Penn is saying it is unknown how everything has come about and Piers Morgan is saying a God brought it about and there is a heaven because he believes that is what the god will do for people. Penn and other non-theists think is is comical to hypothesise back to that. I think in philosophy that is known as 'affirming the consequent'.

Stronger atheistic point to admit that you're terrified. If you're scared to die but still believe there's no afterlife: that's philosophically brave.

That and history teaches us that in earlier civilizations, when people would see things that occurred in nature, like rain, sunrises, or earthquakes, they would say God did it as an explanation. piers makes a good point at the end - atheism affirms knowledge that there is no God, or creator - while at the same time admitting they cannot know, it is a bit of a contradictory belief system.
Whereas in reality we have a universe full of exquisite design, order, functionality in lives systems, principles, beauty, awareness - which clearly implies an imputed and creator far beyond the level of human intelligence and stands against notion of a random cosmic unconscious accident, in my view.

Penn doesn't really achieve much with the '1890' quip - we're not scared of 1890 because we weren't alive prior to 1890. We're afraid of 2090 because we will have ceased to be. They're different things. Death is scary not JUST because we won't exist, but because we did once exist and soon we won't.
Stronger atheistic point to admit that you're terrified. If you're scared to die but still believe there's no afterlife: that's philosophically brave.

I think the point is that Piers admits his fear of death is alleviated because he chooses to believe in a magical shangi-lah. I don't know what happens next, but hopefully Penn points out that desperately wanting something to be real has no affect, whatsoever, on whether that idea is realized.

That and history teaches us that in earlier civilizations, when people would see things that occurred in nature, like rain, sunrises, or earthquakes, they would say God did it as an explanation. piers makes a good point at the end - atheism affirms knowledge that there is no God, or creator - while at the same time admitting they cannot know, it is a bit of a contradictory belief system.
Whereas in reality we have a universe full of exquisite design, order, functionality in lives systems, principles, beauty, awareness - which clearly implies an imputed and creator far beyond the level of human intelligence and stands against notion of a random cosmic unconscious accident, in my view.
