend, they were colleagues yes, but not friends. But yeah, you've pointed out how Stalin turned into a capitalist, he lived the life of a bourgeoise, summer houses, servants, banquets, the ability to oppress the workers.
About 50 seconds into that video, there is a picture of a black hammer and sickle inside a circle, I would like to point out that that does not symbolise communism, marxism, socialism. It symbolises National Bolshevism, a form of Fascism if you like. They claim to support communism and nationalism, two contradictory ideals.
Pretty good, but it seems to be more of a history of the Rusian Revolution alone than the link between the Russian Revolution and Animal Farm (and later 1984)...still, pretty good.
Where do the Mesheviks, SRs, Cadets and etc. fit in here? What part was the Russian Civil War? Or the Polish-Soviet War? Oh and why do you use the doctored photo of Lenin with Stalin as proof they Stalin was a top aid?
Good questions. I can answer the first 3 questions by saying that those different elements are not overtly touched upon in the novel Animal Farm. Also, for the sake of brevity I left out some of the more complex issues. This video was designed more as a primer than an in-depth analysis, hence the 4:39 running time. As for the doctored photo, good catch. I had no idea that was the case. Or maybe I did... hmmm... nope, I didn't.
Funny they made us watch this video in school. You should sue MCPS.
