Ciao a tutti appassionati audiofili.
A proposito, sicuramente la conoscerai...in caso contrario ascolta I'm a Fool to Want You,della straordinaria Billie Holiday.
totally agree with k. im a sun reader and a dj and pretty much have a vast knowledge of music. and know that the sun readers i talk to know and like aretha, earth wind fire, all the way back to sarah vaughn and lenny williams. x
H-E-Y!!!!!---I'm a "Sun" reader--bet I know more than you will ever realise about ALL music-----!!!!!---and I'm no snob in ANY way in ANY walk of life--
We all exist together in all walks of life on this Planet of ours---be tolerant and not so narrow-minded--
There are those who have attained the highest echelons of Society and are found to be less than wanting in both past and present!!!
Behave!!-we are ALL simply human beings walking this Earth in the end--SUN or TIMES regardless!
Well said, an education gives you facts, knowledge and joy of a subject comes from the heart. Your taste in newspapers may be a little questionable, but your sentiment is correct,in my humble opinion, peace and love bro:D from a fellow pleb with knowledge!!
Sheer class - there are no current female singers that could grace a stage with her. Her vocal quality is far too strong for the singers nowadays who use studios and auto tuners to make joe public believe they have talent. Dinah doesnt fool she is the real deal.
In the UK a poll by a popular paper listed the "100 greatest female singers" as voted by the public. Geri Halliwell was listed Dinah was not, WHAT THE BOLLOCKS? Geri should not have been listed Dinah should have been number 1. PROOF CONCLUSIVE THAT THE PUBLIC IS WRONG AND STUPID.
It's pretty disgusting but to be fair, you an't expect your average Sun or Mirror reader to know much about music outside the current regurgitated pop pap.
I'm sure if the poll was done in The Times or Guardian, you would see no sign of Halliwel and Dina and Aretha et al would be right up there.
Dinah Washington was the ultimate Diva and oh, that voice...she could sing anything and turns this great Noel Coward ballad inside out and nobody can touch this brilliant performance...Bravo Dinah!!!
Dinah Washington was the ultimate singer & performer. She was adored and admired. Her star went dim far too soon. I can recognise her voice regardless of the song. Yes, her voice still leaves me spellbound and breathless. Diva, icon, Dinah Washington is a classic.
However, it should be noted that when she died at Christmastime, 1963, she was only 39 years old, but married to her seventh husband...football legend Dick "Night Train" Laine!
She was the greatest blues singer in the world. I'm sure she would have been a much bigger star (more broad-based stardom including many more television guest spots and engagements at more major night clubs) had she just fit the more sexy imagage required of (especially) black singers of the day. I believe continual, excessive use of diet pills, mixed with a huge intake of booze and the obligatory sleeping pills, is probably what killed her.
This piece is incredibly well put together.

A little history- This song was written by Noel Coward for his lover. He was gay. He wrote both music and lyric.

She seemed to have run the gamut from pleasingly plump, to fat, to skinny and everything in between. I am reminded of Luther Vandross.

I'll take Howlin' Wolf over her for blues singing, but greatest pop singer in the world sounds about right.

She died in December 1963 from an lethal overdose of drugs (diet pills) and alchohol. Her death was ruled an accident.
