  • Hey I love all your videos and I was wondering if you could please teach how to play passenger seat death cab for cutie!?

  • @ThePickledChai there's an awesome video put up for that song a few days ago you should look it up!

  • You sound just like Milly from Freaks&Geeks.

  • man, why not say Ab, and Eb? since its in the key or Ab.... it's a lot easier then "G#"

  • @Elliot84 I made this video prior to having any knowledge in music theory, so give me a break... man.

  • @cmina Elliot84 is just trying to help. Cause that is standart music theory. Anyhows, good tutorial helped me fix out my mistakes with this song! Thanks

  • @Elliot84

man, why not say than instead of then? since its the right word.... learning the rule is a lot easier than it looks

  • @Elliot84 for people having no knowledge of musical theory like me it was helpful thank you

  • @Elliot84 haha, showed you, ass hole. XD

  • @Elliot84 Works the freakin' same. My gosh. I agree but either way you can say, write, and play it the SAME! :P

  • @Elliot84 MAN WHY NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP DONT TALK ABOUT CMINA LIKE THAT DONT YOU DO THAT DONT YOU GO THERE DONT DO IT MAN DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT DO IT SHE MADE THIS VIDEO WITH LOVE AND PASSION YOU CAN ONLY DREAM OF OUT OF THE DEPTHS OF LAZEREUTH THIS VIDEO FOUND ME AND NOW IM A BELIEVE A BELIEVER IN WHAT YOU ASK???

  • Such a beautiful but powerful song.

  • WHY DO I STRANGELY FEEL ATTRACTED TO YOU?

  • @darksaiyan106 cause your a creep

  • WHY DO I STRANGELY FEEL ATTRACTED TO YOU?

  • This was great thank you so much. :) Very helpful

  • your voice is sweet as mommas pie. it would make angels weep!

  • thank you so much! so helpful i love this song

  • You're good at teaching it! Good video, thanks!

  • i love you for this. great job keep it up

  • This is great, thank you!

  • Your voice reminds me of Milli's from Freaks and Geeks.

  • What kind of machine is that?

  • good job thanks

  • Just so you know, because of the key this piece is in (E flat major), it's actually an A flat (not G sharp), E flat (not D sharp) and B flat (not A sharp)

  • @faffelston That's false. It is in G sharp.

  • @TheGreve Well then it's still A-flat major (which is the same thing - in music theory it's never called G sharp major)

  • My point was only that from a music theory point of view, these are flats, not sharps

  • Yea, not bad. Try and speed it up a bit in the future.

  • i accidently gave it one star! sorry its acually a great tutorial! thank you!

  • Thank you for this tutorial. You explained everything very clearly, and it was easy to learn. And plus, you have a soft and nice voice :------------D ♥♥

    Love: Y00SEI

    thanks <:

  • this is such a well made video that i had no problem trancribing it to guitar. now i will post the guitar tab on ultimate guitar. i am so happy that i finally know the song

  • i had some friends over a while ago and i started playing this on my keyboard and they said the only reason they clued in that it wasn't the death cab recording was when the drums didn't kick in. awesome tutorial!

  • so its in D#... basically its G#, A#, Cm, D#, G# with the one odd chord before the voice starts being a B. The Brothers on a Hotel Bed part is like G#, Cm, A#. During the verse they mix in an A# sometimes instead of holding on G#.

If you play guitar put a capo on the 1st fret. For the "dee-doo" notes play the A#nF on the 6th fret of e n B strings instead of the A# lead-in chord, it has a nice ring

  • you are too slow in explaining it so its harder to remember all the steps, but thanks at least for doing it

  • simply, thank you.

  • i could sit here all day and watch all your videos because your voice is just so calming.... :) i really wanna see what your face looks like

  • Oh YES :)

  • im pretty sure that the first chord in the intro is played with middle C and not d#, if you're trying to be percise that is. but very nice : ]

  • You have the perfect voice for telling children bedtime stories. I could listen to it all day.

  • I learned how to play this about a year ago because of this tutorial, and it is fabulous. My cousins (who are actuallt taking piano lessons) couldn't believe that I could play something like this when they were still playing Mary Had A Little Lamb and equally childish song.

  • sounds beautiful<33

  • This comment is to answer a stupid comment!! SO... I think is becous this is a Tutorial video !! this video is TO HELP Not to : impress.. I LIKE THIS VIDEO REALLY MUTCH ...

  • so this was a stupid comment to try and answer a stupid comment?

  • greatttt tutorial learned it in 20 minutes!

  • I love you for making this. You're my new favorite! Have a cookie :3

  • Really good tutorial :) The only thing that was a little confusing was the notes between the chords, I thought they were supposed to be played like chords aswell... but I figured it out :P

    Thanks alot :D:D:D

  • very nicely done

  • GREAT job, thanks a lot for this...

By the way, you've got BEAUTIFUL hands, love them !!

  • u have pretty hands! haha. thank you so much i got this down in 15 minuts.

  • this is great!

thank you so much for your help!!

is there a piano score for this?

    x

  • thanks! this was very helpful :)

  • I LOVE this! (:

thankyou sooooooooooo much for posting this video!

  • Thank you so much.

  • although this song is written in Eb major, i think it is easiest to play it in G major

  • @keenanrecks I thought it was too, but got a reply saying it was in Gsharp (as far as I'm aware that would be Ab major anyway from a music theory point of view)

  • Thank you so much! You are awesome, very easy to follow. :D I learned how to play the song now, all i need is some more practice. ^^

  • amazing thank you so much.

  • ah you're great and really thorough :)

    thanks a lot!

    ima definately use this

    <33

  • amzing song.thanks so much, makes me want to cry.

  • I hate to do this but I feel a desperate need...

It cant be sharps because you said play the G# and G that cant happen. It would be Ab. I'm almost positive it would be a flat key. In fact remove all the uncertainty from that...it's a flat key.

  • Comment removed

  • it's true, I have the sheet music it's key of e flat

  • where did you get the sheet music?

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Awesome tutorial! Thanks so much! :D

  • they play this on vlogbrothers!!!!! woot!!!!

  • omg thank you so much.

  • Oh my God. The intro to the song just makes me want to cry...

  • jm rules! i saw them play to! in minnapolis, great band, death cab also the best thing to ever happen to music

  • Awesome! Thanks!

  • I like your voice...so sweet

  • GOD BLESS YOU! seriously you have no much idea how much this video means to me lol. really, thanks (im a beginner so you could imagine my overjoyment since this is one of my favorite songs lol)

  • Yay! Thank you <3

  • i LOVE this. thank you. SO much.

  • this is a really god tutorial. I LOVE your voice.

  • Thanks, perfect

  • That's a well done video.. sounds great. Thanks

  • Thanks so much for this video, it's awesome! I love it cuz I'm a total beginner, but it still sounds pretty impressive when you play it. It's so simple! My other fave piano influenced bands are Keane, Augustana, and Jack's Mannequin...tutorials maybe? :)

  • No way! I'm a huge fan of Keane and Jack's Mannequin. I play alot of Jack's Mannequin by ear. I saw them open for Panic! in Minneapolis. Seems you've got some great taste in music, my friend.

  • Great. Thank you!

  • wow what a great video. me and my girlfriend have been learning this and this video is so helpful. thank you.

  • very cool i learned a lot

  • awesome! third song i've learned thanks a lot!

  • hey me too! if you count twinkle twinkle little star as a song...

  • no.. it's two songs.... don't forget the alphabet!

    :)

  • this is genius! so helpfull.

  • i love you for making this, even though i dont play piano :D

  • OMG! thank you so much for this tutorial! you're a great teacher and pianist!

  • hey do u think that u could do one of these for transatlantacism? that would be awesome if u could

great vid by the way, ur summer skin one was also really good

  • Everyone who ever took any sort of music theory is probably crying right now. :P

Why: The key is C minor. In that scale, there are the notes: C D Eb F G Ab Bb

    C D D# F G G# A# is not a scale.

BUT other than that, a great guide! I was trying to figure out that B Gb B chord. Didn't realize the left hand was moving up chromatically. :x

  • This is definitely written in Eb Major, though the intro modulates to the relative minor with the B natural. In Eb the song ends with an authentic cadence from Bb (V) to Eb (I), if it were in c minor it would end with the subtonic moving to the mediant.

  • Was just trying to provide correct information.

  • i dont think she did this to impress anybody, but maybe instead to show you something useful

  • ... but it's a good tut - i think she didn't want to impress someone...

  • I think is becous this is a Tutorial video !! she upload this TO HELP Not to : impress.. I LIKE THIS VIDEO REALLY MUTCH ...

  • thanks

  • This is fantastic! Thank you so much! ^_^

Now I just need to find where I put my keyboard...

  • Thank you so very much! i just learned it you are a wonderful teacher.

  • great video, thanks for the help.

  • its easier explaining in flats rather than sharps...

  • especially because it's in E flat major.

  • this took me ages to get. i can play it now though xD

    thank youu!

  • thanks you

  • I've got the first part down pretty good thanks you're a good teacher.

  • you're an amazing teacher, thanks so much! btw, can you do one for fall for you by secondhand serenade???

  • thanks so much.

    youre a good teacher.

    i appreciate this

  • I like the way you setup your tutorials its really easy to understand unlike most tutorials.

    Your really good:D

  • Thank you! This is very much appreciated :]

  • instead of hitting the D# (the higher of the two) in the first chord, try doing a C, it sounds more like it to me.

  • Thank you very much! :D So easy to follow.

  • gr8 lesson, really appreciate it, I was also wondering, since you did not take lesson, do you play by ear or do you reads tabs. If you read tabs can you give me a good site for them cause I am having trouble finding a good site. Thanks

  • I enjoy your voice. It's soothing.

  • Thank you cmina! You make great tutorial vids! :D

  • I'm just curious to know if anyone has the actual sheet music to this song. I think this is a good tutorial but I prefer having the actual sheets and can't seem to find them anywhere online...so if you have then please let me know!

  • Wow, this was really helpful...i could read music years ago, but i've kinda lost it but now i can play this!

    Thank you!

  • This is great. Thanks so much!

  • Is it just me or is that Eb (D# in your case) played in the very beginning supposed to be a C? The Eb sounds wrong when you play and listen to the song....

  • aah such clear explanation with nice labeling too! thank you!

  • thank you! this was extremely helpful!

  • good, but get a grand piano, it would sound much much better, your good though:)

  • Yes grands sound better. Remember though, not all can afford grand pianos.

  • or have room for one

  • Hi... Just curious: Why do you use sharps to describe the keys instead of flats? The song seems quite clearly written in the key of Eb (your D#).

  • her profile says she's never had a music lesson- but thx now that you say that it makes more sense

  • Beat me to it! By almost a whole year! Thanks for uploadin!

  • Bad math! Almost two years!

  • Ah! My favorite song from Death Cab, and I can play it!

    Thanks to you. <3

  • Thank you my hero!!

  • awesome tutorial

  • whats up with all of these pop rock pianists and their parallel fifths????

  • quick note, try talking in flats, not sharps. sharps and flats have an order: sharps-fcgdaeb, flats the other way around-beadgcf. so you wouldnt have d or g sharps w/o the f and c sharps, too. in flats theyd all fit, from b through d

i know its all the same and doesnt really matter. not trying to sound stuck up or anything :) it'll help give you a lil more credibility with the music crowd. seriously major kudos, though, for writing it all out by ear. impressive. very clear instructions, too.

  • Umm... yeah. You'll have to excuse me because I have no knowledge concerning music theory. I merely wanted to create a tutorial for people, such as myself, who do not know how to read music but still want to be able to play their favorite songs. So, thanks anyway.

  • i can only play piano well within the limitations of how i can teach myself, but this tutorial i good for helping me just learn songs to play.

    way to go!

  • thanks so much!

  • this was extremely well done, thank you so much!!! i love this song! it makes me cry, but hopefully i won't get tearstains all over my piano!!!! thanks again!!!

  • brilliant song

being a guitarist it doesnt help much

but im very tempted now to get a keyboard lol

    :)

    well done btw

  • Omg I can play It!!!

    Thank you so much <3

  • thanks for the help. i still need to work on it but thanks a bunch!!

  • Thanks so much! You're a very good teacher!

  • Thankyou So Much For Making This, It Really Is Clear. Love This Song... Lovely Hands ^__^

  • Wow, just watched it through and it's so clear, thank you!

I'm going to learn this when my exams are over!

  • i have been using all you tutorials to play their songs, thank you so much!

  • such a pretty song!!

  • thank u sooo much i've been wanting to play this song soo badly

  • Ii want to learn how to play this song, it is my all time favourite song, thats for the vid, well done.

  • youre friggin awesome for doin thisssss. ;D

  • i meant , i don't even know^^ you but i like you ^^

  • i don't even but i like you^^

  • this song makes me so sad, mostly because it reminds me of this most recent december which was a very happy time.

  • thanks muchly ^_^

  • my last comment was in response to doomandebil's post about 9 comments down but for some reason it put it up here... FYI

  • nm guess it just takes it a second to format

  • I've watched every other video for this song and you are the only one who plays it right and in the right key as well. The even more amazing thing about that is your video is a tutorial. I think alot of these other peeps need to watch your video then re-make all of their's cause they are absolute crap. Was curious if you could do one for "Mad World" i've looked at the tutorials for that song as well and as i figured they are horrible. Anyways great job keep playing. Peace

  • totally agree with you. :D its so easy to follow. ^.^

  • thank you soo much ive been looking everywhere for this.

do you think you could make a video on how to play "A Drop in the Ocean" by ron pope?

  • thank U!!!!!!!

  • LOVE U FOR IT!!!!

  • thank you.
