@bcasey25raptor ya just 4runner said with 2 card readers 1 can be used for readyboost. It's way easier to use then xp and 2gb of ram runs GREAT with vista. 7 is a little over the AA1's capacity. It wasnt even designed for Vista. I have an aspire one d250 and it runs great with vista, even with the original 1gb.
a vlited copy runs flawless on an aspire one AOA150... had to work a little magic with the drivers (since i have vista black), but its about as fast as when it had xp. i would have installed xp instead but i kept getting an 0x0000007b stop error... so i had to bite the bullet and try it out. i think im gonna keep it this way, the computer is more than able to handle my vlited vista, im sure a full blown home premium wouldnt be a problem.
Vista SP2 is a pretty stable system and I really like it over xp because I do get better performance. This computer also has two card slots so you can fill one with an sd card and use it as a readyboost drive which helps.
I would highly suggest you not put vista on an Aspire One. Yes it will work but on a laptop like this you want to leech w/e performance you can for other applications. Vista is only going hurt you here.
your all stupid vista is obviously a heavier os just because its more visualy apealing and yes its going to run slow IF YOU DONT LOOK AT THE MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS. yes ok some times you get lucky but come on
Your a schmuck, Vista is a much heavier OS then XP or any other Windows OS for the matter its heavier then Leopard Tiger Ubuntu any Linux distro its actually the heaviest OS I've ever used my Acer One a150 runs it stupendous I couldn't believe it because of the size and the 8mb video card it has that's why you reject.
Exactly but don't you realize that this tiny netbook comes with XP pre-installed and is made for XP so its an XP computer that is no bigger then half a book running such a heavy OS you jackass that's why people are amazed.
I did actually, I took it back the last day of warranty because Acer moved the return key and \ key around to make it bilingual, which was a stupid move and resulted in me pushing \ every time I wanted to push enter. Was too much of a pain just to have a computer so small.
so untrue, i have one and it works like a dream with xp, ubuntu, and vista. only thing thats bad about it is that it gets too much finger prints on it!
It's easy if you have one of the 160GB models to partition the drive for XP using the Ubuntu Live CD and gparted. You can probably dual boot with either Vista or Ubuntu. Ubuntu comes with a boot loader called Grub which auto installs when ubuntu is installed. If you are able to get Vista installed on another partition, you could install Ubuntu on a third (you need at least 2 for Ubuntu) and you'd have a 3 way install.. I have XP and Ubuntu 8.10 on mine. I get wobbly windows in compiz on Ubuntu.
i pretty much like vista for its looks, and the cool sidebar and the tooblar, nothing else other than that i would prefer XP because if you have XP your PC will run faster because it takes less RAM.If XP had the cool Vista looks then i wouldn't like Vista.XP is a way better deal put only problem is,the looks suck. But overall i would use XP and use the Vista Inspirat 2 thing.and that is what i am doing.
what the point? why pay £££££ for windows when you can pay nothing for linux its awsome if using opensuse 11.1 11 doesnt work with wifi not a lot of tweaking is needed
It's not a 5 second boot it's a 20 second boot, and blue screen of death, as you call it, is not a flaw of windows, it's a flaw in the way manufacturers write drivers for windows...
Vista really comes in two flavors, 32-bit and 64-bit, the 32-bit version is essentially XP.. The 64-bit version is a new OS, they figured if they were going to have to refactor the code for a 64-bit processor they might as well redo it. So if you are installing 32-bit vista, this is a 32-bit processor, you are only installing it for cutesy graphics. If you want to amaze your friends, get Ubuntu 8.10 and set Appearances to "Extra", and play with wobbly windows. I'm going to do a video on it.
Hey I just did the same thing to my Acer but the only think I cant get to work is the webcam.
I have installed so many drivers but they don't work. It wont Recognize the driver. Its driving me nuts!! Im considering installing both XP and Vista on the same harddrive and boot from either or to Use the webcam.
Honeslty thats a little extreme for me. Let me, Please if anything if you were even able to get it to work.
lol i heard the atom was 1/2 the speed of a celeron i did a comparison 1.6ghz socket 478 celeron (my old pc) and 1.6 atom (my aspire 1) the atom beat the celeron by 10 seconds go figure :P
dude, the atom is not a weak processor. this guy though, is dumb because he runs vista on an unsupported ssd drive which makes vista runs like shit. he shud have made an *embedded* install with EWF - sure beats the default linpus and iATKOS/kallyway. vista/win xp runs sweet.
but vista does run a little cooler, as in temperature, than xp.. the fan doesn't go off as often and the whining noise won't be as apparent (if you have the fan control installed)
I hope whoever puts Vista on their Aspire One also decides to watch the memory upgrade how-to video. Vista can have such a crippling effect, especially with inadequate RAM or bad user/admin.

Nice laptop, but to be honest its not that fast by the looks of it.
I would've expect more from SSD...
But ive read Vista cant handle SSD that well, cause the drivers are not optimal and its hard to make them optimal due to the way Windows works.
