Your thinking of a Cranefly, they look like large Mosquitoes. Fishfly is another name for a certain species of Mayfly. Fishflies are considered larger and can live up to 7 days as an adult whereas the Mayfly can only live between 30 minutes to 24 hours depending on the species. Both are considered a good sign of water quality.

these are NOT mayflies!!!! The may fly is like a mosquito but bigger and clear, these are fish flies, they come in June.

ha no. They just mate and die like the next day. Comes out of the illinois river every year i guess.
