when collins leaves after this season, i think elijah will be our starting point guard over taylor, and i also think elijah is going to be one of the best point guards we've had since the championship
i don't know how self is gonna find minutes for all the guards. i mean collins, taylor, e.j., cj henry, brady, tyrel, releford. all are capable of starting and contributing, this is the most depth in the backcourt I have seen in a long time
look 4 johnson to be a great player for kansas, this cat is the # 4 point guard in the country, yet he will most likely not even start... and with collins not coming out until his senior year,, this cat will only learn from collins, that learning will benefit him in his later years.... i hope he does this same dunk on the missouri tigers .... i hate the tigers
this kid is great and we are also getting thomas Robinson and jeff withey. My dream scenario is this: When x visits kentucky next weekend he signs a letter of intent and Lance signs with us. Then we crush uk in the final four and their sitting in lucas oil stadium watching us cut down the nets
Ichron, believe it or not, Kansas is the cradle of modern ball. In fact, at one time, six of the 10 winningest coaches in NCAA history coached in Kansas or were from Kansas. Gene Miller, Gene Keady, Oh what the hell. You believe it or you don't.
Your argument is pretty weak. You cannot lay claim to Rupp and Smith, who both played and won national titles at Kansas, learned from "the father of basketball coaching" and then went on and build UK and UNC respectively? Really? Why not? They learned the game while playing and winning national titles at the University of Kansas. If Danny Manning went on and coached a program and led them to prominence, do we not get to lay claim to him either?
There is a reason why Allen Fieldhouse has been called the mecca of college basketball. I've heard it many, many times from commentators over the years.
Are you kidding me, Ichron? 3rd most wins in history, 5 championships (3 coaches - Allen, Brown and Self). The inventor of the game (James Naismith) coached there and has the basketball Hall of Fame named after him. Phog Allen (the Father of Basketball Coaching coached there). Legendary coaches/players such as Dean Smith, Adolf Rupp, Wilt Chamberlain and Danny Manning (just to name a few) have played there. Cradle? Absolutely.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Naismith was Canadian. He also had a piss poor record coaching there. Smith is more associated with UNC than KU. Rupp is more associated with UK than KU. You can't lay claim to someone just because they were there once, but are associated more with other places. By that method, Canada has more claim to basketball than KU with Naismith. I'll give you Wilt and Manning, but there are legendary players at each traditional power. Jordan for UNC, Kareem and Walton at UCLA, Riley at UK.
Yeah, and Naismith technically invented basketball at a YMCA in Massachusetts. Also, despite having a losing record, I wouldn't call 55-60 a "piss poor record."
As for Smith, he's from Emporia, Kansas, went to KU, and was on our 1953 championship team, coached by Phog Allen. Adolph Rupp was from Halstead, Kansas (not too far from my hometown), went to KU, and was on our 1922 and 1923 Helms Championship teams, coached, again, by Phog Allen.
The fact is, UNC and UK wouldn't be the incredible powerhouses they are today without Smith and Rupp, two guys who were born and raised in Kansas, played for KU, and learned from the legendary Phog Allen, who himself learned from the inventor of the sport. Maybe you've never come down to The Phog and watched a game, but it's impossible to escape the history of Kansas basketball.
My point exactly. You asked for the basis of KU being the cradle of basketball. Cradle is the beginning, is it not? Smith and Rupp started their basketball careers under one of the greatest coaches of all time...at KU. I agree with the fact that they are both known primarily for other schools, but the fact that they both got their start at KU strengthens the "cradle" argument. Just out of curiousity, what school, in your opinion, would be considered the cradle other than KU?
I believe I said, "one of the top paid." That's weird, it's right there! haha Being "one of the top paid" usually means you're pretty fucking good. Your arguments suck ass, Kansas is, and always, has been the cradle of basketball. Not only that, one the most prominent basketball programs in the nation.
You realize it was a Kansas coach that got basketball in the Olympics right? He coached the first teams.
March Madness??? Who started that? The same Kansas coach... Isnt it interesting that all the beginning games of the tournament were played in Kansas City for so many years? I could have been a dick and called you out in the thread but I didnt. I suggest reading up on basketball history as you need it.

It is? How many wins does Kansas have? Championships? How many coaches have won championships for Kansas? What's your basis of it being the cradle?
Ichron 2 years ago
The fact that the sport was born there, that might have something to do with it. Thanks for playing.
