  • Certainly one of the best performances of Adrienne B.'s career.

  • i loved this movie especially the ending it's good that blake got to have his revenge

  • 7:57 the doctor was called Dr Phibes, nice tribute to Vincent

  • I probably shouldn't of done but think I first saw this on tv when i was like 8. Tho it was probably edited back then even tho it was on late. The ending always stuck with me as ultra cool. And I think I'd have to agree is my fav movie ending ever to this day. Even if not the tone, the style of the ending has been used many times by film makers since. Same as a lotta the techniques layed out in Halloween have...John Carpenter rules :o)))

  • One of the greatest horror films ever. Every Hollywood chump director who thinks he or she could make a legitimate horror movie should watch this, and see how its done.

  • Great film - atmospheric and scary

  • an underrated horror movie, skip the terrible remake with tom welling.one of carpenters top in my opinion with the thing, escape from new york, starman, halloween. big trouble in little china and they live.

  • And i thought the church was a holy ground where man sees no evil under god's protection.

  • The shot at 1:16 was one added later because Carpenter was told the movie wasn't scary enough in light of the then-popular Friday the 13th franchise.

I think it's stupid and unnecessary and that Carpenter shouldn't have relented. The scariest monsters are never fully revealed.

  • the music is eerie and amazing and the crew of the Elizabeth Dane returned back to the depths by spivey point. Thanks for posting this

  • Carpenter truly was king back then. This film has such an amazing atmosphere.

  • This, and the Sea Grass sequence, are my top views in this excellent movie. As a lot of folks here have already said, they just don't make chillers like this any more!

  • I keep meaning to watch this film again. Do you know John Carpenter had to do the music again for this film? The first draft of it from what John said didn't sound right so he decided to do it all again from scratch. He got the idea for The Fog when he was at Stonehenge. He pictured what it would be like with fog coming out of nowhere etc and then he couldn't wait to write the film.

  • what does the voice say when the fog goes away (a short after blake dissapears with the cross)?

  • My dad used to tell me about this ending when I was a boy (thanks dad!), and I have to admit its a damn scary way to end a damn scary film!

  • remakes suck ass!!!

  • I agree. The remake to Piranha was bloody awful and there was too much footage from the 1978 version in the remake. The only remakes I do like are the old remakes like Ben-Hur, Scarface and The Thing. Not to mention Heat was another good one and Michael Mann directed that as well as the old version.

  • That's usually true, but keep in mind that John Carpenter's The Thing was a remake and was far superior to the original.

  • The Fog & Halloween are my two favorites from Carpenter. I also like They Live aswell. Carpernter is the master of Horror next to Wes Craven, Cliver Barker & Stephen King.

  • einer der besten filme unserer zeit, schade das sowelche filme nicht mehr gemacht werden... für leute die noch nicht gesehen haben unbedingt den original 1979 ansehen,am besten im dunkeln !!! viel spass

  • great movie..nice music during the credits..

  • The part where Adrienne Barbeau almost slides off the lighthouse still makes my palms sweat!

  • I think the part where you just see her legs trying to scramble upwards, that is actually Debra Hill the producer who worked with John Carpenter.

  • Yes, she was a frequent stand-in. I believe it was actually her arm (young Michael Myers) that held the knife in the opening scene in "Halloween."

  • You live and learn :-)

  • freekyest movie ever!

John Carpenter is the Einstein of horror

  • Carpenter was a genius with his music and what he could do,props.

    These were awsomoe movies......

  • The new one is so shitty.

  • the remake was shit!

  • That is so true!

  • Remake of "the Fog" has a score of 3.0 / 10.0 that is very very bad.

Remake of "Psycho" is one of the worst Movies ever made and has a Score of 4.0

Carpenter Win , The Fog (1980) is still better.

  • I remember this on HBO back in the day scary as hell,JC is a master at what he does and lets not forget Holloween, the music erie like this one,no remakes please!

  • Still stands up with all carpenter flicks

seems even better now i think: cold &

    dark!!

  • I watched this the First Time as a Kid when my Family and i makes Holiday at the North See and you could Imagine what was out there at the Sea... FOG

Still one of THE Best Horrormovies EVER!!!

  • Agree - todays horror films are shittier than a barn full of cows - nothing but slash/gore - a good horror film feeds on our deepest fears and what surrounds us.

  • I like the ending of the Fog too and where this movie was filmed is so beautiful.

TheHarperad , JC's other movie you can watch is the original 1978 Halloween check it out it's his greatest movie. :)

  • paste this to 2 other videos

go to your channel and see your comments

    JUST DO IT IT'S SCARY!!

(omg I was SHOCKED when I saw my comments

  • The Thing was up aganist ETin 1982,The Thing is a great damn movie hands down screw the critics

  • Agreed!

  • The synth score at 6:52-7:10 is quite effective. It suggests a slow build-up of suspense.

  • Does anyone know if there are any other good "ghost-ship-themed" horrormovies out there?

All I can find are the Fog-remake and "Ghost Ship", which are both.... well... not THAT good in my opinion :/

  • Too bad the The Thing was a box office failure, and the critics tore it to shreds upon release.

  • Really? Wow i thought the Thing was one of the best interpretations of an original horror film. I thought it was great as hell, and creepy. Especially where the men first get a dark look of it in the Huskey pen.

  • Damn, this is a John Carpenter film too? huh, I should've known. It's awesome.

  • I've never seen a J.Carpenter film before, I got attracted to The Fog by the music score found on the net. Could you recommend something?

  • Well, this one, Halloween, Escape From New York, It's sequel Escape from LA, Assault on precinct 13, The Thing, Christine, Big trouble in Little China (though this one isn't a horror movie, it's kicks major ass nonetheless :).)

You can't go wrong with any of those. Just whatever you do...stay away from Ghosts of Mars.

  • Gotta be halloween, the original - check it out

  • excellant carpenter. love the sound of blakes sword. very jumpy ending. love john carpenters films. all classics. my favorites are. the fog. escape from new york. halloween. the thing. christine. all excellant flicks.
  • excellent.

  • the great makeup artist rob bottin plays blake, this is when he and carpenter decide to do the thing and make movie history....

  • Very well pointed out my friend...Rob Bottin is legendary

  • I sincerly hope John Carpenter has a star on the walk of fame for all his movies. This movie and The Thing, still can scare the crap outta me on the right night:)

  • The Thing is one of the best films ever made. He better fucking have a star on the walk of fame.

  • This movie gave me chills, but out of fright. I was surprised how eerily effective the music, the great suspense, and the unknown heightened the fright factor. Real creepy movie. I contemplated seeing The Thing but i didnt, hahah or else i wouldnt have been able to sleep.

  • creepy-ass music, datz fo' shizzle.

  • Speaking of which, the incidental score heard at 06:58-07:10 was particularly effective.

  • The whole movie is upload again or for first time? I dont know, but i could see the film finally and its a great Carpenter movie !!! It scares me 2-3 times! When i was watching the remake i nearly fell asleep !

  • Why can't Hollywood leave good movies alone. This one is was (and still is) great. the new version sucks.

  • WHY ? Its simple. Hollywood is trying to make money with remakes like that! And they dont care of the result. Good or bad, doesent matter. What is counting for them is only the MONEY !!! In the last years Hollywood was making a lot of TRASH remakes like that !!!

  • Yeah man a Carpenter Classic.

Wish he would do another movie with

    Kurt Russel.

    Cheers Man

    Martez

  • awesomw movie classic the remake garbage come on waste of time

  • Carpenter is a master of the horror genre. The Fog is really a unique ghost story with an intelligent selection of actors that really bring this film to life.

  • i remember watching this when i was younger and thinking blake and his men were fucking bad boys

  • 2:16 So fake.

  • awesome movie watched the thing blu-ray last night 5/5 stars

  • 7:18

  • geil *******************

  • I knew we forgot something! 7:06

  • blake looks pretty menacing with his sword, and that final head chop struck with devastatung consequences .

  • TAKE ME!!!!

  • I adore this movie, i've watched it so many times lately, it's rediculous ;D

  • I love this movie. Carpenter is one of my all time favorite directors. The ending to this movie is great.

  • One of the best endings in a horror movie. When you think everything is going to be ok, the priest gets his head chopped off.

  • I bought this movie two weekends ago, it's so good. Very sad that it wasn't as popular in it's time but i love it. Thanks for posting this.

  • 1:46! Carpenters a genius!

  • This is the ultimate classic horror movi; seriously, Adrienne Barbeau's speech at the end...

  • I heard that was the most mermoable part of the movie when it came out. (I'm only 19 so i wouldn't know ^-^)

  • blake the deadly pirate come back for his treasure arrgh

  • LOL XD Arrrgh!

  • I still think this ones better then the new one.

  • Yeah - take THAT, Antonio Bay.

  • The ending did make sence because Blake came back to kill 6 people for revenge, it even said it on the wooden plank earlier on in the movie, Father Malone was the sixth one to be killed. If you have watched the whole of this movie you will understand what im on about. And they were not wrestling for the cross, they were getting burnt by it.

  • Why are you here if most of your comments are negative? Don't waste your time here!

  • Carpenter films are not silly in my opinion, i like his horror movies because they create alot of fear and suspence. But i do not agree with The Fog being beter than The Thing, i think The Thing is his best film :D

  • Well, Halloween I and II really did reshape the horror/slasher movie genre big time. He used a lot of tripy camera angles and spooky POVs and dollying effects to create a frieghtening atmosphere in place of lots of fake blood and flying limbs. So yes not all of his movies are silly, but I think he's got quite a few mistakes too.

  • Prince Of Darkness,Big Trouble In Little China,They Live,Halloween are great movies.Seen them?

  • I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS AND JOHN C IS MY favorite HORROR WRITER EVER LIFE IS STRANGE 1 DAY SHOULD i WATCH THE OLD OR THE NEW

i AM KIND OF IN BETWEEN THE YEARS PROB WOULD BE MORE INTO THE MODERN ONE???

  • No. The new one is really not good. Watch this.

  • Brilliant movie. As effective now as the day it was made. Simple, eerie and frightening with an atmosphere that would be hard to better. One of John Carpeners better movies, the other being Starman.

  • I love this movie. Love John Carpenter. Love the fact that he scores his own movies. The music is this scene is so simple, beautiful and eerie. Brilliant ending.

  • It's possible that there a new "THE fOG Movie"??? by Italian guys.I hope wrong.I found this teaser...but maybe it's a joke.

  • i'm watching this movie almost 20 years, and is the greatest movie i've ever seen

  • remakes of john carpenter's films are never good only halloween was good i liked that remake

  • yeh i really liked the remake too, but it still didn't beat the original.

  • i remember watching this great movie with my ex girlfriend. we were sitting side by side, i slowly put my arm around her and tipped on her shoulder... she jumped up from the couch and screamed in fear, HAHAHA. i pissed my pants laughing my ass off. that was so great!

but indeed carpenter knew what it takes to create pure horror!

  • carpenter is a genius. Carpenter proved how people could unite against the evil from outside

  • you say the truth ! the remake sucks! bit this video is fantastic

  • The best thing about this film, just like the original Halloween, is that not much is known about those that lurks in the shadows. That for me is the scariest thing in any situation-- been preyed upon by an unknown attacker, and not knowing why.

Sure, something is explained, but the focus is on the story, and how the characters react to it, instead of wasting time into explanations that only slow down the narrative and suspense. That was what the remake lost... and more.

  • This movie was so awesome! I've never seen anything like this in my whole life! And tha's the best thing! This movie gives us something new instaid of the same! I can say this is truly the best horror film ever made!

  • 1:06 to 1:20 - This part scared the shit of me when I first saw it. Just seeing Blake walking slowly towards you with his red eyes was like seeing the boogeyman coming for you.

  • I saw this last night on IFC. I live in Northern California and the shots of the town when night falls was awesome. That area is a very creepy place at night.

  • Man I Know Blake...Rob Is A Cool Mo-Fo Man!!

He's Talked about some shit that make you laugh

  • fucking love this film i can watch it over and over again the remake was fucking shit didnt do it any justice at all im suprised john carpent was envolved with the remake !

  • One of my favorite ending when father malone turns around and gets his throat slashed classic. The remake was a piece of shit I can't stand it. Pretty all remakes are shit except maybe Rob Zombie's Halloween but that's it.

  • i agree atleast rob zombie did a decent job ( it could have been beter) but the remake of the fog just sucks.

  • the remake was horrid. not even a cameo from one of the original cast either...but then again who could blame them? this original film is classic, it features so many of my favorite actresses: Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Curtis, Janet Leigh and even Nancy Loomis.

  • It's funny that the Malone says "Take me!" and then in one of the outtakes on the DVD, the actor accidentally says "Why not SEX, Blake, why not me?"

  • Probably one of Adrienne B.'s best performances.

  • Omg! The FOG!! I saw this when I was 7-8! Totally scared the shit out of me! And it's still do! Yet a classic movie from the respectable director!

The movie deserves the best even though it's...28 years from now!

The remake was bullshit! Booo! Go back where you came from, bitch!

Thanks for uploading! Great movie ever!

  • Did anyone notice that they ended WRONG TURN in a similar fashion for the last kill of the movie?

  • Excelente película. Me encanta John Carpenter, realmente la tiene muy, pero muy clara. La escena de la cruz sobrecalentándose ante el contacto con los muertos-vivos es impresionante. Muchas gracias por subir parte de esta peli!!!

  • Thanks for the upload.

  • Your welcome!

  • I just love this movie John Capenter seems to have a great mind for horror movies thanks for posting this up I love the remake of this but this one here was just awesome!!!

  • There was a remake.....Being sarcastic!

  • LOL, Your silly...

  • Hey....there's a fog bank out there...

  • Underrated classic from the 70s/80s!

  • i remember the first time i saw this film, i was about 8 and my mum didnt think i would be scared. I spent the rest of my formative years running home when it was foggy outside lol film still scares the shit out of me now!!! one of my fave films, remake was crap

  • bloody underrated carpenter movie

  • Is that Leo Sayer, one of the fishermen who gets killed at sea?

  • Good old fashioned spook story.

The previous comment about atmosphere is spot on and is the exact ingredient that all contemporary horror movies lack when compared to this. They show you everything too soon, no suspense or slow build up. Just bullshit cgi and cheap thrills.

  • One of the best films ever. Great atmosphere.

  • "Why not six, Blake. Why not me?" *WHOOSH*!!!!! Well he did ask for it. So...

I guess Blake forgotten about it. XD!! Returned to claim his revenge!! Brilliant! This movie did scare the shit out of me when I was a child. Damn! Great movie!

  • I thought Blake wanted the gold!

  • great ....really great i love carpenter' s work....

  • "why not six, blake why not me?"--- WHOOSH!!!!!!!

  • In the scene where they show the lighthouse after the bar scene there is someone walking around the outside of the lighthouse. Does anyone know why or who it is? The Directors commentary doesn't even mention it.

  • it scared the shit out of me when i was a child.

  • carpenter made this movie for less than a million dollars. it grossed more than 100 million. Pretty good, his best work.

  • it grossed 20 million actually just thought id let u know there

  • it did not gross that, at that time it was not that successful, then people realized how good that movie was.

  • Great film. best thriller ever

dont aprove of the 2005 version though

  • I agree. This is a classic. The remake sucked ass.

  • great film great music, not to be watched alone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love the droning synths as Father Mallone struggles with the cross, awesome!

  • the ending is up there with Prince of Darkness, The thing abd Hallowwen 1 and 3... great movies..

  • Great movie with a brilliant music score.

  • John Carpanter is Brilliant!

  • the fog is a great horror movie,it may be old but it is still very good

  • ne kadar salak bi film bu yaw

  • the best classic horror!!!!MY favor! never boring!! hihihi LOVE"it: U:S:A=THE GREATEST ENTERTAIMENT!! ON EARHT!! WITH OUT YOU?? NO FUN ON THE PLANET!!!!!FROM:GYPSEY"LOVE!= I"MISS THE US!<<<<<<<<<<<< GOD BLESS

  • Its nice to see a mother-daughter team in this film! Ja Its the best film I've seen in years. Also the first time I saw Jamie Lee Curtis star with her mom. This original version of "The Fog" was the best. The more recent released version of "The Fog" I found out to be a bust Sometimes you can't copy or reproduce the success of the original.

  • this was my childhood church, nice to see it :)

  • Been back there after this was filmed? Dunno if I'd have the nerve!

  • This is such a great movie...

    One of my FAVORITES...

    John Carpenter is really AWESOME...

  • Creepy and unexpected? Yes.

But best (horror) film ending ever?

Well, I think that title would go to either Carrie (Sue's nightmare at Carrie's grave) or, without question, The Fury (John Cassavetes' head explodes). The head exploding thing was friggin shocking and totally unexpected!

  • His chest and torso combusted/exploded and his head went rocketing into the air. There was a lot of fire and sparks, little blood.

  • thank you john

  • a.q itleri

  • oha :D

  • I love this movie, Visually, The Fog is a Carpenter masterpiece, absolutely beautiful to behold, but this doesn't mean that The Fog is lacking in visceral thrills. While there's nothing explicitly shown in the movie, the ghostly crew of the Elizabeth Dane are a vicious lot!

  • I forget what i used to cut the film now but to get the film from dvd to mp4 i used 'Super' video converter. You can then get mp4 splitters and save chunks of film.

  • Thanks, man.

  • Hey manicminer2010, how d'you manage to do that, cut in the film and take a part away from it? Which equipment do you need?

I'm thinking about uploading the beginning of this movie.

Or maybe you could do that? From the very beginning to the end of these long starting titles - after the card "Directed by John Carpenter"?

One of the longest film titles in history.

  • This is a great ending, very memorable and why didn't the remake have this ending. Great editing as \blake kills the priest for stealing the gold that was rightfully his. One of the best horror endings....EVER

  • But the priest was the grandson! Why pay for his grandfather's mistake?

  • Because the ghosts desperately want revenge and the descendants are the next best thing. Better than random people i guess - although i thought all the rest WERE random people... idk .

  • Yeah the thing i love about JC's movies is that there is always one final scare and mindf**k that leaves you thinking long after the credits have rolled. Truly a master of horror.

  • The original is always better than the remake. This of course is the original.

  • Something very noticeable about many of these older horrors is the general age of the actors. Today's horrors are all screaming teens, pop-culture references and dark, silly humour. The old stuff was far superior with their use of seasoned, mature actors and scripts that treated the material seriously.

  • Agreed! Pop-culture-infested crapflicks!

  • Oh nevermind. I hate remakes either way in movies. There is such a thing as creativity I believe, and current producers need to take a lesson on how to remind themselves of it while they continually target messing up classics and the like.

  • I will second that!!

  • these days "horror film directors" (if that's what you want to call them) confuse Horror, Suspense, and Terror with Creepy, Gory , and Predictable. These "horror" directors, seem to forget the sheer horror that made us lose sleep at night from films like this. I mean have you seen the remake of "Black Christmas"? No horror, no suspense, just gore, gore gore. I just think people should stop makin horror films unless the acting is good, music is good, and most importantly, THE PLOT MAKES SENSE.

  • I totally agree with you, john1980.

The problem is, "horror directors" today don't care how really effective their films may be, they just do it for the money.

  • thanks. for a second there i thought i was the only horror film fan who thought this

  • check out my horror movie trailer and tell me what you think!

  • It does bug me how people believe they can remake certain films and assume they are going to better than the original. Some films (which were crap anyway, maybe), but not a film like this! How can the atmosphere of this film be bottled and used again?? No way!

  • The Remake of this movie sucked The classic was good but it lacks anything terrifieng in todays modern world maybe if somone tried to Remake it again with a actual good cast that dosn't include those lousy teen actors and maybe somthing that could terrify today's people

  • Blake's glowing red eyes were about the freakiest/coolest part of the film. Trivia: Blake was played by Rob Bottin who is a special effects artists. He also did the effects for The Thing (1982)

  • i wanna kno the musical instrument John Carpenter uses for his music. as u may notice, john carpenter is my favorite director that i named my username after him
