Bands have to progress, if AFI kept their sound the exact same from the first album to the latest, they wouldn't be doing too well. It's difficult to progress, and change your sound, while remaining true to your vision of what the music should be.

i think Catastrophe420 is right. 1991-2003 was just awsome and badass. the only reason decemberunderground is more popular is because punk music is just too different for society to accept. it is the same society that lets in bands like my chemical romance, fall out boy, green day, panic! at the disco, etc. in. when they wrote december underground, they were clearly aiming for meaningless lyrics, corny guitar parts, and they really had no passion on the whole album.
