Yup thats just how I did it. Chopped a hole under the rear seat and stuck 4 more g31s in there. I has 10 total in my Geo. Burned rubber in 3 gears. =)
man thats awesome..is there a website u know of to explain to me exactly how to hook up thecontroller and motor and potentiometer and etc..like,beside the schematic cuz i cant really read that,ya know(or understand it)or could u maybe explain it to me in more detail?is there a way i can give my e-mail without everyone getting it?
I am planning aero-improvements, but want to take care of general battery/range issues first.
I did have a partial belly pan on there, more for engine compartment salt-water protection than anything. The long term plan will have a belly pan, and maybe a front air dam. I like the idea of aero-ing the headlights too.
Love this project Ben. But a good idea to make gearchangeing easy is to put a oneway bearing between the motor and transmission so the car freewheels when you let of the accelerator. I would love to see someone try that.

Also, what is your range now that youve added more batteries?
What is your estimated range for the additional batteries?

Congratulations on having a great car. More people should be driving electric.
Will you be improving the aerodynamics?
(Light covers, Wheel skirts, Underbody panel, etc)

Thanks for the response.
I understand completely.
What made you choose the Metro
instead of a car with a better CD?
(honda hatch)

The Metro looked nice, I got a good deal on it, and aerodynamics aren't THAT important when you are driving in mostly 25 mph zones.
Metros are far cheaper than Hondas too. With a bigger budget, a Honda CRX or All-Electric Insight would be a FANTASTIC project!

You have advanced brushes, right? Also, do you have an emergency disconnect on your car (like one attached to the clutch pedal)?

If it goes 60 mph at 96 volts it should do around 75 mph at 120 volts! That would be sooo nice!!
DanneKW 3 years ago
Yep! Somebody pointed out to me that I will have to start modifying the aerodynamics if I am doing these speeds!
BenjaminNelson 3 years ago
I bet that turbo drains the batteries quickly~! ...not to mention safety ;)
how's the motor handling 96V ?
sethnord 3 years ago
The motor handles the voltage just fine. I have been told that the motor should take up to 120v without modification.
As for safety, stopping ANY of three contactors will turn the turbo off, but yes, it DOES drain the batteries fast!

nice, are you going to film the acceleration with your turbo setup?
hobbes32 3 years ago
Not sure what I could do for filming the turbo, other than just pointing a video camera at the speedometer.
