I listen to this song every week. We have been married for 35 years going strong. I went through the angst this song describes so elequently and came out the other side. I so love her today and forever. These things happen every day....... It's not that hard and yet it is very hard unless both see where it can go. I love it
I worked this song up on guitar. Having done so I can really feel how much heart Dino put in to the vocal. That may be why other artists aren't redoing it a lot. Add Mark Naftalin's absolutely beautiful piano and those romantic lyrics that make you feel the happiness and tragedy of love. If you are a romantic this song should touch your soul.
To end the debate once and for all, the piano player on this song and album IS NOT Nicky Hopkins or Mark Naftalin. The 1972 Capitol Anothology is not correct. On this album and "Comin Thru" the piano and organ is played by the late great Charles "Chuck" Schoening aka Chuck Steaks. Alot of websites think Mark Naftalin is ("aka") Chuck Steaks, or that Chuck Steaks was a fictional person, but it's actually Charles Schoening, who was prominent in the Bay Area music scene in the late 1960's-70's.
Most beautiful song ever made! I'm smiling and crying all at the same time! I remember taking an illicit break at work in 1980 to call the DJ on KISN radio in Portland and convincing him to play this so all my co-workers could be enlightened also and yes, HE DID! I can still sing all the lyrics!
Hey Sweetums! I'm glad you reminded me of this special oldie. I saved it as a fav on You Tube, and was even going to puchase it for my iPhone, but believe it or not iTunes didn't have the album. Wanh. No doubt, an awful disappointment. I'm still so glad you posted it. :~) it
i grew up in a small Georgia town and was in the 10th grade in 1973 when my older brother turned me on to Quicksilver, the Allman Brothers Band, Derek and the Dominoes and other great bands. Other kids thought I was weird, but looking back, they all came around and now they all love the music and think that today's music sucks. What a great time and wonderful music!
I only new 3 songs from QSMS and this was was not one of them. I can't believe this existed and I never knew about ti. So beautiful. thanks for posting
Hey, you know who you are: we had something really good but it wasn't good enough for you. And it hurt but I finally got to where I didn't care and I moved on. You never did and life didn't end up the way you imagined it would be. I'm happy now, you're not. I don't feel good about it but that's just the way it is.
@sweetjaneg Some people think it is not Hopkins, but you are exactly right-you only have to listen. IMHO he was the best piano player in the last 60 years . There may be bigger names, but no one is close to his talent, sound, and what he left for us to listen to.
Naftalin joined QMS for the What About Me album as Dino Valente was the lead man again, and Hopkins had left. However the album before Just For Love was basically the same album and Hopkins played the piano on Don't Cry My Lady Love even though Mark N. was the piano player of record on the album. Half the former album was included in the latter album-this song was done by Hopkins.Quicksilver played this live with Hopkins before Naftalin joined the group. and the song was recorded before MNaft..
I heard this song for the 1st time today while driving from home and it almost made me weep. The words are stunning and the piano grates on the heart. I can just imagine a whole audience of strangers singing this song in complete unison under a black sky lit by tiny candle lights.
The only PIANO PLAYER listed for this song, according to the QUICKSILVER
MESSENGER SERVICE "ANTHOLOGY" album inner sleeve is MARK NAFTALIN!!
(Chuck Steaks came after and only APPEARS on "COMIN THRU!", he was a KEYBOARDIST (organ & synthesizer) (I saw every NYC appearance by QMS during the ealry 70's or "THE CHUCK STEAKS ERA" & never saw or heard of playing PIANO! (just some first hand FIRST HAND F.Y.I!)
Actually two piano players on this song...MarK Naftalin and Chuk Steaks...As a piano player it makes me feel better that there are two players here LOL....A truly classic tune
This was posted by someone earlier and the debate regarding the piano player swirled around. I always thought it was Nicky Hopkins, but, please correct me.
This is just one of the most beatiful songs ever written. Can always kickback and remember earlier good times. About this time I was involved in my first serious romance and this was one of the songs that alwyas brings me back to those days.
i llove this song. just got my turntable back out last nite and was thinking about transferring my original ANthology 2 album set to pc, i love this band takes me back, beautiful song. thank you. played it just a while ago on my turntable, album excellent conditon. sounds great
i like this song and the whole album, in fact......the only criticism i have is that on some tracks (like this) there's just too many vocal tracks happenig with all that syrupy reverb added......for me, this diminishes the personal impact of the lyrics......much rather hear a more simple vocal production i guess......yea, the the msytery pianist is really outstanding
Very exciting to find this! Thanks for posting. I have original vinyl, too. Gosh this takes me back. I can listen to this over and over. The piano is singing along....Love it! Love it!
I really love this song and never get tried of listenning it. It has beautiful melody and piano voice. Anybody has video of this song? เพราะมากๆ ผ่านมา 20 ปีแล้วก็ยังเพราะ
Absolutely LOVE this one. Thank you for putting it up. I was 19 years old ! I loved this Album...less heavy ...more Pop ...just the ticket for a teenage girl in the early seventies. So sweet.
