Awesome vid and I am not criticizing you or anything cuz it takes guts to put stuff on youtube but you may want to play it at tempo... its a little distracting otherwise.... :/

Just so you know, because of the key this piece is in (E flat major), it's actually an A flat (not G sharp), E flat (not D sharp) and B flat (not A sharp)
Thank you for this tutorial. You explained everything very clearly, and it was easy to learn. And plus, you have a soft and nice voice :------------D ♥♥
this is such a well made video that i had no problem trancribing it to guitar. now i will post the guitar tab on ultimate guitar. i am so happy that i finally know the song
i had some friends over a while ago and i started playing this on my keyboard and they said the only reason they clued in that it wasn't the death cab recording was when the drums didn't kick in. awesome tutorial!
so its in D#... basically its G#, A#, Cm, D#, G# with the one odd chord before the voice starts being a B. The Brothers on a Hotel Bed part is like G#, Cm, A#. During the verse they mix in an A# sometimes instead of holding on G#.
If you play guitar put a capo on the 1st fret. For the "dee-doo" notes play the A#nF on the 6th fret of e n B strings instead of the A# lead-in chord, it has a nice ring
I learned how to play this about a year ago because of this tutorial, and it is fabulous. My cousins (who are actuallt taking piano lessons) couldn't believe that I could play something like this when they were still playing Mary Had A Little Lamb and equally childish song.
This comment is to answer a stupid comment!! SO... I think is becous this is a Tutorial video !! this video is TO HELP Not to : impress.. I LIKE THIS VIDEO REALLY MUTCH ...
Really good tutorial :) The only thing that was a little confusing was the notes between the chords, I thought they were supposed to be played like chords aswell... but I figured it out :P
@keenanrecks I thought it was too, but got a reply saying it was in Gsharp (as far as I'm aware that would be Ab major anyway from a music theory point of view)
It cant be sharps because you said play the G# and G that cant happen. It would be Ab. I'm almost positive it would be a flat key. In fact remove all the uncertainty from that...it's a flat key.
GOD BLESS YOU! seriously you have no much idea how much this video means to me lol. really, thanks (im a beginner so you could imagine my overjoyment since this is one of my favorite songs lol)

Everyone who ever took any sort of music theory is probably crying right now. :P
Why: The key is C minor. In that scale, there are the notes: C D Eb F G Ab Bb
C D D# F G G# A# is not a scale.
BUT other than that, a great guide! I was trying to figure out that B Gb B chord. Didn't realize the left hand was moving up chromatically. :x
shizzlebrow 3 years ago
This is definitely written in Eb Major, though the intro modulates to the relative minor with the B natural. In Eb the song ends with an authentic cadence from Bb (V) to Eb (I), if it were in c minor it would end with the subtonic moving to the mediant.
