can someone answer me on how lars gets his bass drum ONLY in the ...And Justice For All album to sound like that? It doesn't sound like it in any other albums, especially the prior ones. Is it just Tama bass drums? This guy sorta has that sound too.
not the shells man, its the skins being slack(ive found) and the way its mic'd with eq n such, i got 2 kits, a tama swingstar and a cheap ass copy and i get emm same:) cos i love the drum sound from justice:)
well arent you a little professional...lol.... alls i said was i dk about the bass drum....im not to illiterate on instriments....mabie grammer...but thats all...lol
Yeah, that's what made the clicking noise. I'm not sure where he got the coins, but I know they were nickels. I remember reading about it somewhere, i'm a drummer aswell, and I always wondered how he got the sound. I bought a click pad for an album I recorded with my band and it sounded pretty close.
He used nickels as a click pad, and a loose tuning on both the bass drum heads. He put mics on the batter and reso head of the bass drum aswell, so it picked up a lot of the click. The mastering of the album would have an effect on the sound aswell.
The closest you'll get without having a studio is buying a decent click pad (I suggest Danmar) and tuning both of your bass drum heads as loose as you can without getting a dead sound. If you have mics, trying micing the batter side.
Triumph, eh? I've had a few requests for them. Actually, I have done "Magic Power" and "Fight The Good Fight". Just got to put the video and audio together, and I should have them up by this weekend.

Lars taped coins on his bass drums where the beaters hit.

and that makes such a big difference in sound?

im not hearing a clicking noise in his bass drum in the justice album. I'm hearing a loose/wet sound.
