  • gave me chills!

  • domingo sounds a little flat 4:53-55-- he has so little ring over upper overtones in his voice

  • Alongside that, he had very secure musicianship, good style evident with the role of Figaro, great vocal expression, a truly exciting and thrilling top and some of the best legato lines of any baritone that he demonstrated seamlessly especially in Il Balen in the 1988 Met production of Il Trovatore. When it came to his acting he was very gifted at that, true it sometimes lacked subtlety, like during Si Pel Ciel and Act 2 of La Fancuilla Del West he looks like a predatory cat, but very compelling

  • Milnes' technique wasn't perfect I agree, he did have hook a lot, and he did have a tendency to sing flat. However, nobody has a perfect vocal technique not even me and I'm a singer, and Milnes never has, and never will be the only singer operatic or otherwise to sing flat(or sharp even). Even with any imperfections he had, in his prime he has a powerful and masculine voice which got edgier in later years, and he always commanded the stage superbly even in concert.

  • However, my enjoyment of watching two of my favourite singers perform is starting to diminish after seeing so many people carp about Milnes' technique. I don't mind when someone I admire is criticised but I do when not only the comments made are blunt and artificial but expressed in an ignorant and opinionated manner, which is the case with most people on YouTube. This was especially the case watching Milnes singing Uma Fatale, which I thought he did a good job with, but once again more arguing.

  • I absolutely love Domingo and Milnes together, they blend really well together sing and communicate effectively. And I have really loved all the other duets that have been posted, I was especially taken with In Un Coupe... and The Pearl Fishers Duet, and one of my favourite little things about watching those duets was Milnes' uttering of the name Cassio during Si pel ciel.

  • Bravissimo!!!!!

    Genial!!!

  • @bodiloto confermo tutto analisi perfetta. Un abbraccio carissimo

  • Superiores.Me encanta La forza y me encantan Placido y Milnes. Gracias por subir este video tan bello

  • How can you honestly look at this clip and not say the Milnes voice is exciting?

  • Oh it's certainly exciting, but it is not healthy. His voice just never sounded like it was healthily produced. And I'm sorry, the hooking is just flat out UGLY. It just makes an ugly sound. I wish his technique would've been better.

  • @Iareto I couldn't agree more. Ye gods, this is an ugly sound.

  • all this bad comments! Can you do it better? I don´t think!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting the videos of this concert. I was present at the concert and it was an exciting event. These videos bring back many happy memories of seeing and hearing these gentlemen at the Met.

  • you are a lucky one!!!

  • Extraordinarios

  • ...although that last note was in the hole!

  • I forgot what bad vocal technique Milnes had...I wish he would have just opened his mouth and sang instead of all the crap he did with his lower jaw and vowel hooking...he was trying to imitate Leonard Warren...

  • Dear Wansob, many thanks for posting those duets! Take care, J
