Out of every division in the battle the 3rd Infantry Division (US) held the line and broke the German offensive. 3rd ID countered and soon everyone else came running back to help.
The French and British would have lost without the U.S. intervening. The Germans had won pretty throughout the entire war, and were sitting outside of Paris. When the Russians dropped out of the war it looked like the end for France. Without the U.S. coming in and massively outproducing and outnumbering the Germans with fresh troops they would have won.

Second the artillery was rarely used during attacks on the trenches. Most of the time the artillery didnt have had enough time to have set up to fire when one of the sides decided to charge the other one.
Third the planes at the time didnt fly during battles. They were to light armored to risk it being shot down. They were mainly used for reconaisance or bombing runs.

@ThePrisoner12345 No, he meant the war especially sucked for the soldiers because it was basically charging across a wide open space at an entrenched opponent. That wouldn't work, so you would retreat back and then shoot the other side who would do exactly what you were just doing. Nothing about the men themselves.

The fighting men didn't suck, they WERE heroes, and it's amazing that they were able to keep going in the face of all of it.

There were early tanks during WW1, of course not as advanced until WWII, but there were tanks. And The French did have an automatic sub-machine gun type weapon. They lended it to the americans.
