EarthBound is such a perfect game. It leaves so much mystery, and leaves the player curious, and mesmerized. I always wanted to know more about Giygas, about the Cave of the Past, Magicant, the townsfolk, how Moonside is carrying on, many other things, such as where Ness' dad is. It is such a dark game, and so frightening. It is monumentally symbolic, and I adore the extreme good v. evil in it - Ness having to fight his own bad side, and feeling guilt when destroying Giygas. Unforgettable game.
The beginning feels like it has a sad theme to it... Kinda like how you've accomplished many achievements, but at the end, there's no one around, just emptiness. =/
Yeah I searched and found it, the Marseillaise, right? I don't think I've heard it before, though. Just hearing it seems evident it had to be from an anthem, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
I know right! I came here once when I got lost in the Land of the Past... or whatever you wanna call it... and it freaked me out. Plus the cave of the past was just cruel
I dunno about a direct one, but I do know there are quite a few references to the Beatles in EarthBound. The Yellow Submarine in Brick Road is a major one, as is the Yesterday joke.
The trumpets sound very triumphet and make it feel like you've come a long way and you're on top of the world, but the fact that it has no other instruments accompanying it, and it goes silent for about a second, and keeps repeating over and over, makes it feel like you have no clue what's ahead and what will happen.
@Airking4321 That's one of the things I loved about the music in this game. It really sets a mood, and it's one I've never felt in any game ever before.
@Airking4321 I know exactly what you mean. When I first got to this point in the game way back when, I heard the fanfare and thought I had just beaten the game... then the trumpets cut out and started up again and I thought "What the fuck is this?"
@Airking4321 Thank you, you have put into words exactly what I feel when I hear this music. I've tried to put it into words for so long, but couldn't. Amazing.
This Is -What- Space Would Sound Like If It Had Music that Just Played Forever [-my bad, typo] (which it more than likely does but probably not just on 1 level of existance - Define "Music" - Its Subjective, It Is Definable To a Point.)
either way, im talking about the first song, not the second 1.
absolutely love what you said there. about space. just image in space. some distant planet, a lone cliff no living being has ever been to. thats what i imagine
I read somewhere that the song from The Cave of the Past with the horns, (I think it's Cave of the Past present) is taken from the Beatle's Song All you Need is Love. I love that song. It's creepy. You're right, it would be what space would sound like, dark, gloomy, and just plain scary.
Well yes and no. "All You Need is Love" starts out with a bit of the french anthem "La Marseillaise". This is the first three notes of that, then repeated, shifted, and echoed.
However Earthbound has a lot of classic rock references, so it's perhaps more likely a Beatles reference than a France reference XD
i hate that breathing noise it makes. its so eerie. than again things like this make me miss earthbound. mother 3 was a masterpiece and all, but it just doesnt give you the same gaming experience as earthbound did. *sigh*, i miss the series so much...
in the very beginning, its just horns being played but for some reason its so creepy. especially at night, it gets stuck in your head, and your imagination goes wild. then after that... you gotta wonder how they thought up the music in this game.

I like how both "The Cliff That Time Forgot" and "The Cave Of The Past" samples intros of two other songs
The Cliff That Time Forgot:
The Beatles - All You Need Is Love
The Cave Of The Past:
The Beach Boys - Deirdre
I think that's awesome!

Look at that mirroring effect, and the shadows!
Oh, the music?
Yeah... The first one I made a loop of. I use it for meditation. And the second one is calming to me too.

Is that really weird?

Of course... I'm not exactly what you'd call normal.
There's something about this picture other than the starmen that seems to make me almost remember something...
I feel like the vibe I'm getting from it is incredibly important.
