  • EarthBound is such a perfect game. It leaves so much mystery, and leaves the player curious, and mesmerized. I always wanted to know more about Giygas, about the Cave of the Past, Magicant, the townsfolk, how Moonside is carrying on, many other things, such as where Ness' dad is. It is such a dark game, and so frightening. It is monumentally symbolic, and I adore the extreme good v. evil in it - Ness having to fight his own bad side, and feeling guilt when destroying Giygas. Unforgettable game.

  • It seems that both parts have multiple names.

    ???/Cave of the Past

The Cliff that Time Forgot/ The Place

First Step Back/ Second Step Back

    Any others?

  • those robots are teh creepy.

  • Cave of past totally fits... FEAR !

  • ..brrr

  • I like how both "The Cliff That Time Forgot" and "The Cave Of The Past" samples intros of two other songs

    The Cliff That Time Forgot:

The Beatles - All You Need Is Love

    The Cave Of The Past:

    The Beach Boys - Deirdre

    I think that's awesome!

  • Picture this...

Standing in a tall mountain looking over the horizon, nothing but clouds and other mountain tops

  • the beatles style

  • You engadged Starman DX and its Chorets.

    Ness:...Fuck

  • This music (after the intro) reminds me of the Submerged Castle music from

    Pikmin 2.

  • @clonetrooper250

Ya, but it has notes from Giygas' intro. >.<

  • earthbound has the best soundtrack among all Nintendo games (just my opinion)

  • This song, to me, sounds like something that would play on top of a big hill. It just has a sense of wonder and adventure. That's just me, though.

  • this game is creepy as FUCK after the first half

  • You see how these people take optimistic brass notes and make it... VERY unsettling?

  • The beginning feels like it has a sad theme to it... Kinda like how you've accomplished many achievements, but at the end, there's no one around, just emptiness. =/

  • Yeah I searched and found it, the Marseillaise, right? I don't think I've heard it before, though. Just hearing it seems evident it had to be from an anthem, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

  • So mysterious, being at that ledge for the fist time, knowing it must be important but you dont know why.

  • Man it's effing awesome listening to the first eight seconds of that song along to this! <3

  • ALL YOU NEED IS LOOOVE

  • all you need is gyigas

  • Totally "All You Need is Love."

  • oH NOES DAMN HEADPHONES! AAAAAAA!

  • thank you!!

  • yup, feels like the edge of the universe

  • There is so much to this place that isn't figured out; I know it!

  • Plus both the Beatles and Earthbound have made a bloody demented song. (Revolution Nine and almost every Earthbound song)

  • @Thomasbki Yup I like That Song it's SO CREEPING AWSOME!!!

  • The song is so... sad, actually...

  • i don't know why, but this is really creepy. expecially when your playing the game and you go to this place o.o

  • I know right! I came here once when I got lost in the Land of the Past... or whatever you wanna call it... and it freaked me out. Plus the cave of the past was just cruel

  • Ah, geekiness.

I totally recognized the horns at the beginning from "All You Need is Love"

    Awesome song- both of them.

  • the beatles and earthbound had a connection.

can you guess what it is?

  • I dunno about a direct one, but I do know there are quite a few references to the Beatles in EarthBound. The Yellow Submarine in Brick Road is a major one, as is the Yesterday joke.

(Can you guess the title of this song? ___terday)

I think that is all the major ones.

  • I left the answer in my Yellow Submarine.

  • @tommyycore Heavy drug abuse?

  • dude me too :D

  • @grrr9 Acctullay, The Beatles decided to put in the french anthem because it fit with their song.

  • @grrr9 Where?

  • DAMN THAT'S A COOL PICTURE! O_O

Look at that mirroring effect, and the shadows!

    Oh, the music?

Yeah... The first one I made a loop of. I use it for meditation. And the second one is calming to me too.

    ....

    Is that really weird?

  • Calming!!???

    What are you, Buddha?

This is... Freakening? Traumatizing? You gotta have some nerves of steel... x_x!

Agree with the picture though, awesomery full...

  • I had a feeling that wasn't normal. >#>

Of course... I'm not exactly what you'd call normal.

There's something about this picture other than the starmen that seems to make me almost remember something...

I feel like the vibe I'm getting from it is incredibly important.

    Hmm...

  • I feel this too, theres something right about this...

  • no it actally calms me too

  • i know what you mean...

im the person in my family that isnt that normal...

and i have this song on my mp3...

isnt that weird for *normal* people?

  • Traumatizing?

This is like, ... *music gets weird*

Well, it's a little odd, but I wouldn't say it was either calming or traumatizing.

  • makes me feel like im at the abyss

  • The intro is very unsettling.

The trumpets sound very triumphet and make it feel like you've come a long way and you're on top of the world, but the fact that it has no other instruments accompanying it, and it goes silent for about a second, and keeps repeating over and over, makes it feel like you have no clue what's ahead and what will happen.

    it's...unsettling....

  • @Airking4321 yeah i know what you mean its just so haunting and weird and gives the feeling of the end of time or something

  • @Airking4321

Doesn't help that the Trumpets are so out of sync.

  • @Airking4321 That's one of the things I loved about the music in this game. It really sets a mood, and it's one I've never felt in any game ever before.

  • @Airking4321 I know exactly what you mean. When I first got to this point in the game way back when, I heard the fanfare and thought I had just beaten the game... then the trumpets cut out and started up again and I thought "What the fuck is this?"

  • @Airking4321 Thank you, you have put into words exactly what I feel when I hear this music. I've tried to put it into words for so long, but couldn't. Amazing.

  • This Is -What- Space Would Sound Like If It Had Music that Just Played Forever [-my bad, typo] (which it more than likely does but probably not just on 1 level of existance - Define "Music" - Its Subjective, It Is Definable To a Point.)

either way, im talking about the first song, not the second 1.

  • absolutely love what you said there. about space. just image in space. some distant planet, a lone cliff no living being has ever been to. thats what i imagine

  • I read somewhere that the song from The Cave of the Past with the horns, (I think it's Cave of the Past present) is taken from the Beatle's Song All you Need is Love. I love that song. It's creepy. You're right, it would be what space would sound like, dark, gloomy, and just plain scary.

  • Well yes and no. "All You Need is Love" starts out with a bit of the french anthem "La Marseillaise". This is the first three notes of that, then repeated, shifted, and echoed.

However Earthbound has a lot of classic rock references, so it's perhaps more likely a Beatles reference than a France reference XD

  • i hate that breathing noise it makes. its so eerie. than again things like this make me miss earthbound. mother 3 was a masterpiece and all, but it just doesnt give you the same gaming experience as earthbound did. *sigh*, i miss the series so much...

  • This makes me feel like....Giygas & The Starmen are right there...however, they could only be seen in the past....creepy..

  • Good to know I'm not the one who thinks this sounds incredibly eerie!

Still, it is easily one of my favorite tracks from the game...

This and the Shadowgate OST are both creepy as hell!

  • shadowgate's OST was just... nothing short of awesome. very D&D-ish in its own right.

  • in the very beginning, its just horns being played but for some reason its so creepy. especially at night, it gets stuck in your head, and your imagination goes wild. then after that... you gotta wonder how they thought up the music in this game.

  • love game love music luuuuuv the creepyness

  • The first one, i found it like ''You're going to fight the evil itself, but there's no turn back...'' I give me a fuzzy feeling.

  • I love this one, especially the intro...so unbelievably eerie and indescribable.

  • This Is Space Would Sound Like (if It Had Music that Just Played Forever)

  • Creepy, but short.

  • scary shit....
