My favourite operatic heroine. Carmen is her own feisty self - defiant to the last! SHE doesn't die of love or waste away from some horrible disease. I would LOVE to play her!
and so what she is from romania ? she is great has amazing voice and some people are raicst, limited and very bad educated ....human stupidity has no limits heh
@MMiraJeS actually I woudn't, because I don't judge by name... I judge by face. I didn't even know Gheorghiu is romanian. For all I know her name could've been African cause her dad was from Niger. I don't care. So you are just on of those people who base things wrong. Appearance can be deceiving, but often times it's right.
@alarik95 Oh yes you do judge by name. You can't tell if a person is Romanian or say Hungarian, heck alot of times you can't even tell if a person is Romanian or French! I agree that if you took a thousand french people and a thousand romanian people then you would see a little difference, but claiming you're able to tell exactly which country a specific person is from is just being a racist. People aren't really that different.
@fefaqet2 no sir, you are racist. Since there is only one human race, there is no way to be actually 'racist' and if you use the word "racist", then you are someone who is "racist" in the way other people mean it, in other words, the way people judge others by complexion of skin. And I can't judge her name, I've never seen a name like that before. If you told me I'm racist because I have the ability to guess someone's origin by clothing, eye depth, eye color, cheeks, and hair, then fuck you.
It is interesting that the two Gheorghiu clips on youtube with the highest number of views - Vissi d'arte and Habanera - are pieces outside the range of a lyric soprano, yet Angela keeps getting classified as a lyric soprano. I'd say she proved herself to be lyric-dramatic or spinto, rather than simply lyric.

@LLawliet197 You bet wrong, I think true Romanians are proud of being Romanians and never forget their roots. We might have many bad things about us but we have that charm that makes foreigners who visit our country be fascinated, we have that joy, those traditions, that simplicity that many other countries forgot.

Have a nice day! If you like more challenge me, I'm ready, too!
there's something about opera music that i just love, probably the fact that it requires the singer to actually sing, unlike the crap that we have today
are you guys serious?!??!? this song isn't just from the movie Up you jackasses! its from the original opera Carmen by Georges Bizet. It was made in 1800s you dumbfucks. i learned this in the second grade in music class. The movie Up got it from that you know nothing morons! These guys are singing an ORIGINAL opera piece. Google it retards
This video is the biggest piece of crap. I hate it. They just stole this song from the movie Up and added some crap lyrics. Wow. This lady can't even sing!! What a disgrace to the original song! Worst voice in America, I think my dog can sing better!
@hoho2262 America doesn't have any sopranos. They just start an action of discovering talents in Harlem and end up with rap music which you guys are crazy about. The last one was Grace Bumbry which has been honored by guess who: Angela Gh. at Kennedy Centre. Wait for that kid Jakie Evanko. If they going to help her to send her to anice music school like Julliard then we will have a real soprano to be proud of her
@alexliliryan What are you talking about???? Have you ever been to an opera? No sopranos in the US? What about Renee Fleming, Rachelle Gilmore, Patricia Racette, Angela Meade, and many others. Before there were Leontyne Price, Martina Arroyo, June Anderson, and many many others. Oh, and there are many many more opera singers graduating today than jobs. And by the way, Grace Bumbry is a mezzo soprano - maybe you should learn something about opera before commenting on it?
@jewelmarkess I see that you have an answer for every body, its good to know so much things concerning opera and probably you have some education in this field; I wouldn't dare to challenge you. I just got the DVD La Rondine with Angela Gheorghiu and her husband Roberto Alagna recorded at Met and at the end as a bonus Renee Fleming's taking an interview to both of them. She sings nice and she 's beautiful soprano or mezzo whatever.
@alexliliryan Sure she is - a soprano by the way. I saw this performance of La Rondine, it was broadcast on PBS (public tv) in our area, and I thought it was fantastic and I enjoyed it a lot. You are the one who claimed there are no American sopranos when there were and are many excellent ones, and if you expand your horizons a bit and listen to many different opera singers you might enjoy them too.
@alexliliryan When were you at the Met the last time? Have you bothered to check their schedules? FYI:1. there are many types of soprano and mezzo soprano voice and no single soprano or mezzo - dramatic, spinto, lyric, coloratura can be the only prima donna. 2. The Met produces 20+ different operas every season and multiple performances of the same opera, no single singer even sings in all performances of same opera. Instead of showing your ignorance why don't you just check Met website.
@alexliliryan Just to add: the Met's season is from last week of September to mid-May with 7 performances a week. There are many primadonnas performing there. I am not going to argue who is better or worse as at this high level of singing it's a matter of personal preference, I suggest you listen to more than a couple of singers before you are sure whom you personally prefer. This is a preview of the Met HD broadcasts for next year - only small subset of all performances: /watch?v=eBVFBAT92Vg
@hoho2262 Are you really so ignorant or just pretending? This isn't a song from the movie, it may have been used in a movie - actually it was used in many movies and commercials - but it's an aria from opera Carmen written in the 1800s. Maybe you should take some music appreciation course or something before you parade your ignorance. Oh, and the lyrics here are original too.
Maybe not "better" than Callas, but Gheorghiu is the first opera singer who has ever thrilled me with goose bumps in a same way Callas did. The drama and theatrical depth in her voice is just fabulous.

@alexliliryan uh, Renee Fleming?

@emilygkane My apology, I thought she New Zealander I don't know why!

She sings nice and she 's beautiful soprano or mezzo whatever.
alexliliryan 5 months ago
@alexliliryan Sure she is - a soprano by the way. I saw this performance of La Rondine, it was broadcast on PBS (public tv) in our area, and I thought it was fantastic and I enjoyed it a lot. You are the one who claimed there are no American sopranos when there were and are many excellent ones, and if you expand your horizons a bit and listen to many different opera singers you might enjoy them too.

@jewelmarkess Where they sing in Tel Aviv, Israel? At Met is Anna Netrebko prima donna! That's it!
alexliliryan 5 months ago
@alexliliryan When were you at the Met the last time? Have you bothered to check their schedules? FYI:1. there are many types of soprano and mezzo soprano voice and no single soprano or mezzo - dramatic, spinto, lyric, coloratura can be the only prima donna. 2. The Met produces 20+ different operas every season and multiple performances of the same opera, no single singer even sings in all performances of same opera. Instead of showing your ignorance why don't you just check Met website.
jewelmarkess 5 months ago
@alexliliryan Just to add: the Met's season is from last week of September to mid-May with 7 performances a week. There are many primadonnas performing there. I am not going to argue who is better or worse as at this high level of singing it's a matter of personal preference, I suggest you listen to more than a couple of singers before you are sure whom you personally prefer. This is a preview of the Met HD broadcasts for next year - only small subset of all performances: /watch?v=eBVFBAT92Vg

@hoho2262 There's something wrong with you. literally

Listen to her «Vissi d'arte» from «Tosca» and if she does not make you cry out, get help :) Only Callas ever moved me like that in that aria.

Maybe not "better" than Callas, but Gheorghiu is the first opera singer who has ever thrilled me with goose bumps in a same way Callas did. The drama and theatrical depth in her voice is just fabulous.
