listen to the album. those first two chords are often not done single-finger. he's 2 frets neckward on the A string too at least half of the time. isn't nearly as easy to play as most believe. EVH slacks on it live. check the end of the studio track for some of the loudest A-string parts (root of the C, D, and E chords).

E flat..you could be pushing too hard on the strings, making the strings go sharp just a hair, or your guitar's a piece of shit, or anything, really, ha ha.. Good luck though.
