So this isn't necessarily a continuation of Frontier and more it being an edited (extremely) version of the Frontier series? I just got started watching these so if that is the case, then I should just keep on with the series and watch the movie after? Am I right on this?

I think the movie was far better than the series itself. It had less of the pseudo past angst from Alto--which didn't seem an issue because they never really dealt with it besides, "Come home," "No"--and less of the romantic-angst occurring. It's like they took out all the unnecessary filler scenes. The slight plot alterations also were nice and...I like how they all moved into action so much quicker. Especially Ranka. <3

Most movies are just remakes of the show, it pisses me off that I wait for the movie and it's a piece of crap retelling of the story. I'm glad this will have two movies, but I'm really only looking forward to the second one.

I am glad they're making REAL movie this time. Kiddy Grade and Gurren Lagann give bad names about movie. I mean it's kinda sad to just make 'movie' for promoting the series.

The only reason why they decided to make a movie on Macross Frontier because of its bad ending where many viewers were confused on who Alto picked as his lover and it made people upset and fight over one another to see which candidate they like more. So in order to resolve the fight they made a movie about it instead of making a whole new series.

@CowChan789 Grrr... and yeah. I do have to agree that he's stupid like that. Sheryl is too impatient and wants everything her way and then Ranka is too shy and collected. I watched the whole series that's fan subbed. I can go to a place that I know of in North Carolina outside of Ft. Bragg (I'm in the US Army) and get the movie with the fan subs. And the series is very, very accurate.

@SilverIceDragon actually there was at the time of the release in japan that they fansubbed the whole seires and you could of download them off of mininova but they recently changed their format, there's probably some place you can get them still fan subbed and everythingg.

i don't know about Kiddy Grade

but Gurren Lagan does not "give bad names about movie" cause basically its probably for people who don't have time to watch the whole series (also goes for Kiddy Grade too maybe) And Gurren Lagann is one of my most favorite anime and many people find it weird cause i'm a girl xD and it's a manly anime

and Alto doesn't really deserve both girls cause he chose the SKY

I think the most successful at makin' "remake" movies has been the new Evangelion 3 (or was it 4?) part movies. they actually added more stuff in (like new characters) and r supposedly gonna change the ending to match what was intended rather than how the series ended it.

but hey, these types of movies r good summaries for those ppl who r lazy or dont have enough time to watch 20+ episodes to get the story down.

Evangelion Rebuild was nothing like the originals. They totally changed the nature and themes of the series. It was a feeble attempt to squeeze more cash out of the franchise.

i will admit that with the first movie, the psychological tone was toned down a little in relation to shinji, actually maybe a lot, i havent gotten to see the 2nd movie yet, but i do see that the psychological factor has been toned down. but for me anyway, the new movies will just be a supplemental to the series, not replace it entirely.

i would still recommend ppl to watch the original series before watching the newer movies, as i had a kouhai friend of mine do.

The original series and Mac Plus were pretty good. Frontier was kind of disappointing, but still decent... The movie looks equally disappointing seeing as it doesn't actually further the story in any way; it just rehashes the series.
