This was good, your school's Ariel has a great voice. And I actually liked the whole "The Supremes" feel of the song. The only things I could point out are:

1) the sound problem, obviously. Can't exactly be helped tho.

2) The whole stage in general seems kinda.... empty. That stage has a lot of room, which could have been well-utilized.

my lordy, urleen, rusty, and Wendy Jo were incredibly aweful.

NO ONE was singing the alto part, and you could tell it was wendy jo's character that was singing the soprano note off.

which highly dissapoints me considering in two weeks i'll be on stage performing as wendy jo haha

and the choreography was bland.

i agree that the backup trio was not in tune and they didn't quite capture the character of the song. also, there was way too much empty space, especially between Chuck's lines. And there was too much pushing around between Ren and Willard. But Betty Blast was awesome. Ariel needs to get some acting lessons...

wow, work on the backup. and ariel needs to work on not enunciating so much and not sounding like a choir nerd, but she has a good voice. i was ariel in this when we did it a couple of months ago. it was lots of fun, but we worked a lot on the singing and acting instead of props and costumes, cuz if your singing and acting sux, then it just ruins it. and after the song, the acting seems so scripted.

Considering this is just a high school production, it's not really that bad. It's hard to find decent singing beyond the leads at this level, and I do like Ariel's voice. A little more explosiveness would be nice, but again -- it's high school. I agree that the 3 girls need to learn to sing within the style of the music because the choir formalities sound really wonky, but really this looks like an enjoyable high school production.

The performance ('I need a Hero' portion) was lacking some energy ... the girls backing up needed a lot more power in their vocals, and Ariel just wasn't a strong enough singer for me.

It wasn't too bad though.

the girl playing ariel in this is awesome, shes got great tone. im urleen in my schools production and we just finished the dance moves for this song. in my opinion our moves are better coz we dont run out of breath, but these ones are still quite good. although the 3 girls needed to make the "ahh"s more rock-style instead of soprano-style. know what i mean?

ahh... tempo drags toward the end of the song. It's a high-energy song, but it just feels like it's losing steam before it ends.

Although, I must admit, that's better than I can say of my high school. Our production of Footloose was excellent, but we used all recorded music. So kudos for live (at least, it sounds live to me).

Some of the harmony bothered me a bit, but I'm going to attribute that to the sound problems you had rather than to any deficiency in talent.

it is such a piy that the video jumps a bit, i have to say normally in the broadway and west end versions it is the girl playing rusty is a far better singer than the girl playing ariel, but in this video its changed, the girl playing ariel is absolutely fantastic, wonderful voice, but i do feel that the three other vocalists are not as good, they seem to be trying to sing differently than the normal show, and they go off-key too many times

Yeah, I don't think anybody expected Betty to be Asian, but Megan (who plays Betty) made it her own character which our director always encourages to do. But honestly, I can't picture Betty as anything but Asian now that it's been done like this. I didn't realize it fit so perfectly!

Oh and the whole Asian thing is kind of an inside joke in our theatre program.
