I had this problem when the PS3 came out. I actually had the same thing happen to me. My friend ended up picking me up the 60gb after running around all day to find one.

When I got in line qt my local Best Buy, I was 17th in line. At 4 o'clock, they handed out to dots to everyone for the model they wanted, so I got my ticket for my white 64GB wifi model and the line moved inside. But 5 o'clock, there were 150 people in line and a lot of people had to be turned away. I was surprised they had such a long line.

Your comments @ 6:05 shows your not aware how retail companies work, When the manager said the 3G was being sold at only 2 of the stores--you should have asked where...This process of only selling a certain item at 2 stores and not all best buy stores is a logistics and retail strategy.

You don't have to buy the iPad 2 anyway since you already got the original version. Wait buy once the iPad 3 comes out. Version 3 may have the Retina display. Much better for work with. The technical differences between the orginal Ipad and the ipad 2 showes that this is just a smart marketing move from apple.

Once I was going to buy a new phone at T-Mobile that had a great deal. The next day when I visited the store, the offer was over and the phone was over $300. It was my fault, but I was very disappointed until I found it at Best Buy much cheaper. No problem there.
That sux Chris. I waited for 4 hours at my local Best Buy. They actually went thru the line and asked everyone what they were getting. They also told us quantities of each model. My BB had both Verizon and ATT models . They only allowed one per cust.
However, we have about 8 Best Buys in our metro area. I understand that each BB had different inventory. I got a 64 GB Blk Wifi/3g
I had no issues at the Best Buy in my area. They had a lot more WiFi only models when compared to WiFi+3G but they had enough of them to satisfy the demand. The only frustrated people were those who showed up after all the tickets had been handed out.
I had a similar experience. I waited at an Apple store for 5 hours and didn't get the model I wanted. I was about 30th in line waiting for a 32 white AT&T model. I ended up with a 32 black Verizon.
Same thing happened to me. I talked to target and they said they would have a few of every model, so I went at 4:20 and talked to a store worker and he said all they had was 64 Gb white .... So I was mad but lucky there was a walmart 10 mi it's away and I asked the work there and they said the had 5 units and told my they had every GB model so I was glad that I was the first one there and got my 16 Gb because they on had 2 of them :-)
The stores don't know what they are getting before they get it. If your mad then be mad at Apple. The only thing the "managers" might know is that top selling stores will get the 3GS and the others won't. They might know this in a conference call the day of or an email. That still does not tell the stores specifically what stores get it. Not only that the information has to trickle down to all the employees, all before the people that are outside that eat sleep and breath apple info are let in.
I was at best buy in Traverse City, Michigan and they had the 3G model in both ATT and Verizon. Not sure how many but luckily I was sixth in line and only want 32gb black wifi. I think this is more of Apple wanting to control the release of their product information and it really needs to change. People should of known what and how many the store had. I'm not a bit surpised by this, Apple wants the customers at their stores, so they can sell the covers and apple care down your throat, thats why their where no pre-orders as well, they want more business though their stores to look good to their share holder as well.

Sorry this happened to you and others. I'm amazed at the amount of people who clearly don't care about what's happened in Japan. For all I know, I could've lived in Japan and I could've been a victim of that horrific earthquake. Today, instead of purchasing a new iPad (i've been saving up for months) I instead, i went to my bank and fowarded the 700$ to my family over in Japan. They are alright but from what my family members over here have been saying, most of their belongings are long gone. I hope that Japan starts accepting the money/supplies the Red Cross is trying to give them soon.

Best Buy I was at ran out of the white 16GB models pretty quickly. The third party stores like Target and Walmart only got five and sold out of sours in five minutes. Then headed ton the Apple store and they ended up being sold out of all their wifi and AT&T models. So came home with no iPad 2, but hopefully I can get my hands on one tomorrow.
Apple have A LOT of SKUs this time round - perhaps too many for them to handle all at once during the American launch. There are 3 Wi-Fi models in 2 colours. Then there are 3 Wi-Fi with GSM 3G models in 2 colours. Then there are 3 Wi-Fi with CDMA 3G models in 2 colours. That's 18 SKUs altogether. I think they've bitten off a bit more than they can chew, or have simply not been forthcoming about how many of those they could ship in the first few days.
In Japan there are people fighting for there homes and there life and all you care about is you did not get a iPad before everyone else. You a cool guy and all but take a movement and look what's happening in Japan and be happy you even have a home to go to to play on your iPad. Shame on u Chris I would not expect this crap from you.

Chris, I work at a Walmart store and we knew 2 days ago what stores where getting what. To my disappointment the store i work at wasn't getting them. We did know how many of each color and model at the two in my area that was getting them though. So I mainly would blame best buy and then apple for the very short supply at stores.

Once the BestBuy website stated they had the iPad camera connection kit in stock, and when I showed up the employees told me they didn't carry that product.
The Best Buy in Tallahassee, FL was HORRIBLE! Completely disorganized. They tried to do a really dumb numbered ticket system, which they eventually gave up because it was taking EXTREMELY too long to organize and distribute the iPads. I was 10th in line and didn't make my purchase until an hour after we were allowed in! Completely unacceptable!

Once I was going to buy a new phone at T-Mobile that had a great deal. The next day when I visited the store, the offer was over and the phone was over $300. It was my fault, but I was very disappointed until I found it at Best Buy much cheaper. No problem there.

That sux Chris. I waited for 4 hours at my local Best Buy. They actually went thru the line and asked everyone what they were getting. They also told us quantities of each model. My BB had both Verizon and ATT models . They only allowed one per cust.
However, we have about 8 Best Buys in our metro area. I understand that each BB had different inventory. I got a 64 GB Blk Wifi/3g

I had no issues at the Best Buy in my area. They had a lot more WiFi only models when compared to WiFi+3G but they had enough of them to satisfy the demand. The only frustrated people were those who showed up after all the tickets had been handed out.

I had a similar experience. I waited at an Apple store for 5 hours and didn't get the model I wanted. I was about 30th in line waiting for a 32 white AT&T model. I ended up with a 32 black Verizon.

Same thing happened to me. I talked to target and they said they would have a few of every model, so I went at 4:20 and talked to a store worker and he said all they had was 64 Gb white .... So I was mad but lucky there was a walmart 10 mi it's away and I asked the work there and they said the had 5 units and told my they had every GB model so I was glad that I was the first one there and got my 16 Gb because they on had 2 of them :-)

The stores don't know what they are getting before they get it. If your mad then be mad at Apple. The only thing the "managers" might know is that top selling stores will get the 3GS and the others won't. They might know this in a conference call the day of or an email. That still does not tell the stores specifically what stores get it. Not only that the information has to trickle down to all the employees, all before the people that are outside that eat sleep and breath apple info are let in.

I was at best buy in Traverse City, Michigan and they had the 3G model in both ATT and Verizon. Not sure how many but luckily I was sixth in line and only want 32gb black wifi. I think this is more of Apple wanting to control the release of their product information and it really needs to change. People should of known what and how many the store had. When i was waiting for the iphone 4 with my cuz walmart said they had 4 iPhone 4 in stock we came at midnight we were second in line but because of an att error we had to leave and go to another walmart 45 minutes later thank god we did because apperently no walmart had 4 iphone 4 in they only had one in stock and the other walmart cleard that yp for us and we were first in line for the iphone 4

Sorry this happened to you and others. I think maybe BestBuy just didn't know which stock and how much stock they would get but it would've been nice if Apple had let customers know which models were available at specific retailers. I'd be so annoyed queing up to not get something I'd waited hours for or if it had sold out but having said that if I do upgrade I'd buy it online there's so many thieves targeting Apple stores these days.

Today, instead of purchasing a new iPad (i've been saving up for months) I instead, i went to my bank and fowarded the 700$ to my family over in Japan. They are alright but from what my family members over here have been saying, most of their belongings are long gone. I hope that Japan starts accepting the money/supplies the Red Cross is trying to give them soon.

Best Buy I was at ran out of the white 16GB models pretty quickly. The third party stores like Target and Walmart only got five and sold out of sours in five minutes. Then headed ton the Apple store and they ended up being sold out of all their wifi and AT&T models. So came home with no iPad 2, but hopefully I can get my hands on one tomorrow.

Apple have A LOT of SKUs this time round - perhaps too many for them to handle all at once during the American launch. There are 3 Wi-Fi models in 2 colours. Then there are 3 Wi-Fi with GSM 3G models in 2 colours. Then there are 3 Wi-Fi with CDMA 3G models in 2 colours. That's 18 SKUs altogether. I think they've bitten off a bit more than they can chew, or have simply not been forthcoming about how many of those they could ship in the first few days.

Chris, I work at a Walmart store and we knew 2 days ago what stores where getting what. To my disappointment the store i work at wasn't getting them. We did know how many of each color and model at the two in my area that was getting them though. So I mainly would blame best buy and then apple for the very short supply at stores.

its like that all the time for any product with big hype. happened to me for the dreamcast release(believe it or not), ps3 release, wii release, and now ipad2 release. this has also happened to me in the past for midnight releases for such games as, halo, black ops, etc. and in stores such as best buy, gamestop, walmart, and circuit city. its a pain in the ass

Ive been waiting in line for Apple iOS devices since the iPhone 3G and i must say there has never been a time where there was no issues at all... When I got my iPhone 3g they said there was only 3 left in ALL models, yet there must of been like 30-40 people still waiting behind me that been there for 2 hours... its crazy
but at the end of the day, Eventhough Apple made you upset, it never stopped you from buying an iPad 2

The Best Buy in Tallahassee, FL was HORRIBLE! Completely disorganized. They tried to do a really dumb numbered ticket system, which they eventually gave up because it was taking EXTREMELY too long to organize and distribute the iPads. I was 10th in line and didn't make my purchase until an hour after we were allowed in! Completely unacceptable!
