I have noticed quite a few of the converts to Islam featured on YouTube are former Catholics. What is interesting for me, is the reason they converted to Islam are the same reasons I went from Roman Catholic to a Free Church Protestant. We also reject the need for priests, intermediaries to God, and an idea that the grace of God can be controlled or reified. Perhaps if Dr. OLeary had been born in a culture with other types of Christians her life would have been different.

That is another question, is Islam the restoration of true monotheism or not. That is not my belief. There is a psychological dimension to these conversions. Christianity in the 6th century was full of Priests, intermediaries and a Byzantine maze of beliefs. (PUN FULLY INTENDED) The emotional appeal of Islam was it's simplicity and accessibility to God. It's the same reason the largest Baptist Church outside the US is in Russia. These conversions are based on a similar emotional appeal.

I have noticed quite a few of the converts to Islam featured on YouTube are former Catholics. What is interesting for me, is the reason they converted to Islam are the same reasons I went from Roman Catholic to a Free Church Protestant. We also reject the need for priests, intermediaries to God, and an idea that the grace of God can be controlled or reified. Perhaps if Dr. OLeary had been born in a culture with other types of Christians her life would have been different.
