Leonard, and Johnette are interpreting this song from two totally different perspectives. Cohen more as a bemused spectator slash social commentator, with a laughing almost satirical bent on the subject. Johnette is the jilted lover, living inside Cohen's commentary, .completely consumed by the emotions and angst of the moment. Both performances are riveting, awesome works, but to call Concrete Blonde's version a "cover" does it a disservice!!

CAN'T get over this performance!!!!!! I've watched this countless times over the years and remember the recording of this tune by Concrete Blonde in the 80's. You watch stuff like American Idol and foolishness like the over-produced stuff of a Britney Spears, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and wonder how that can even be classified as "interpretation" or "performance" after seeing Johnette absolutely blow the roof off of the sucker with this one.

i've heard a few versions of this leonard cohen song, and this is by far the very best. i can't help but feel that old leonard is one of the few songwriters who can write a song that is like a shell, and then the right artist comes along who can just pour an infinite amount of emotion into it, and make it real. Johnette makes it real. she makes every song real!

Got to meet her and she was everything I expected and then some. Concrete Blonde toured Oz a few times and I believe Jonette did a solo tour here last year as well.
