Have you had any issues with the saw-dust bag not collecting the dust? I talked to Makita and they indicate it could be a design flaw. I found it a little misleading having a bag on there that does nothing. Otherwise the saw is a good product. Here's mine on youtube: Makita LS1016L Miter Saw Dust Bag Failure
your motor is gone one of the fields is burn and that is because lack of power supply, if you are sharing the same line with other tools like a vacuum, table saw , dust collector sanders etc, the saw is not getting enough power or your extension cord is too long and thin. Makita has the best miter saws
@alexmazariegos Totally agree with this comment. I had a similar problem on my Hitachi mitre saw and changed the motor and bushes but still had the same problem. Everytime I take the motor out to inspect it on of the "fields" was damaged or burnt out. Very annoying when your trying to get your work done. I just binned that saw as I couldnt be bothered to waste more money on it (it was old) and am looking into the Makita LS1216L.
Thanks for the advice. I had checked the brushes and they looked brand new. I was careful about pushing the saw too hard too. I sent the saw to the Makita factory service center and they fixed it...but it took them 3 tries. I was getting pretty fed up with Makita but the last time I sent the saw to them they said they replaced every electrical component in the saw. I've been using it for 6 weeks now with no problems!
sounds like a blown bearing

Check your brushes
Might be small dust debris stuck between brush and engine
I had this problem before :)
