@ManDudeYeah have you any idea how difficult it is to correctly play the piece fingerstyle?.......let alone slap the piece? Marcus is a master at his craft and while he could have easily played the piece fingerstyle, he payed real homage to Jaco by interpreting the piece using his own voice! What makes a musician great is when they can use the voice that they have developed and pay tribute to their influences...........its not a competition but growth.
@bayce3 You don't know shit. I do know how to play bass and can play anything Marcus Miller can do. Jaco is way better. And Victor Wooten is the best alive. Those guys are the REAL giants.
@ManDudeYeah look man i wan't slamming you. I have been a professional bassist for nearly 25 years and i don't get hired to "sound like Marcus Miller" or "Play anything Marcus Miller can do!" I KEEP getting hired because i use the voice that I have developed through hard work in the shed and I deliver what the track needs. I know a whole lot of out of work "sound alikes" who never get hired because they have nothing original to say on their instruments. I'm happy that you can play bass! Great!
taste has nothing to do with being able to play fast. if you were a real (jazz-) bassist you'd knew that. your opinion is just ridiculus... go and play with your toys, stupid kid...
@ManDudeYeah Almost every studiobassist or jazzbassist I've met doesn't like Wooten. And you can't compare Jaco to Marcus. Marcus is THE funkmeister, Jaco is THE jazzmeister. Wooten mix them both with his own style. He would be nothing without Jaco, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Larry Graham. And I realize this even if he is my favourite player.
@62erPrecision I think it just shows marcus' interpretation and if anything adds more beef to it. It would be boring if he tried to be the same as jaco
and im talking about this song in particular not as bassist, cuz jaco shits on everybody. they are in seperate leagues. u cant compare them too much they are in 2 seperate leagues of there own.
i love both bassist, just because the original Is the best which it is. u have to atleast give miller props becauser his was the shit too. not the best but it is good
o.O the tone of his bass at the end is just amazing ! <3

@bayce3 Very true, and perfectly put.

You can compare if you choose, but I think Marcus plays tribute to Jaco, as he sometimes does with Stevie Wonder or Miles. Either way he's shit hot.

I liked Marcus' slap thing, but as saxchik55 said you can't compare Pastorius with Miller. They're both in their own leagues.

this isnt the original. the original is better. Teen town by Weather Report
BradWhite47 3 years ago
yes, i know,i think jaco pastorius was the best bass player of all time.
ErPuPoDeRoMa95 3 years ago
agreed :)
BradWhite47 3 years ago
Technically, really not. But feeling-wise he was the man.
bububuvard 2 years ago
But if you think about it, all the best musicians weren't technically the best, like Miles' tone or Dizzy's air stream. But they could play.
