Looks like your paint was too thick and not watery enough. It is thin washes that are applied. The reflection that gives you the metal effect is very thin layers until you get the desired effect.A good tip is to always practice on a scrap piece or bristle board. hey good luck.
You alway have to do it more the just one time befor you get it right. Just keep try til you get what your looking for . I did my 2004 R1 and it came out nice.
i agree with everyone else unmask it and check it out.. keep ur masking so u can lay it back down.. and u can always tape it if the masking rips.. airbrushing is a trial and error thing learn as u go man. i aint no pro at it by any means i can shadow stuff but as for an artistic ability HELL NO... if u knew how many test panels ive thrown away after bein pissed they didnt turn out rite u would laugh. all i had to to was sand it or wipe it off and re use it but nope im stubborn... good luck
@yukonrott I did. ANd it did look pretty good. Looks like torn plastic. Not exactly what I was after, but I'll take it. It'll probably pop when I clear it.
@MrArty247 Yeah...I think practice on a bigger piece of material would have helped. Fortunately this is a inexpensive helmet that belongs to me, so I can experiment.

I did the same thing, it looked like crap until I took the masking off. Take the masking off and you will see that it looks good

look at some ripped metal pics to get an idea of the shading as this is where you have gone wrong

I need to see better pictures of what the rips look like. I can't tell in the video what it looks like.
