Wild ARMs XF - Battle Gameplay

So I'm new to this series, but this title looks promising. I've been getting tired of Tactics Ogre and need something to fill the void.

If I like this, I might wanna try out the other titles in the Wild Arms series. Are any of the games on PS2 or 360? Hell, even the wii if they got it.

I can kind of understand what they want to do with this series, and it's actually quite original. They're trying to portray the continuity of Filgaia from the distant past to the far future, which is why the game has been undergoing a genre shift for the past 3 games now. Plus they want to compete with franchises like Final Fantasy, who cover multiple genres and platforms. Problem is that they're moving way too fast and ruining what made the original 3 games so great.

This game is ... meh. Jeanne D'arc is... ok. Disgaea is . .a mad man grind fest.. more than "strategy" they should just call it a GRPG = Grind-RPG. FFT:War of the Lions.. is a "Strategy"RPG, you seriously do have to "strategize". I'd say FFT:WOTL, probably the best of the choices. Then maybe DisgaeaAoD.

@HumanGamer FFT as much as I love it, doesn't really take strategy. All it takes is one unique character all of whom are over powered to win. If you want a perfectly balanced SRPG try Tactics Ogre either the one on PSX/PSP/SNES or the GBA one.

@TGArthur this game sucks realy I am a big fan of the series but the hax system in this game and 4 just sucked especaliy in this game I quited this game after I lost the 2nd battle 8 times in a row a little hard ok but this is rediculess you are stil learning in the 2nd battle and then you already have to win such an tough battle and you cant even level up in this game al this game is about is doing an battle then another but not an single battle where you can train an little

I actually like the hex system in 4 and 5. It adds variety to traditional turn-based and it's very fast paced.

1 had the best story. 2 had the best dungeon system. 4 had the best variety. 5 had the best comedy- I'M FREAKING HUNGRY!

Wild Arms 3 is the worst next to the remake of 1 because it was an abomination to make the remake of one a reskin of 3. Only thing I liked about 3 was the gardening system.

I'll try this out, but it looks very boring. XD;

@tinymon I also think the hex system was good--better in 5 than 4, because you got the obstacles obscuring the shape of the field in some battles.

But I have to dispute your allegations of 3 being the worst (next to ACF, which shouldn't even count, no?). It had a pretty solid story, better than 4 (maybe 2) comparible to 5. I must also contend that it's dungeon system was 2nd best, next to 2.

Just curious, what's your overall ranking on best to worst on 1-5?

then to join in this really interesting topic i will give an argue but sadly i can´t write all i want (500 letters are not enough!) so in short i say this WA 1 is the start and Rudy´s emotionally gripping story is good but the same can be said for the main char in WA 2 ( forgot his name) who almost lost to a "darkness" within him. the main char in the third one is maybe not the most original char, but hey! (out of letters!) virginia is a great change of pace from the other main chars.

I've always been interested in this game. After following the series for so long I was a little skeptical when I found out this entry was going to be a Strategy RPG. But after seeing how they implemented the Hex battle system into the game and expanded it to play like an SRPG all of my worry's have gone away. I also like how you get into random battles as you travel across Filgaia.

I actually thought this game was very good, and I have played the series since the first one.

It's a little hard at first when you there are battle restrictions but that just adds to the strategy factor. I liked the music and the look of the generic units(Sacred Slayer). Weisheit was cool and had awesome battle music and game had a good story going for more than half the game, which says alot more than half the games ever released.

Personally I like Wild Arms XF over FFT since loading times are better, and you have to use tactics. It's not just "Get Cid and you can beat everything" type of thing in this game.
