  • This is very instructive for young people. You don't get there right away. My Golly, look where this man came from and where he has gone. Why, it just makes me a giddy gilmore gal, truly it does.

And for you younguns that are protestin our ways: git a job and write better software so these comment boxes work!

  • My ears may deceive me, but I really didn't hear Jon sing any flat notes. Just sayin', though.

  • Thankfully he hit his stride with singing after this, hey? It sounds like a completely different voice here.

  • @pacchiarotti1 Yeah pretty much

  • According to IMDB, this show was in Germany in 1967

  • Anyone know what year this is?

  • Had to watch this a few times for my old German classes to rise to the top of my brain ... I think the announcer says the band is going to perform two songs, this one and one called "Tango." If that's the case, there's probably another clip floating around somewhere ... :)

  • What year was this, anyone know?

Love how the announcer switches from German to Midwestern U.S. English. ;)

  • OMG! When Jon was mod! lol. Great find. Keybrdist looks familiar @ 1:52 Hmmm.

    Thnx for posting. :-)

  • @IYAMNI Okay we give who is it?

  • @jsilence418 I didn't know who he was when I wrote that. I just thought he looked a lot like young Steve Winwood. lol. It was an unlikely but not impossible guess, considering the time period. Turns out his name is Brian Chatton who it seems has played with everybody from Jethro Tull to Keith Emerson and Meatloaf. Google 'Brian Chatton Bio' to see the list for yourself. He also played with Phil Collins' pre-Genesis band Flaming Youth and you can see some of their early vids on YT.

  • @IYAMNI That's good to know ,I was wondering which one was Andersons brother?

  • Where the heck has this been hiding?! Awesome, classic footage.

Every bit as fascinating as the "Simon Dupree and the Big Sound" stuff.

  • Cool! Groovy!

  • Jon's voice still sounded this way on the first two YES albums as well. His higher register soon became his niche and it has been that way since. Wonderful.

  • Sounds like he's trying to sound like john lennon

  • Aww, he's so cute, and little! Little Jo(h)n! good stuff.

  • Don't know if Jon was altering his voice to make it sound heavier, 'thicker', or if he was a bit hoarse that night. ...Seems his voice wasn't as strong then as in later years. Watching this an old Jon quote (but not near as old as the performance) came to mind; 'You've got to have the blues to sing the blues'.

  • Jon is a beast! From some interview you can see on Youtube, Jon said they (the warriors) wanted to be Beatles. I guess it shows.

  • I could not imagine that I would ever see this. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Great, nice seeing and hearing Jon in his early days, thanks for posting!

  • I've been a Yes fan for decades. It is truly bizarre to hear Jon singing in a lower register like this!

  • This was 1964-'66 German TV. After the war the German people were desperate enough to settle for this? Thank goodness Jon met Chris Squire and Steve Howe.

  • Thanks for posting this historical document: it is really nice to see the early stages of the man, who should later change Rock music fundamentally and become the best Rock composer and vocalist ever.

  • realy museum :)

    dzięki za oryginalnego Jona

  • he sings so off key...wow did he improve later on.

  • He isn't off key. A few flat notes yeah, but it's not so bad... :P

  • Wow that was incredible, he had a whole other life before he became mega famous!

  • awesome! Thanks for posting this!

  • Does anyone have access to the UK television show called "Thank Your Lucky Stars" June 6 1964? The Warriors were on that show. If you have that show, please share.

  • I suspect this was Jon's effort at being masculine. He took over the lead vocals part-way through this band's existence (his older brother, Tony, had vocal duties beforehand). Jon was probably 21 or 22 when this was filmed. Within a couple of years, though, he was singing "Sweetness" in his eventual voice. Ahh, the strength of video archives. I wonder what's still out there to discover. (Movie scenes from Just For You)

  • Yes, you never hear him singing in such a low register. It's like he's trying to sound like the singer of The Animals, as in, with macho attitude.

Very cool. Have never heard any Warriors music.

  • Jon must have been fighting a cold or something. He never sings this badly. OUCH !

  • jon super

  • Far out...this is Beat Club...They also had The Yardbirds with the savage young Jimmy Page. What a crazy show-You gotta love the announcer and his PERFECT American english switching on and off without any discernible effort:)

  • AMAZING

  • It's amazing as film of Yes singer Jon Anderson''s otherwise obscure early career. It's musically godawful of course, and unoriginal. As if a drunk self pitying early Lennon made a mistake before writing This Boy. But the fascination is its status as an historical 'document'.

  • ok--"thumbs-down" my comment, but, still why is this AMAZING? Ive been a fan of Yes my entire life, but i still have enough courage to say "shit" when something smells like "shit", and this is shit.

  • Ian wallace(Drums)

    Brian Chatton(Keyboards)

  • many blessings

  • Hey that's great, I had two Warriors songs tracked down, this is new to me. I dig that Vox Continental organ!!

  • God, he couldn't sing on pitch, for that matter sing at all! Sheez!

  • Rare gem indeed...heavy influence Hollies-early Mersey Beat sound

  • Very cool. Just when I think I've immersed myself as far into Yes lore as possible, a trap door opens and I'm down another rabbit hole! Thanks for posting this.

  • What's he on about "Manchester"? Is Accrington too difficult for him to pronounce?

  • @WynonieHarris Given that Ian was from Bury and Brian was a Bolton lad, not to mention that who in Germany knows where Accrington is.... Manchester seems fair! LOL

  • @WynonieHarris Given that Ian was from Bury and Brian was a Bolton lad, not to mention that who in Germany knows where Accrington is.... Manchester seems fair! LOL

  • Ya gotta love Jon and the Warriors.. Great stuff. Thank you for posting. I would like to see more early Yes.. The first couple of albums are always a treat..

  • that guy's english was great!

  • Jon used to be a smoker in the 60's. Smoking pot or cigarettes, it affects the vocal chords. Plus he's just starting out being a vocalist.

  • Is THAT Jon Anderson? How come his voice doesn't sound as high?

  • That is cool to see him in his pre-fame days

  • Haha Jon looks so young! He looks like 19-20. Amazing song. I liked it

  • Would've been exactly. His birthdate is 10/25/44.

  • this one of the coolest yes-related video items ive seen in 5 years/ wow- i wasnt really impressed with "you came along", but THIS.....WOW- did the warriiors release any more songs besides these?

  • The Warriors released "You Came Along" b/w "Don't Make Me Blue" - plus there is a live album (bootleg). They also performed on a film called "Just For You", but I've never seen it. I've searched. David Foster (Warriors) told me that he received a royalty check from the playing of that film is Australia in the mid-90s, so it's probably out there.

  • thanks for posting this very rare jon's performance, jon seems very young, and of

course he had to adapt his register of his voice for the song.

Anyway, you are a real yesmuseum indeed.

Hope you will find another jewels like this one =)

  • This is truly a rare piece of music history. Thanks so much for finding and putting this up!

  • Climb summer mornings, tell me of days past, did we all to sing of the praises of love, and is one hand raised high in the dark..

  • Wow, wow, wow. What a treat this video exists. This is precious (Jon Anderson)history, for sure. Thank you for sharing. However you managed to come by this is astounding.

  • Awesome. Nice to see a pre-yes performance from Jon.

  • OHMIGOSH! I didn't think anything like this existed! Where did this come from? This is priceless.

  • I don't know its origin. I was supplied the file a while back from a Yes fan. I'd like to know if it's on a DVD. I'd buy it!

  • Grreat footage! They sound quite close to the Beatles. The announcer speaks german with an english accent.

  • Oh yes they do...close to the Hollies too

  • That's an interesting observation...I don't speak German, so I can't tell. What's funny is, he speaks German with an English accent, but then speaks English with an American accent. Awesome.

  • it might be german with an american accent....

phonetically there's not much difference for german ears ;-)

  • Wow amazing video...

  • WOW,Thats CRAZY...

Does that mean that he sings falsetto now?

  • After almost a year again a Jon Anderson video from the Yesmuseum, thanks Lee!

Jon's voice is not so high in this song as later with Yes.

  • His voice seems weaker and the vocal style is not so suited for his voice.

  • To me, it sounds as though Jon is trying to sing in a lower register so he'll sound "manly" As I understand things, Jon wasn't the original singer for the Warriors. If Mr. Nobody Nothing was previously sung by someone with a deeper range, Jon might have wanted to mimic that style. That said, Jon certainly hadn't developed the clear voice that arose in the few years that followed.

  • This is solid gold. Such a rarity. Thanks SO much for posting. Made my day!

  • That's great! Thanks so much for posting!

  • AWEEEEE! That's Jon indeed but it's not Jon... :D Thanks a lot for posting!

  • True...amazing!!

  • Yeah baby! Thanks Lee!

  • OMG Ymuseum...This is AMAZING footage. Love seeing young psychedelic Jon and the hilarious couples dancing.
