What a voice! Of course, not just voice but hard work, and most of all, his artistic sensibility. Krauss is marvelous, too. She paved the velvet grass on which Robert's voice can roll.
pls...do some research b4 u make assumptions. nothing about this hand gesture is related to satan...it's a gesture used in antiquity by pagans to ward off evil. pagans don't believe in satan lmao
Great to see a legend still developing artistically at 64 and not resting on his Led Zepp laurels . He has moved on and this shows us that as long as we have an open , inquisitive mind and if we wish we never stop learning and changing in a positive way.
Hate to hear from those who think RP downgraded into this type of music. To hear from his won lips, watch interviews here on FB where he admits to being faccinated by traditional american music and the Nashville scene in general. Also, for those that don't know, Alison Krause is one of the most decorated musicians in music history (26 Grammy's!).
i love this song!!...an what many people dont get, is, Jimmy Page wrote this song....but Plant made it his own....I think its awesome......Plant went with a money maker like Krause...Jimmy Page went with Puff Daddy!!! WTF???....Think Jimmy needed the money???.....think again!!!
Once more, T-Bone Burnett has shown us he's a genius. Robert Plant - can't say much more!!! I can only brag that I had 2nd row seats in 1977 at the Coliseum in Houston, TX! It was a very good night!!!
Even many Zep fans don't realize Plant's musical roots go back to the early American rock, R&B, and gospel music of the 50's, so playing this stuff is not the musical leap some may think. I'm really glad he did this with Alison (LOVE HER!). Great record done with a sensitive, crackerjack band and amazing producer, T-Bone Burnett (I have his solo records from the 80's btw, all superb).
I never thought he would go bluegrass/country, but am so glad he has! What will "band of Joy" Bring? I began listening to you when I was 12 . Fifty years later
your still the most soulfull , and heart felt voice,.a babe! Thanks Robert for hanging in there after losing Bonzo & your son. Even thru those videos in the 80's . Keep on touching me with your spirit & deep love for music. You young kids with your crap bands, & rap..They suck! Lip sincking! duh Every Zep fan understands what I mean.
I love this song. And they sound amazing together. I would never have thought to pair these two together, but their voices mesh perfectly. Great performance.
being rasied as a child by a Zepplin fan was the best! its great hes still making music so i can raise my children with him also. :) ROBERT PLANT = Legend
man that's Buddy Miller on the guitar in the back line...one of the living immortals. the whole "quiet american" vibe of music is his genesis - do your research. he and Bill Frisell (and Jay Farrar) are the 3 Horsemen.
Wow... I heard this and knew it was Plant and Krause... But something about the song itself reminds me of classic country songs... George Strait, Glenn Campbell... or maybe even southern fried RnB like Solomon Burke... with a graceful touch of that insistent Celtic stomp.... brilliant!
I cannot believe when i was growing up in the seventies i liked led zeppelin but kinda did not like the screaming vocals of plant (Later in life i have come to love Led Zeppelin). and to hear his voice in this song i cannot believe it is the same powerful voice. Still powerful but now its angelic. This is one of my alltime fav ballads.
could he BE any hotter, more in tune, or more authentic? thank you, robert plant, for making me excited about getting old. and thanks alison for any teeensy part you may have played in waking up his kundalini energy :-)
As fantastic as Jimmy is, the fact of the matter is that it was the most unique and adhesive rythym section in history and Robert's thoughtful lyrics that propelled Pagey to his current status. However, that ought to speak volumes for Jimmy's genius in knowing who to work with.
Oh, man. This is not Zep, T-Bone, Krauss or anything else - it's become a unique thing. Leave nostalgia in the past and appreciate this for what it is - awesome music that will not likely come again!
and when you can present the English translation of "lol...but still they dnt left the habit os saying babe in every song as in pld Zep days...". Do tell. In the meantime, it's about this Alison Krauss and Robert Plant tune, try to keep up, it's 2011 now.
WOW! I Recommended by a much valued friend to listen to this beautiful song. I am so happy that he suggested it, what a gorgeous song sung by wonderful voices....Thank you Simon.
Diversity, that's Robert Plant, just listen to how many blues, rock ballads even country songs he's done. What a better choice then Alison Krauss, she's awesome times ten. I think it's a great duet although it does seem an unlikely match. They are fantastic together.
I remember when I first heard the amazing Alison Krauss was doing an album with Robert Plant, I thought it was the most odd pairing I had ever heard of. Not being a Led Zeppelin fan and a total Alison fan, "what was she thinking?".
Then they swept the grammy's so I listened, and then listened again and now this song is a must listen to! Odd pairing but wow, the results are - WOW!

I think it's just more of an evolving for him. People all know Zep was great. I think it's refreshing that he's moving on a little, rather than resting on his laurels, content to stay with what got him there.
How simple do you require? Exactly. A rock legend, and a bluegrass fiddler girl meet up....and create some new music. It's called music....the classical, the legendary, the whatever matters to you will always be there. It's music, it does not go away. Ever. Robert Plant and Alison Krauss....eeek. no menation of you. @SoftlyInTheRain I think Led Zeppelin was always grounded in traditional music. True, traditional blues, but there's a really strong link between what they did and what traditional music's always been about. Also love folk, "back porch" music. What are you, 12? G'head. Ask "young" Alison Krauss. Popped up around 1989. When did you first hear of her? When did you first hear of Robert Plant? When did she? Really, girl, you want to ask of my understanding? Just ask.
Really? Give it up. Hard rock, ugly....and a young bluegrass fiddler. Yeah, in spite of what you think you know, the old geezer and the awesome fiddler, singer, songwriter, grammy-winner chick....managed to get along well, and sing wonderful songs. Guess what....no mention of you. Surprise.

He's doing exactly that. At the awards show he told the crowed this song was written by Plant/Page during "The New Yardbirds" AKA Zeppelin era. If Plant would get his head out of his ass and stop thinking he was in a Zeppelin cover band, they could make a great new record not saying this wasn't. I'm happy it won but his reasoning not to play with Zep in my opinion is weak.
thank you for your book titled "Can't get over anything, always miss the point."
Look stuff up, look at what Plant has said about this music. It's out there. We know who the songwriters are. Yawn. All referencences to anything are moot. It is what it is. Next?
Ah! Ah! Ah..! This song was on "Walking into Clarksdale", an album made by Page & Plant in '98, which sold around 100.000 copies.. I quite like that album..
Plant and Page wrote it. Krause and Plant are such an unlikely pairing, but they sound wonderful together. She is amazing. Thanks also to T Bone Walker for this one.
boy the engineer planted a turd on this stage. 2 of the most acclaimed vocalists in the last half century and all you can hear is the bass and the drums
When I first heard this on the radio I thought it was Chris Issak!

Sigh, this song was written POST Zeppelin, not in Zeppelin, get your fact right first.

thank you for your book titled "Can't get over anything, always miss the point."

This award should be for "best recycled song"..

its probably more along the lines of honoring plant then for actual popularity of the song.
honestly none of the rap/ hiphip /gangstershit artists deserve a grammy. and to say they do in some manner is ridiculous.

Plant and Page wrote it. Krause and Plant are such an unlikely pairing, but they sound wonderful together. She is amazing. Thanks also to T Bone Walker for this one.

I agree w/everything you said. It's T-Bone Burnett, however. :)

The tune is nice but the words are a little lackluster. Not very catchy -- kind of monotonous. I love Alison Krauss, though.

I heard this song for the first time yesterday at a strip mall. I was surprised to learn who made this song. very catchy.

boy the engineer planted a turd on this stage. 2 of the most acclaimed vocalists in the last half century and all you can hear is the bass and the drums

I think they do very well together. I particularly find it interesting how Robert Plant is doing something totally different.
He's into it enough that Zep has set aside plans of a reunion. That speaks volumes.
